The method you use to get the correct angle on the tiles for them to fit accurately is so simple and so elegant that I can't think how I never thought of it before. Many thanks for this. It has removed for me a lot of what used to be guesswork in the past.

Thank you Pablo, your series of rosette making video helped me a lot. I always used pre-made commercial rosettes in my guitars, but always dreamed to make them of my own design. I even had sketches drawn years ago with patterns that I figured out, but never took such project away. I think time it's coming to give it a shot. Thanks again for your generosity.

Thank you for this video, Pablo. I make my rosettes using a different method, in that I pre-assemble the pieces and glue them together in a perspex template/mould prior to inlaying the completed rosette in the soundboard. I have always just eyeballed the angles for the tiles, but your method makes a lot of sense. Many thanks again.

Thank you very much for showing your way of making a rosette, one thing I did not understand and you did not show, is how to take the assembled pieces in to the rosette grove in order to glue it definitely. Have you other video where you show how to do it? Best regards. .

I have decided in a short scale Torres but I am a total beginner with no workshop and limited hand tools so it isn't easy. But I am determined. Excellent videos!! I am wondering how you remove the rosette from the guitar top once everything is in place. Glue, tape, magic perhaps? I appreciate so much your teaching and fine workmanship.

Hi +Michelle k you can get veneers from David Dyke in the UK, or Madinter and Maderas Barber in Spain, they all have websites and you can purchase on line. I keep the soundboards as thick as I can while I am working on the rosette ( about 4mm) when the rosette is done I bring it down to the final thickness.

hello Pablo, what are the basic measures (before tapering) of the ebony stick you use to make the black center tiles? Is it really 5x5 mm. I got the impression from the video that they are narrower than the chequered tiles.

Hola +crancarenotafish las chapas ( veneers) se cortan a 2mm de ancho con el bisturi antes de doblarlas y meterlas en el surco de la roseta, una vez encajadas todas las chapas y piezas antes de pegar la cinta, enraso todo con un bloque de madera al que le pego papel de lija de 120, esto se ve en uno de los otros videos que hice sobre este tema. Hi, Thank you for your comments. What you see in the video is not a book, it is a collection of pictures I have taken together with my personal notes about a particular instrument that I was building at the time.

Hi Pablo how are you? I have a question for you did you make the chequerboard mosaic all out of 0.5 veneers or are they made out of 1mm square sticks? I would like make this rosette but where i am the best i can get is 0.5 veneer in 3 or 4 colours, Great videos, thanks Paul

Hi Paul, I am well thanks, I hope you are well too. I used 1mm white veneer and 2 of 0.5 mm green veneer, if you don't find 1mm thick whit you can also do it using 2 of 0.5 All the best.

On the other hand I wish to know if always when you make the center guard, you have to sand or scrape it before cutting in orther to make it go round when you inlay it, or that step is not strictly necessary, I mean. Did Javier on the other video have to do that slight sanding on the borders of the guard/square pattern or not.

If the tile in the centre is not too big, let's say 3 to 4 mm this is not necessary, you can fit them as they are, however, if the tiles are much bigger then it is a good idea to angle the sides so that they fit well in the arch.

No, the checkerboard remains square. The radius is created using only the black tiles.

No hay problema. Solo tienes que ajustar la cantidad de líneas a cada lado para que tenga el tamaño correcto

You say to do 100mm for the first tapered side, then on the other you do 50mm, why is this? Don’t you want an even taper on each side?

Noah Fielder to have the same taper in both sides you that’s what you have to do. If you try it you will see it works. By positioning the log at double the distance what you do is to cut half of the taper in one side so that when you position it at 50 mm you cut the other half in the other side. If you place the log at 50 mm to start with you will cut the whole taper in only one side.
