Looks good, I have one myself and was told by an elderly neighbor that you want the stone to spin away from you. Not sure if it makes a difference besides keeping some of the water off you but just figured I would pass the information along. Thanks for the video

People are told many things. From Mitchell's "Grindstones and Grindstone Fixtures" it doesn't really matter until you get near the end of your work, in which case they recommend running the stone into the edge so you don't produce too much of a burr and are more able to observe your edge because of it. However in my opinion until you do get near the end, it is much safer and cleaner to run it away from the edge.

My grandfather had one a lot like this; it sat in a stone trough that had a little natural spring running through it to cool and lubricate. He sharpened farm tools with it in the 1920's - 1940's. The little building it sat in was always dark and cool. What a nice memory.

I just got the stone only from my wife's old family farm. They couldn't find the frame anymore, but I figure I can fabricobble something together to get it up and running again. Looks like fun! :)

That's a really nice find at your uncle's place. I have restored 2 so far and the bigger one of the two is over 3 feet in diameter. It came out of a old sawmill that operated till the early 80s. I have placed it in my blacksmith shop.

If I may make a tiny suggestion: 6:50 put a somewhat thick washer between the lock pin and the arm, to avoid more wear on the round bar. Regards from Chile!!

If it hasn’t been said, you probably will wand to put a washer inside of the cotter pin. They can be soft. Also seems like a lot of water. Pretty neat tool though.

My grindstone seems to lack a flange and a bolt to secure the stone to the shaft. So the previous owner just wedged it and used PUR foam to secure it... Would love to see you show what the flange actually looks like. Apparently you oughta loosen it, put the highest point on top and tap on the top of the stone to make sure its center and runs true. But obviously I can't because mine is foamed and wedged in place.

The grinding wheel and frame came from my uncles farm. I’m afraid I do not have a print. It is actually a little flimsy and the stone oscillates from side to side when peddling so if you build one yourself be sure to reinforce it.
