As a woman, I couldn’t love and appreciate this video more, the concepts absolutely apply to us ❣️ Please do this every season! Nothing beats classic and timeless ✨
@m.maclellan71473 ай бұрын
The thing I find, as a woman, is the quality, sizing & styling are poor in MUCH of women's clothing. Due to financial constraints, I can't shop at higher end stores. I DO thrift clothing, though. I often look in BOYS sizes for tops, as they are better made. The only problem is that the sleeves are too long. And, forget pants ! It's a constant struggle trying to get ones that FIT at all ! I am thinking of trying to sew some pants/trousers as here on KZbin, there is a person Ora Lin who has come out with a size inclusive pattern for pants for women. She sends out her pattern to women of different sizes to pattern test, so even though she is a slim build, I am hoping the pattern works well for my body type !
@leslierobertson3853 ай бұрын
I totally agree, but I find it more difficult with women's clothing. I think men have more classic styles available to them all the time, whereas women's clothing tends to follow trends more? At least that's my experience. It takes a lot more looking around, but I guess that fits with the ethos of purchasing only a few good-quality pieces as you find them.

It's so important for people who may not have already learned it from their parents or grandparents BUT buying quality once, will save thousands of dollars over your lifetime if not chasing current, fast fashion. Save your money and buy the handmade purse from Italy, the handmade leather boots, or if you can't manage that-the very best quality shoe possible and take care of it. Ok, mom talk over. I LOvED the style show at the end. My husbands family did this with their kids when new clothes were purchased for school and I did it too in my family. Of course when we married and had children, the tradition carried on. PS-The fall colors at the end look gorgeous with your completion and hair color. Perfect! All the love from Louisiana to you- Happy Weekend everyone❤

Yes, bomber jackets were first made for pilots in WW1, who flew in open cockpits and therefore had to be protected from the elements at high altitudes. They were made of leather with a thick shearling lining, and were shorter in length for comfort as they were only used sitting down. iirc, leather versions were used in WW2 because insulating the pilots themselves was cheaper than insulating the planes. After the war they became popular among civilians as there was a big surplus of them and were relatively affordable. Later, nylon versions with synthetic linings were introduced.

Dear Rajiv, Thank you for all the wonderful videos you create for the world. I used to watch you on the HGTV channel before you had your own. Today, I wondered why I am watching a video of men’s classic fall fashion? In no way, this applies to me. Then I realized I don’t necessarily watch ALL your videos because I have an old copper pot to re-tin, I watch because I’m desperately trying to find out how is it that you hang on to life with such meticulous love and care that you don’t miss a second of it. I realized that I watch to learn how to fuss over everything I own and buy to make it something I truly want, enjoy, and care about. I watch hoping that somehow this incredible fresh zest that you have for life, somehow through the airwaves come over and light up my soul too. There is no way that, unlike the rest of us, you’re unaffected by life’s turbulence. I’m sure you too have experienced sadness, betrayal, frustration, disappointment, and … What I want to learn so badly is despite all of that, how to enjoy my life the way you do but my way. I too live in Manhattan and this magical city has so much to offer but I can’t bring myself to care. I wish I could care about having a handmade shirt that was woven of wool from a chosen sheep. But I just order something online and that’s that. So much effort means connection with life and loving it, I don’t and I hate that. I feel I’m wasting my life and letting it pass me by. Btw, I’m not depressed if I sound like one. I used to have chronic major depression for 25 years. I know the difference.

Hi There, I am writing back to tell you how much your comment means to me. Although I'm making videos about my wardrobe and copper kettle, the ultimate message that I hope to convey is how possible it is to use every single day, even the simplest ones, to make your life feel worthwhile. The challenge is that it is work, and it's work that only you can do. All that work takes place in your mind. You don't have to knit wool sweaters or wash persian rugs, but you can find the things in your life that do spark some kind of contentment and then lean in further to those things. I really hope these videos inspire people who watch to seek some meaning in the simple joys that present themselves every day. Part of the very reason I'm ABLE to do all this with love and care is because of the very fact that so much of the sadness and hatred in the world is way beyond my control. I turn inwards to the world that I am able to control, and I make that world the most beautiful thing within my means. We all have the power to do that for ourselves and I hope to share some tools to help you do that.

@@rajivsurendra I watched last night, a wonderful video as always, but why I am here this brisk, frost-on-the-pumpkin morning, is to not only echo what the initial commenter had to say (and said it perfectly) but that I got my weekly digest from another "transplanted New Yorker" @ the Marginalian. Her lead-off post was titled "The Republic of the Sensitive: E.M. Forster on the Personal and Political Power of Empaths and the Relationship Between Creativity and Democracy. It sounded kinda dry, maybe scholarly (not that I am afraid of scholastic stuff, I embrace it wholeheartedly) for such a beautiful, quiet morning, but I went on to give it a read. Oh my goodness! There was no way I could NOT see and sense you as among those that Forster described thusly: "[snip] ..the sensitive, the considerate and the plucky. Its members are to be found in all nations and classes, and all through the ages, and there is a secret understanding between them when they meet. They represent the true human tradition, the one permanent victory of our queer race over cruelty and chaos. Thousands of them perish in obscurity, a few are great names. They are sensitive for others as well as for themselves, they are considerate without being fussy, their pluck is not swankiness but the power to endure, and they can take a joke… Their temple… is the holiness of the Heart’s affections, and their kingdom, though they never possess it, is the wide-open world." ❣ So MUCH like your message, the material that Maria picked out (by Forster) and built her essay around -- not a dry read at all! I know you will most likely never see this, but perhaps others who really groove with your presentations, your shared adventures and generosity, will find this helpful, so I will put a link in here for future readers (it would take 5 minutes to read, but you may want to go back and re-read parts, or the entire essay.) www.themarginalian.org/2024/10/31/e-m-forster-sensitive/

@@rajivsurendra Thank you, Rajiv, for your caring response. I read it yesterday, but I wanted to let it sink in before I write back. What I’m hearing is to create a life for yourself that puts you in control. This way, you are not focused and heartbroken and in my case paralyzed by the chaos of the outside world that is beyond my control. I believe that’s what those with OCD, excessive workout, binge eating, overuse of CBD, using controlled substances and alcohol, anorexia, hero complex (constantly focusing on others and trying to fix and save them), gossip (nitpicking and passing judgment on others on social media as well the old school way of doing it), being a controlling partner or parent, excessive porn, isolation, excessive gaming or gambling are trying to do but they go about it in an unhealthy way. I think it’s the first time I see in you, someone who is creating that control in the healthiest way possible. This is blowing my mind as I’m realizing and writing it. In order to create that control, instead of getting lost in time, you have honed in by paying attention to every single thing around you which are all everyday essentials to make them the best they can be according to your likeness. That has created a deep connection with life instead of getting lost in it. The beauty of it is that you make magic with a kettle, a knitted jacket, a harp, a wrapping paper, and even the stepping stool you use to get things from the top of your closet. You are being intentional with things we all have and use mindlessly but you have turned them into magic. The brilliance of this is the simplicity of it. My mind is blown away decoding your mystical approach to life. Thank you

Like yourself, I've curated my wardrobe over the years to include only natural fibers, in classic and well constructed shapes. It gives me so much pleasure to wrap myself in cashmeres, silks and cottons. No polyester in site. Those who know me, admire my style. They flip when I tell them how I've thrifted this or that. It's a knack that I have. Some pieces are vintage because they don't make it like that anymore. Hugs from Toronto.

I love the cape. It is lovely to see people have so much fun with their wardrobe and that cape is both practical and fun. I live in the UK and here a classic / timeless Autumn item of clothing for men is a wool tweed checked jacket. You could go for a smart fitted version or a more relaxed, well loved and worn in look. You can often get matching waistcoats. A waistcoat on its own worn over one of your checked shirts would also be nice, and under one of your jackets adds another layer of warmth, texture, pattern and interest. The waistcoats often have a small pocket to put a pocket watch in - another fun item to add to your wardrobe and a great conversation starter.

This video made my day! I’m slowly curating my own handmade wardrobe. I just finished a very busy theatrical fall season and want to devote some time in the next two months to sewing, and this was just the boost I needed to make that a real priority!

I love that beautiful yellow wool cloth shirt. And you have a large piece left over, which would make the most beautiful scarf to wear in winter with a dark coat. It would really suit you. Remember to fringe the ends! I love corduroy and I’m so glad it’s back in fashion. ❤

Rajiv you are delightful to listen to and I enjoy all your videos. This one was lovely and bright to mind my mother taking me shopping and buying quality wools and other clothes that were always stylish and timeless. She was timeless to the day she passed at 97 this year. Thank you for sharing your fashion design/ fashions. You always look amazing in whatever you wear. ❤❤❤

Wool gabardine is the only textile for me. It breathes, it holds its shape and it never looks bad! I love the cape. Wonderful video!

Wonderful video. I am of the same attitude towards clothes. Fabric composition is first thing I check. Except for sportswear, polyester, acrylic and other synthetic fibers should be no more than 20%. Not only you look great in timeless elegance. It is more responsible approach to our environment. These garments can be used for years without being boring, they are well combinable and they are better for recycling at the end.

Hi Rajiv! Can I just come over there and give you the biggest hug?! This whole styling session just warmed my heart and soul. Especially at the end giving us a last culmination look at your very special pieces. What joy and admiration and love I felt for your devotion to excellence and timeless fashion. You wear it all so beautifully! My husband has a small closet just like yours as we too live in a very limited spaced NYC apartment. The way you have curated it gives me such great ideas! The wax jacket! The Celines! So worth it! It would be great if you could link the pieces or similar ones. But I'm a fashion stylist so I have my homework from this amazing vlog! Thank you for all the LOVE! xo Madelyn

You are absolutely right! Cockpits in planes did not have complete closure so to the pilots had to wear something warm of course . These jackets then became a staple for aviation in the army dating back to 1917 . Through the years they have changed in style but have really always been beautiful. I love the history of fashion especially military fashion. The shapes and sleekness of the uniforms have always been such a vision of power. As Always thanks for sharing

As a fellow plastic hater, I struggled for so long to figure out alternatives in my life. I've learned SO much about natural fibers and fabrics from Rajiv, and he's inspired me to do my own research into clothing using natural fibers, as well as using natural materials in other aspects of my life. Thank you, Rajiv!
