My friend came over and assembled this for me. It took him a couple hours to assemble it and he didn’t have any problems. I was gonna pay the bike shop to do it, but all I had to do was give my friend a couple electric scooters that were broken (he likes to fix things). All I need to do is ride it once the weather gets better!

I came here to see how to route the chain through the derailleur, you didn't show that but I figured it out. My wife got the same color as the one you were assembling. She used to ride 20 to 30 miles a day until she was hit by a car back in 95 and hasn't ridden since due to the injuries at first then just too busy with work and life. We're retired now and she wants to get back into riding but she's too unsteady on a regular bike so that's why we got this one. Thanks' for posting this video.

Have one and they are good only if you need to carry things but don't have a car, or you have trouble keeping your balance on a 2-wheeler, and they are a pain to assemble if you dont any type of mechanical skill, you're better off paying someone to do it.As far as riding it is a learning curve. that 3rd -wheel produces a lot of drag and if the basket is loaded it's even harder to pedal. make sure your tires are always fully filled.also since you sitting up you cant put good amount of pressure on the pedals like you can with a 2-wheeler.all things to consider if you are elderly and have trouble with your legs.In a 2 wheeler you are always vertical but in a 3-wheeler the bike follows the angle of the road and this can be very strange until you get use to it. you have to learn to steer all over again.you also cant get too close to the edge of a road because the rear of the bike is very wide.

I bought a cheap26" 7 speed tricycle from Amazon and I hate it. The bike won't steer straight at all. The thing turns right no matter what speed I'm going, even when I try the first peddling. Plus I tried to go into the very next gear and now there's a click while peddling. Only attempted to ride the bike once and am ready to throw it away. Any suggestions please.
@DentedFenderGarage
@DentedFenderGarage 2 жыл бұрын
If it’s trying to turn right it sounds like the rear 2 wheel assembly is not installed correctly. As for the shifting, there are KZbin videos on adjusting the rear gears to stop clicking. Usually an adjustment that takes just minutes.

A lot of people just don't understand that these kinds of tricycles are inherently unstable on uneven ground (heck they're even unstable on flat ground). Due to how a bicycle usually works when the two rear tires are on uneven ground they're are causing the front tire to want to turn into the direction the trike is leaning, when turning with a trike it wants to lean into the turn, but the rear tires force it to remain straight up which can lead into instability. More rolling resistance and the instability of these kinds of tricycle make them pretty uncomfortable to ride especially for long distances.

I feel like if the seat was comfortable it will be a nice ride. Also #2 Can you put fat tires on this trike? Im a heavy person heard fat tires will make the ride more comfortable.
@DentedFenderGarage
@DentedFenderGarage 3 жыл бұрын
You can find a seat that is larger but all those seat backs bend. As for fat tires, you can put wider tires on it, they might make it ride better but that will come at a cost of more rolling resistance/harder to pedal.

I'm looking for a conversion kit for a regular bicycle. Basically training wheels for an adult size bicycle. The only one I can find it like almost $200.... my bike itself was only $70. There has to be a cheaper version right? I cannot find one for the life of me
@DentedFenderGarage
@DentedFenderGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is not a cheaper option. The trike kit has very specific parts that are not compatible with normal bike stuff (wheels are different, whole rear end assembly). That being said, the rear assembly of an existing trike can be swapped onto many different frames so if you find a cheap busted trike with a good rear end it could be swapped onto your bike.

Fame is overrated. Anonymity is a gift. ;^) What do you think about the weld quality? Wifey and I are seniors, considering adult tricycles for exercise and putting around town. Also, is the 7 speed really useful? We've been looking at the single-speed Schwinn Meridian bikes, which are often under $350 at Wally World. We're in the flatlands so the largest hill is a speed bump or rise over a bridge.
@DentedFenderGarage
@DentedFenderGarage 3 жыл бұрын
If it’s really that flat then I’d go with single speed, if the gearing is too tall (hard) for your comfort you can have a shop swap to a smaller front sprocket for cheap to make it easier. I’ve worked on a Meridian and this bike was comparable but not overpriced for the Schwinn name that is no longer actually “Schwinn.” I was not concerned with weld quality.

@DentedFenderGarage

The current cheapest adult trike with 7 speed and 26” wheel height. Looks almost identically the same except the instructions were horrible. It left out most of the assembly instructions and completely ignored the basket, I agree with the front brake, and derailer adjustment - to the best of my ability - will NOT switch from 1 thru 7! The drive chain changer on the handle simply flat out sucks and a turn knob you have to use quite a bit of force to get even close to gear 6-7. It came with those same crap tools which will not be big enough for the locking nuts for the rear wheels. Thanks for this video as it pointed out how to get the job done, AND just how pathetic ALL Chinese designed crap is since they’ve taken all US money for decades and especially as things are now with one of the most corrupt politicians (including his entire family) ever to inhabit the White House. I’m pretty sure he’s more corrupt that both Herbert Hoover and his successors FDR and Truman. But I’m digressing...sorry. I’m a relatively old guy at age 60 with severe arthritis, foot, and back problems. In other words, I’m in incredible pain as I try to type this and catch any typos before it’s posted. As someone who never road any type of 3-wheel vehicle once I outgrew my kiddie tricycle. Then outgrew the need for training wheels, I understand you point, but you caught one reason, which is my reason, for wanting a decent trike literally to get me and my fishing gear from the north side of the 55+ community I live in here along the central gulf coast of Florida, but not on the Gulf. Walking became too difficult if I brought more than one rod and a few lures. The water here is Brackish, meaning it’s BOTH freshwater and saltwater and it all depends on several conditions of weather and water movement to explain which will be likely to bite on any given day, etc. I hear the derailer you first mentioned that came with the first trike you assembled (yes, about half what any shop would charge. You nailed that one!) I believe you said was a Shimano derailer. I’ve heard those are good quality. I got the cheapest one which has an EBS stamped on it, which means nothing other than its garbage. You also didn’t ,entionnthe trike come with a ‘tire pump’. That could be okay, but not when the tires are stone flat. Luckily again, I keep most tools and other such things as a quality air pump with a multi-head so it can do basketballs to 12’ inflatable boats, and everything in between. Good video, great personality, looks like your daughter was a big help, and finally...I wish you all the best if you want to try to become monetized for your channel. I’m subscribing even if you don’t discuss anything else I’m interest in. I can’t think of doing much more than giving it a like to help you grow. Best wishes and I look forward to scrolling through you other videos since this was from 2020. If you’ve not done one already, how about doing one to show how one of these cheap trikes can be made into a 2/4 stroke gas or electric powered version? There are some I’ve seen, but they use top gear and aren’t from the USA. Might be nice to become represented in this market I believe will grow bigger as we become poorer. Take care to you and your family!
@NealVan
@NealVan 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that was a fast respond! Thank you so much. I fixed my typo if you should see an edited remark. Somehow ‘cattle’ printed while I wanted ‘identically’. Go figure that one? Also, I’m very grateful for the added bonus of the highlight. I hope between your video and my remarks, people looking might save themselves quite a bit of time, frustration, and down right anger as I’ve experienced today trying to get this trike put together having to temper and guess most of my way through. If I’m not overstepping, I can send you a copy through here as a video showing what ‘instructions’ I was given and perhaps it might help you? If not, no problem. I’ve looked at several assembly videos, and in case you didn’t know already, ALL the non-country brands are ALL from the same shops in China put out under various names at differing prices for no reasonable t all other than to scoops up as much retail business as possible. Example: Coolbikes is the same as Bkisy (one I have), Slsy, Aboron, Eosaga, Barberella (which was a fun movie starring JaneFonda getting mostly naked in space. Trivia...it’s also where the band name Duran Duran came from. LOL) and anything labeled simply Adult Tricycle. That’s a ton of brands all in small packages with varying parts, colors, manuals, derailers, etc. I hope this might help you as well. Thanks again for your high praise!

I’m small enough to still interact with anyone who comments, I enjoy the feedback and thank you so much for your kind words. My in-laws live on a river with brackish water, so I know all about the “bite” when fishing it. Glad to hear you live where you do in FL, perfect flat land for a trike. I have my trike in the school where I work and use it to ride classroom to classroom in the halls and flat ground is where a trike belongs. As for the engine on a trike, I’ve always avoided them based on the front end would wobble and become dangerous and at speed, turning would be tippy. There are companies that make a wheel with an electric hub that would actually work great on the front wheel of a trike, unfortunately probably none are made in USA, but you can find kits put together by caring US companies. A front electric hub would pull the trike along either with or without pedaling to assist and would eliminate front end wobble. Turning will always be an issue, I tip mine on 2 wheels taking turns quickly in the hall.
