About 15 months (long story). I like the STL lugs better because they have the swivel function, but are smaller and classier than the BRL lugs IMO.

Masterworks drums can be ordered through your favorite Pearl Drums dealer, like Drums on Sale in Hagerstown, MD or Drum Center of Portsmouth. If you go on the Pearl Drums website, and look up "Masterworks", you will eventually find order forms that can be filled out to make sure you pick every detail you want for each drum. The kick drum heads can be ordered from Vintage Logos on the internet.

What kind of shells are these?

They were mahogany inner plies, middle plies of maple, and an outer ply of exotic bubinga. The shells were very thick, and Pearl didn't cut the edges the way I ordered them, so I sold these about 7 or 8 years ago.

When I discovered the kit was finished incorrectly, I talked to John Goode from DW. He was very nice, but he tried to steer me away from drums I wanted (mainly the 6" concert toms and the Gong Drum). Also, DW's price was $10,000 more than my kit, and was MISSING several features that come standard with Pearl Masterworks drums.

I built that rack for my 2009 Masters Premium kit. When the Masterworks kit arrived, I just made some adjustments to it. If I get a new kit, I will do the same thing... just make adjustments. I am changing mic booms now.

Thanks Scott! I've been playing them for almost a year now. I've shot a bunch of videos with them, and they've sounded great all the way through. I'm making one more video, then I will be breaking the kit down for cleaning and new heads. It should be quite an endeavor!

That kit is LONG gone. I didn't have any trouble keeping the drums in tune. My new kit, Tama Starclassic Bubinga, tunes up easily, and stays in tune well.

I just bought me some Zildjian Avedis cymbals. I have a 5 piece set of Pearl Export Pro from 1993. Wine Red with a birch shell. I sold my nintendo games and my 1st set to be able to afford them!!! My first set was a 3 piece Ludwig from 1967. Wished I could have hung on to them!!! But thats the way it goes.

My I recommend "Music Nomad's drum detailer cleans the shells and hardware .. It's pretty amazing .. Comes in a spray bottle .. Just get a micro cloth and get to work on those babies.

Thanks C5Rigzz! The small stacks in the front middle (low) are Sabian Maxx Stax pairs (8" china over a 8" splash, and a 10" china over a 10" splash). On the right, there are 2 closed hi-hats. The drums are the same diameters as my previous kit, but the depths, shell thicknesses and wood compositions are all different.

They are AKG C-418 clip on mics, which have been discontinued for quite some time. I have several extra in case any stop working. I really like them for how small they are and how well they work.

Thanks Mac! My suggestion is to save a little more money, and get the new Session Studio Classic with the free 14" (or 16") floor tom. There is a new finish coming out in the SSC line, but I'm not sure what the finish is. They have a matte amber finish that is beautiful. The new finish is so nice, one of the executives there is ordering a kit in this new "mystery" finish!

You get to pick the plies of wood, as long as you pick in pairs of 2 plies. Each of the drums in this kit has one outer ply of figured bubinga, middle plies of maple and inner plies of African mahogany. It is a beautiful combination!

And to keep cost down on the BB's they don't stain the inside shells like they do with the full bubinga.. Soooo.. I stripped all my hardware off sanded the inner shell with fine steel wool.. And used Tung oil .. And the drums look amazing.. No difference in sound that I can hear.. So now they have that rich dark color ..exactly like the full bubinga line... Bubinga is naturally a light colored wood.staining them really brought the true beauty of the wood out.

Funny u should say that . That's the color I have .. When I picked up the kit at Sam ash .. I had to order a second bass drum, a 8" tom and a 14" floor tom.. They can still build the drum with discontinued colors for up to 3 yrs I believe .

Hi Josh. The original kit was painted completely wrong. The finish was supposed to be "black burst to natural bubinga", but the factory decided to paint the edges a reddish brown instead. Why? We have no idea. I wanted a little less black, and explained that in detail, but they somehow took that to mean that I wanted the edges a different color... when all I wanted was less black... just slightly burnt edges. The second kit came out perfect, except they cut the edges wrong. I kept the kit.

The mixed woods sounds like a beautiful combination .. Bubinga is an amazing wood. I have a double bass Tama starclassic BB .. Hybrid shells are the way to go .
