Brotherhood looks more detailed but in 2 it actually looks like Rome, like it’s scale is so much greater. 0:55 like come on. Maybe if Brotherhood had an extra year of development, they could’ve done it better than 2 but Ubisoft originally wanted Brotherhood in AC2 anyway. If a remake of this game were to ever exist and be developed, they should definitely add Brotherhood into AC 2

They wanted Rome in AC2, but when they realized they couldn't make it in time, they decided to make a sequel set entirely in Rome.

More likely what you see in AC2 is all they had the time and resources to build, earlier it was likely intended to be an outright open world for the finale but they had to scale that ambition down into a single linear mission.

Been a while since I was in Rome IRL but pretty sure the Colosseum isn't that close to the castle like it was in AC2

AC2's is a 'slice' of Rome. It was thrown together for a single mission. It's also way further away than it is in Brotherhood. Even AC's full worlds are on a pretty tiny scale.

Part of why Rome changed so much between games is that the developers purposely recreated an older period (it’s “baroque” era, if I remember right) because they felt the accurate Renaissance era looked too much like contemporary Rome and they wanted to make it stand out more or something.

They didn't really 'change' anything here. In AC2 the world of rome was something they threw together for a single linear stealth mission, all of the 'famous landmarks' are condensed to 'give the feeling of Rome' without them having to fully build a traversable world. AC Brotherhood is a fully realized Assassin's creed iteration of medieval Rome. Like all AC games it has it's serious flaws in authenticity but it's definitely the better iteration of the two bar some bizarre and weird errors like the messed up gigantic crenelations in the battlements and oversized merlons.

I mean.. there is literaly NO time pass inbetween AC2 and Brotherhood Lol But I think that has something to do with the Animus. in AC 2 ezio cant remember details of rome no wonder its not visual perfect that comes straight with brotherhood ( but the door is missing in the vatican thats just weird :D)

Idk why Castle looks better and the pathways are cooler in AC2 but there is like nth to explore in that area. I wish in Brotherhood, you could actually go on that massive wall that you go on in AC2. Real shame you can't, always tried to. Same with in the start of Brotherhood where your in the apple of eden area, wish you could get back into that, same with the all the areas in the building part in AC2
