Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Assassin's Creed Odyssey: both in the same franchise, but two very different games. Does Valhalla build upon the franchise’s new formula, introduced in Origins and honed by Odyssey, or does it give fans a different experience.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the latest game in Ubisoft's open-world series, and it continues the franchise’s new RPG formula from the Ancient Greece-set predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. But how does Valhalla compare to Odyssey?
In the video above, Jordan Ramée and Lucy James compare the two games across three topics: gameplay, world and setting, and story and characters. From a gameplay standpoint, Valhalla streamlines many of Odyssey’s loot-heavy mechanics, while returning the series to its roots by bringing back elements such as social stealth and the hidden blade.
Lucy and Jordan also break down the two games' settings: Viking-era England, and Ancient Greece, and discuss which title best represents its historical location. And finally, they discuss Valhalla and Odyssey’s central protagonists, comparing fan-favourite Kassandra with the new assassin on the block, Eivor.

Eivor(I only played the male version) shows like "All I want is stay at my home and having good time with my family, just our way to survive is killing, or give a fk on Assassin Creed stuff)", with eyes of dead fish and stone face. Eagle Bearer (Both) show MALAKA spirit... a good motivation of having their adventure, with Barnabas!

They do a solid job of actually fleshing out characters as well, whether characters part of your settlement, potential allies, and even the Order assassination targets, which were just generic npcs with no personality in Odyssey. I still liked Odyssey, but Valhalla is an improvement in terms of gameplay and narrative. Although, I still prefer the settings of Origins and Odyssey, as I find Egypt and Greece more interesting than England.

How the hell is Kassandra a contender being the new Ezio? She is a pre established character with no character traits because the player is supposed to decide that. Just want to see what your thoughts are on a true investigative difficulty for the next assassin's creed. Plus new/old mechanics This difficulty will be a more hands on, extreme version of the exploration/pathfinder difficulties. Instead of looking on your map to see that an objective is north and by what river, these would be details that you find in game by being told, reading notes, through interrogation, or by eavesdropping. The information would be a little more obscure and time sensitive with no help from the game so you would have to keep a personal note of the investigation. For example, you are told that a man with a scar across his left eye who visits the bar every night knows where to find who you are looking for (eagle vision full return, doesn't work through walls). With the new decision process in the game, (cant say I'm a fan), but at which point you could sit down with the character and get him so drunk that he tells you what you're after, or you can follow him home and interrogate him. Either way he tells you that a meeting will take place two days from now (meditate to speed up, the way of the tao) in the woods north of the great oak west of Takasaki. No fast travel unless paid for at a carriage service. Road signs also point the way. An eagle will be used to find the oak and eagle vision in the trees to locate the people you're looking for. If you miss it though you've missed your chance and have to start another investigation. Given that your current target could be lower on the hierarchy. Upon reaching them you could simply kill them or eavesdrop or interrogate them for more information on the higher-ups. Choosing to let them go upon retrieval of the information could have a chance that they tell you false information and lead you into a trap, or tell the higher up that you're coming for them which could lead to increased activity and more information becoming available in the local area. As the story goes on, instead of building up a homestead you build a network of assassins and information collectors that do these things for you. A node will have to be set up in each province/city otherwise its up to you. Ac brotherhood style, you send recruits out on missions to retrieve information and at a high enough level, they can even go on assassination missions for you. The old style bounty system would need to come back. Each time you enter combat openly in a public square or fail an assassination attempt bounty hunters start coming after you. This is where the new hooded stealth system would come into play. The higher the bounty, the harder it becomes to walk the streets, with higher bounty levels resulting in common folk wanting a piece of the action because it is so high. These missions would have to be procedural with enough variety to make 95% of them seem unique. The story missions will play out as normal. It is just a mechanic for when you're looking for assassination targets, adding a whole lot more depth to the cult/order mechanics for hardcore creed players. No objective markers, only a compass and a map with icons. I also feel like combat needs to be more rewarding/deadly with multiple enemies attacking you at once. Abilities need to be more realistic and actually incorporated into the combat instead of being about to die (not that it's possible in Valhalla) and suddenly becoming impervious to attack while pulling 6 axes out of your arse. Smoke bombs and explosive/poison arrows need to be crafted or bought.

This is very interesting. Realistically, no one will bother to develop a game that does what you propose. @tobygjertsen2312 3 жыл бұрын
@@palecurve the immersive nature of it, I.e. the no map marker suggestions doesnt need to be the base difficulty. I just feel like the harder difficulties in ac dont really change much. They certainly dont make it harder or more involving. As for the difficulty to program ubisoft are already working with procedural mechanics in watchdogs. All they'd need to do is manually create a couple hundred characters, at least 4 times the amount of landmarks than cult members which is something they already do. Along with a fair few missions structures. Then they would simply tie it all together in a procedural format. All of this could still remain in the more directed difficulties but with quest markers and less depth. The difficulty simply makes the eagle (which in Valhalla the crow is literally pointless) necessary along with eagle vision. All of the other mechanics I have suggested fit well within the bounds of possibility. They're things ubisoft have already done. Genuinely wish I could march into the studio, slap the head in the face and be like this is what were doing. It's what people are asking for, they want the old creed back in some way shape or form. An assassins creed with depth could actually take game of the year

I don't know. I'm already hooked and want to explore every single bit of it and take everything i can find on the map. Odyssey is one of my favorites still but for many it is not. I'd say i will always remember that game as "good ol' times" and it was something that touched my heart deeply, not kiddin. Bad thing is Valhalla is somewhat same play style and it is not delivering the same new feeling of excitement but i'm okay with that. Can not please everyone i guess

I have yet to play Valhalla, so I am not saying which game is better just yet...but Odyssey is THE apex of this series so far, and that portion of Ubi has always been the best with AC games! I for one absolutely love the 60-80 hours I put into Odyssey, both at launch and in DLC, and truly felt like my $$ was well spent for once! One thing no one talks about is the Modern Day, which makes or breaks any AC game, and not since AC3 have we seen such immense attention put forth into that crucial aspect like we did in Odyssey...what I hear is Valhalla has amped up that portion as well unlike every other AC game the devs had put out, which gives me hope overall!!

After about 50 hours into Odyssey i got bored and put it away for about 4 months until i went back to finish it. Odyssey had an amazing story that paid off in the end. Whereas, Valhalla was good but I did not like the abrupt ending and no explanation for why one character betrays Eivor, I had to Google wtf happened, and there were other players that were lost too. Also why didn't they incorporate the Order into the main quests, except for 2 targets?

I feel like Valhalla took many of the positives from Origins and Odyssey and combined them while stripping the game from many things people complained about in Odyssey. Odyssey's map is incredible, regardless of your thoughts on the game. It's a fun map, so explorable and actually fun to explore too. Feels a bit like RDR2 (although nothing compares to RDR2's open world so far) I felt like Origins map was kind of dull over all, except for a few notable areas like Alexandria and Cyrene. Pretty, but lifeless. I feel like Valhalla's map is a step down from Odyssey but a step up from Origins in explorability. Odyssey has the better setting of the three in my opinion. What I liked in Origins is back in Valhalla: the assassination effectiveness and the arrow effectiveness. It makes it easier to do stealth. I liked the Eagle's functionality better in Odyssey than I liked the hawk or the raven in Origins and Valhalla. That bird (so far) is pretty useless, which is an adjustment, especially when I just finished Odyssey. The main storyline is better in Valhalla than it was in Odyssey, because it feels more grounded/real and I feel like the quests give you so much to work with than they did in Odyssey. That being said, I loved the idea that Kassandra essentially went from literal nothing to a demi-goddess. I got really attached to her and her journey. I'm not as attached to Eivor's quite yet. I loved the armor system in Odyssey... mainly your ability to adapt your armor's look. That was so fun. IDK... I'm loving Valhalla so far. I'm very entertained. I haven't really played that much of it yet, so I'm sure it'll get better as I go.

I think that origins is the best in terms of wild life animals would eat each other and you could see it with Senu very lively world. Also the arena of Origins was amazing!. Odyssey had an amazing naval system I loved swimming in the waters of Greece, also the mythical creatures were really nice. Valhalla is good but it has many problems. The game glitches a lot, the AI is dumb as hell I always play with nightmare difficulty to have a challenge but Valhalla does not give me any, those things really messed up my experience in the game. The game is great you are this raider viking that wants to make his clan stronger it’s good but then again, I was disappointed that Grendel was not a mythological creature. Also HUGE problem for me: when you upgrade armor sets it changes their color, I hate it ‘cause I have a red hood and the legendary upgrade makes it blue. It’s a good game but with many issues.

The one area where Odyssey kind of failed for me was it didn't really *end*, it just sort of petered out, as you one-by-one finished the family quest, the cult of Kosmos quest, and the Atlantis quest. You could of course say the game ends when you complete the last of these three, whichever order you do them in, but for me as a storytelling experience that really didn't work. I'm installing Valhalla right now and I really hope it doesn't do a similar thing.
