I bought 3 Assassin snails as I had a severe Malaysian Trumpet Snail problem. They didn't control it. They committed Genocide. They also bred well. They do eat a bit of algae. They also swarm algae biscuits when I put them in. I don't remove dead fish. They eat every bit of platty sized fish in a half a day. They live fine alongside my Nerites. They are beautiful and provide lots of entertainment.

See I've never seen them touch a Malaysian Trumpet Snail either but I've seen it in other people's tanks so can't explain that one yet.

@Daniel Keeping Fish I also had ramshorn snails at the same time as the MTS. The assasins wiped them out first. Then went on to the MTS. I ended up with like 30 assassins. One of my favourite attacks I saw was when an assassin chased a large MTS up the glass. He got on it. Pulled it from glass and they both fell to bottom where other assasins were. And they mobbed it. I now have zero snails apart from Nerites and assasins. The assasins still breed. But not in the numbers they did before. Great vid by the way. I know how patient you must have been to get some of those shots.

A few months ago I got 2 to take care of a pest snail problem. I now have 2 adults 3 juveniles and 2 eggs. I actually plan to move them from my 10 gallon in a few months and put them in my 15 gallon which also has a huge amount of pest snails as I over feed my guppies (making sure fry eat). Absolutely love these snails

I just bought two sails for my tank, which is overrun with Malaysian Trumpet Snails. They're cute, and look like little elephants with hats when they're all the way out and roaming on top of the substrate. Watching them eat is insane, too. I just happened to catch "Brain" eating a small one last night, but "Pinky" has just been hanging on the glass just 'Narf'in.

I have a ridiculous amount of bladder snails. However there’s also small live bearers, and shrimp in the tank. Would you recommend assassin snails for this tank? I love watching the shrimp (neocardanias) they’re so peaceful so I don’t want to put them in danger but again too many bladder snails. I thought they were cute at first. Have a ton of live exotic plants in the tank (assuming that’s where they come from) but before I realized it it looks really ugly with them there.
@DanielKeepingFish2 ай бұрын
@nakenyaliven9095 yes totally! Some people say they eat Cheery shrimp but I've kept them together for years and I don't think it's a problem. They will eat dead ones, possibly sick and dying ones but not live healthy shrimp. The Cherries are too quick for the Assassins for one thing. I've even got video of Cherry shrimp riding around on top of Assassins very unconcerned. They will definitely help to control your bladder snails and of course they won't damage your plants. The other thing you can do is add some veggies like a slice of blanched corgette/zucchini to your tank for a couple of hours. Loads of Bladder snails should climb on it to feed so you can pull out lots of them in one go. Do this a few times and you can make a big dent in the Bladder snail numbers then let the Assassins mop up the rest. Just don't leave the vegetable in your tank too long. If you leave it in over night for example it could start breaking down and make a mess of your water.

Jason Bournes haha... They'll help for sure. You could drop a slice of corgette or a lettuce leaf in for an hour or so and when the snails climb on it lift the vegetable out with loads of them on then let the Assains mop up the rest. Just don't leave the corgette in too long, it'll start breaking down after a few hours and foul up your water.

Will they in any way attack my pygmy corys? New to the hobby and have a massive surge of snails that needs taken care of 🙂
@DanielKeepingFish11 ай бұрын
No. Cories are too smart, too agile and too quick for that to happen. They will feast on a dead fish but generally don't have the ability to hunt them. I say generally because I did have an Apistogramma that tried to eat one once and the Assasin tried to eat him right back haha.. I ended up having to remove it from the fish's mouth. By the way it would take them a while to make a dent in a large snail population. You might consider dropping a piece of vegetable like corgette into your tank and removing numbers of snails when they climb on to eat. You might need to do that several times to reduce the number of snails then use Assasins to mop up the stragglers.
@hydroguy692711 ай бұрын
@@DanielKeepingFish Awesome!! Thanks for the advice. I will do the trap first for sure.
@DanielKeepingFish11 ай бұрын
@@hydroguy6927 no worries at all. Just don't leave the vegetable in the water too long. If you left it over night for example it will break down and effect your water. Doesn't take long for loads of them to climb on though you'll be able to remove plenty that way. Might need to repeat it a few times to make a dent in the population then let the Assasins do the rest. Good luck with it.

Great video, I’ll be using them to control the population of trumpet snails in my aquarium, I hope it works out
@DanielKeepingFish6 ай бұрын
They're expert predators. I ended up having to keep a separate culture of snail to maintain a food source for them when they wiped out all the snails in their tank. Can always keep frozen blood worm handy to feed them too as long as that's okay for other tank mates too.

@DanielKeepingFish Жыл бұрын
Always exceptions to the rules I guess. I have to wonder in cases like this if there is something effecting the shrimp making them particularly susceptible to attack or something making the snails particularly aggressive but maybe not. Maybe they just do it on rare occasions as you say.
