I’m not a fan of the non-linear target system. Really takes away from the story if you’re the one doing the progression. I think origins did it pretty nicely where you knew your targets but unlocked more as you hunted them. The idea that you can just pop around and take out any target whenever really kills the pacing.

But keep in mind the operative word is 'supposed'. Ubi doesn't have a good track record over the past ~7 years. I'm very much hoping they're starting to learn the lesson of aiming for wide public appeal isn't going to work out in the long run. A lot of the original AC fans have moved on after seeing their beloved franchise's corpse being sockpuppeted several games in a row and this kitchen sink of mechanics and features doesn't hold the attention of the 'new shiny' crowd for long when the 'we have X at home' is better than the newest offering. Personally, I'm in the first camp and am simply here out of morbid curiosity. I already know I won't be buying this other than from the bargain bin at best and a lot of the comments I've seen echo that same sentiment.

Marking waypoints sounds like it works like ghost recon wildlands/breakpoint; get to a vantage point and look out to identify points of interest. Also sounds like they are taking the stealth / prone elements from ghost recon too, although the shadow meter sounds like Splintercell. I hope Shadows ends up being a really good version of Tenchu Z. Shame Shadows doesn't have co-op though. Would be cool if they had a revenge system like Shadow of Mordor/War. Would also be cool if they make the assassins network like Metal Gear Solid V, where you can technically play the game with a soldier you've recruited.

There is a shadow system in the GR games too. It's not as in depth as Splinter Cell, but being within a shadow increases the time it takes for enemies to recognize you, doesn't affect spotting distance though.

I truly enjoyed all these characters and they're stories even tho Edward was really just a badass pirate that had nothing to do the assassins. I would assume the “brotherhood” aspect will be like Far Cry 6 where you can recruit the spies by rescuing or helping them in quests and once they’re rostered they just become a picture in your spy network page with various skills, then the missions will have a generic description that help you choose which skills would be most effective. Incorrect, Yasuke was an enslaved bodyguard for Italian missionary, Alessandro Valignano. As recorded in the diary of the samurai Matsudaira Ietada, he was 6ft 2 which was far larger than the average Japanese person at the time. After meeting Nobunaga he impressed him with his ability to speak Japanese and skills as a soldier. It would make complete sense to have Yasuke as a servant and a combatant for his strength and size alone… use your mind. Nobunaga granted Yasuke his Japanese name (which wouldn’t have occurred if he was simply a servant as it is an honor), accepted him into his service, and made him the first recorded foreigner to receive the title of samurai. Yasuke was also one of the few people who dined with Nobunaga, which demonstrated the closeness of their relationship. He served Nobunaga until he committed seppuku and then his son Oda Nobutada until his defeat. Not much is known post that.

Well Ubisoft tried to replicate the success Ghost of Tsushima achieved but They don't have the vision, passion and creative freedom to make a product that is free of some certain agenda. I am not saying that people will not buy this game. It will sell well but It will be another Ubisoft 7 - 8 rated (Mediocre) game with no new creative ideas or compelling story. They are just copying successful games like Witcher, Ghost of Tsushima etc. They did the same thing with AC Odyssey and Valhalla which were clearly inspired by Witcher 3. See there was a time back in 2000 - 2014 Ubisoft were pioneers and they had creative vision. Many of their games released in this time period were really innovative and had genuinely compelling stories but nowadays They are just another corporate seeking money. Thats it no more new ideas, risks or creative freedom.

I really liked syndicate, im probably in the massive minority with that but the world was smaller better contained. They implimented the grappling hook, the moving train base was awesome, the arkham combat was definitly watered down but it made the game loop just enjoyable enough to keep me engaged. It felt like a step in the right direction for the series.... then orgins comes along, that was really the start of the end.

All I can say is, buy this if you want, but even the physical edition needs an internet connection to install. Meaning, the physical edition is basically worthless. In five years when Ubisoft inevitably revokes your right to play what you paid for NO COMPLAINTS! You know their track record. You can spend your money however you want, its yours, you earned it. But support this kinda stuff, and you have NO right to complain years later when you can no longer play.

To be clear, a company called sweet baby inc. Is connected to this title, and they have a habit of toxicity towards people who don't support their "vision" of forcing foreign cultures into places and roles they were never supposed to be, likely why the main male character is a samurai even though he wasn't actually one in history, they also have members who have been very public about standing against Japanese ideals and culture, which has lead people to believe that, and these following words are not my own "blackwash" a prominent and honored role in Japanese culture. There were black, white, and many other peoples in Japan, and they could of fulfilled any number of roles as a main character or a supporting cast. But it hurts to see a role of honor just get given to someone because their real life counterpart was colored and that supports the companies image and ideals. Using dead people to force an opinion is shameful.

@@blooperman1997 At least there they had function as they could blend in with the monks in the early games and Ezio with the priests. Also the Syndicate game they didn't even blend in with anything. The rooks were what you blend with or the shadows when playing as the sister. Now it is not just illogical how they look in a crowd but even unrealistic as Samurai NEVER wore their armor unless they were ready for a battle. Samurai were also not worshiped like the second coming of Jesus when just walking through a village. Shinobi were more infiltrators and normally didn't carry large swords, least of all in public. So yeah.... just another indication that ubi AC devs lost the plot of their old games

Thanks for the video. This video saved me $70+. Im done with AC games at this point. Ghost of Tsushima is by far better than any AC game i ever played and its not even close. I cant put it down. Post black flag i cant even hit 20 hours gameplay on any modern AC game. They all boring, lame, lack immersion, gameplay annoys me greatly at times and story's are just meh.

No trouble there. it is about the breakdown of what Assassins creed has always been and how using Yasuke is breaking down all the 'set in stone' rules that AC has set up throughout the decades. In all the AC games you have never seen an Assassin take the spotlight in the historical events. There is not 1 game where the Assassins said "yeah we did that". This keeps the historical events accurate with a fictional underline. Take Rodrigo Borgia for example in AC2. He existed, he became the pope, he died of unknown causes. In the game they made his son poison him. In the end Rodrigo disappeared because Ezio had left him for dead near the vault. History as we know it in real life still stays accurate but the backdrop is filled in with fiction. That is how AC always was and that is only possible if you keep your MC's NOT real historical characters. So taking Yasuke as an MC to free Japan from oppression. Also means that Yasuke suddenly becomes historically important, which rewrites the real history of Japan. Ubi says "Learn about the era of Japan through the eyes of Yasuke." Sure he is a kind of blank slate, but a random fuctious character is just as well a blank slate, if not more. Yasuke was never of real importance in anything that happened in Japan. The first britisch guy (forgot his name, but what the series Shogun was based on) would have been way more important. (But I guess a normal white dude is not DEI enough). In the end they could have done so much different with this not to mention the fact they get lots of time era things wrong like structures, language, the way samurai wear armors and also when..... I can keep going but you are not going to learn about japan through the eyes of Yasuke. you are going to learn about Ubi's idea of japan, a ficntionalised version that isn't really japan.

Violence and viscera isn't what makes Ghost Of Tsushima's combat so good... It's that it is tactile, seamless, responsive, intuitive, and the animations are butter smooth. Awesome sound design, too. If Ubisoft can't accomplish that they don't stand a chance - regardless of how violent it is.

Requiring internet to install it means you're at the mercy of Ubi's servers to install it, meaning if say 2 or 3 years from now those servers aren't available, you can't play it at all, online or otherwise. It also means they can shoehorn whatever stupid updates they want into patches and force you to download them even if it's something that makes the game objectively worse (ie MTX)

UBI stated that this game was faithful to history. However, from my point of view as a Japanese, everything is an appropriate work. First of all, they made Yasuke a samurai even though there are few references to him. The kanji for Yasuke in the game is (Yasuke 弥助→弥目力). The kanji for solving the riddle on the box is also wrong. The emblem of Nobunaga Oda, whom Yasuke served, is upside down, which is disrespectful, and he also wears the emblem of another shogun. The cherry blossoms, cranes, and silver grass symbolize different seasons and are not seen in one landscape. The depiction of Japanese castles is appropriate. The Japanese people have allowed Hollywood to portray Japan incorrectly and have not raised the issue of fantasy. However, we will not forgive this game for its fidelity to the twisting of history. You should know that anyone who thinks he knows Japan by playing this game is a fool.
