Edward was just comitting identity fraud because he was hoping to swindle some people out of their money as a get-rich-quick plan... then got irritated because he was impatient and wanted more money which led to him getting found out and given the boot.

No he couldn't have. Ah tabai was master Assassin, he could soundly defeat Edward at that point. Edward lost to that armoured Templar guy in the beginning.

@@SD-ff3uy What armoured templar guy? If you're talking about El Tiburion, Edward killed him when they fought and they didn't even fight in the beginning. Not to mention Edward was a master assassin himself and was already a legendary swordsman before joining the assassins. Ah-Tabai was pretty old and past his prime when he met Edward so he wouldn't have lasted a second in a straight up fight. Maybe a prime Ah-Tabai would've given Edward a run for his money but definitely not during the AC 4 story and timeline. Oh and btw, Ah-Tabai got defeated by a Spanish captain during that war where Edward helped the assassins fight off the Spanish army. Edward kills spanish captains in 2 seconds easy.

The fight was skipped due to gameplay limitations but it did happen in the novel. El tibiron was pretty much toying with Edward the entire time, and that humiliating loss was a big hit to Kenway's ego. Ah tabai was a master Assassin training since childhood just like Altair while Edward is just a pirate who used to be a street fighter in Bristol, there is no competition between them, Ah tabai will wipe the floor with him. It's only after the events of Black Flag that Edward becomes strong enough to beat El Tiburon and even surpasses Ah Tabai.

People don't understand what this whole game is about. Edward becomes a Pirate because it's the way he can get what he sees as his worth: money. All so he can provide for his wife at home. He learns that his true worth comes from what he's seen the past years he sailed the indies. The tyranny. The Cruelty. The Freedom and the kindness.

+Xanathos Yeah, Roberts said that the vials were too old to be of any use but "maybe in some future epoch", they would be. Having a scientific background, I took "epoch" to mean hundreds of thousands of years but maybe he actually meant our present day. Then again, they had to get John Standish's body before they had enough Precursor genes to do what they're doing now.

I love how Ah Tabai was going to confiscate Edward's robes and blades, perhaps even destroy them since their actual owner was a traitor but upon hearing Edward's grief and sorrow towards Mary, Ah Tabai changes his mind and gifts them to Edward.
