By petition of some viewers I finally made a video showing how I transport and store my inflatable boat. I go over where I store it, the tools I use for that, the way it fits on my car, alternative inflatables for folks who have small cars and all that jazz. Hope you guys enjoy this video and find it informative.

Hello Erick. I came across your channel while researching inflatable boats and you have really helped me in making a some informed decision as to choice of boat and motor. I'm not that much interested in boating at the moment, the boat would be a mode of transport to get my family and equipment to our camp site. We live in New York and since the coronavirus my family had been looked indoors. I have a son 3 years old 4 in the summer and needed to find ways to keeping him engaged, he has no siblings or family close by so his only contact is with me and mom.. Long story not very short we took up camping and light overlanding and hi loves it we've visited some amazing areas in NY and a few surrounding states but we've been limited to car or foot access areas. This season planning our getaways have become a lot more difficult as more families are hitting the trails and it's impossible to reserve sites not booked a year in advance unless it's on the water, boat access only. I'm looking for a safe and reliable setup. Something capable or caring 3 to 5 people and a lot of gear, our campaign setup has evolved and grown over the past year, any input or advice would be much appreciated 👍🏿thanks for making these amazing videos man...

As for the engine, a simple 2-3hp outboard will get you places but not fast at all. A 6hp will be the same scenario. It is not until you get into 8-20hp that's when speed comes into play. I recommend at least a 9.8hp Tohatsu, 15-20hp max. I say Tohatsu because they are the cheapest and are very reliable. If you find a good deal on a Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha or Mercury go for it.

For a sedan you may wanna go with a Kaboat instead since those are far less wider but have some boating capabilities. Saturn VK380 or the Saturn SK396 are good examples. Some folks also opt for a trailer and that changes things. I once saw a guy at the lake with a Mazda MX5 Miata with a Uhaul trailer hitch and he hauled a trailer with it.

Those are some extremes that I have not experienced on this boat. I did experience it once on my old SK396 Kaboat. I had a Honda 2.3hp back then and I got flipped by a rogue wave. I was near the shore so I dragged the kaboat to land, gathered the belongings that were floating in the water, and thankfully I had my kayaking paddle then. The motor would not start so I use the paddle to get back to my camping site in Anclote Key.

After watching few of your video, I become fan of you. I want to buy a inflatable boat and you gave me a huge insight of inflatable boat. I saw you lay down outboard in your car. I saw some outboard level as "portable". Now I am thinking 2.5 to 3.6 hp for my 10 ft inflatable boat which mainly use for fishing. Roaming 2-3 km in a single trip. I would not invest $1000 or 1500 for this small outboard. I saw few of them in Amazon under $500. I am wondering if I can lay down small motor (2.5 or 3.6 hp; any of 2 strk or 4 strk) in my car without oil leaking. Appreciate your advice.
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for saying that I appreciate it. A 2 stroke motor can be laid down on any side. 4 stroke motor like my 6hp tohatsu can be laid down on one side only where the tiller handle is. Whichever motor you buy, look and see what side it can be laid down on. I've heard of 4 stroke motors that can be laid down on either side

@@ErickMartinSucre Ok thanks for the reply. One last question if you don't mind: is it "doable" to have to inflate and deflate each time you use it? I'm debating on getting a small trailer but it seems like it defeats the purpose of my whole idea of storing and transporting (without towing/parking). The reason I ask is I inflate and deflate SUPs and sometimes I wish I just had a fiberglass one but again-defeats the benefit of transporting and storing. Overall, would you say it's not a big deal to inflate each time?

Odd thing is their 9.6" is listed at 65lbs while their 11" is also listed at 65lbs. Looks like it took some strength to lift the one you had, I don't think I'm nearly as strong as you =p. Wondering how the flat bottom performs compared to the ones with a keel as well.
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 3 жыл бұрын
Hello there!! Unfortunately I have not tried it yet so I would not be able to say if its good or not. Even though it does not have a keel you could place a pool noodle down and when you inflate the floor the pressure creates a keel. Thats all I know about them.

I love the videos and appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I'm very interested in buying an inflatable boat for my family of 4 so we too can enjoy the outdoors. We are in BC, Canada and can only use this in the summer months. I noticed you lay your outboard lying down flat in your car, does that create any issues with the fluids in the outboard? I'm new this and still in the research stage of identifying what size/capacity will be best for us. Thanks and look forward to many more informative videos from you. If you do get a chance, would appreciate if you create a video on best to keep your outboard in top running shape. any particular rules you follow before/during/after use; also using it after a prolong break e.g. 4-6 months. Finally, some general maintenance to maintain your outboard well. Thank you once again!
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for leaving a comment and question. I have several videos showing you how to maintain your outboard for the most post. I'll send you those individually. I have a 2018 Tohatsu 6HP 4 stroke and it can be laid down on the tiller side and it won't spill the contents that way. Whatever brand of outboard you buy it has a specific side it can be laid down on and in some cases some models can be laid on either side. I know that the new 2020 Tohatsu 6hp models can be laid down on either side. For a family of 4 a 13 foot long inflatable with a 15hp outboard will do great.

@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre Жыл бұрын
Well, after any of my trips, once I come out of the water, I deflate the boat and place it in the car. Most of the time I leave the boat in the car and only take the electronics out once I get it because I am too tired to clean it at the time. I usually wait until the next day to take it out of the car, inflate it, and then rinse it out with water. Once it is rinsed, I take an old dry towel and dry the entire boat. After that, I roll it up and place it on the handcart for storage.

Why can you only lie the outboard down on one side or the other? For a 9.8BS Tohatsu, is that any different than your 6 HP?
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 4 жыл бұрын
I can only imagine because of the way it's built. The instructions state to only lay on the side of the tiller. I placed it on the wrong side once and some oil got into the carburator. It took forever to get started again. I used to own a 9.9 Mercury and I laid it on the wrong sire and oil spilled out and got insde the pistons. I had to remove the spark plugs and pull on the starting cord to make it spit out the oil. That one took longer to clean out than the Tohatsu 6hp.

what is your thought on foldable boats?
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 4 жыл бұрын
I've seen videos of those foldable kayaks but have not had a chance to try them. I have also seen videos of boats that are half foldable rib and half inflatable and those are really cool looking. I myself will stick with inflatables mainly because ease of use and cost.

Eric...what’s your opinion on some of the cheap Chinese “knockoffs” that are out there? I bought a Chinese-made Yiwu Hider 10.8 aluminum floor inflatable boat that seems really solid, takes up to an 18 HP outboard (according to the transom tag anyway...I’d never put something that heavy on it)...only issue I have is getting it registered. Turns out, the HIN number on the transom tag is 13-digits instead of the standard 12-digits! Now I have to get the boat inspected before I can register it...ugh! Got it for around $650 so, felt it was a lot of boat for that price...it is but, not sure if it’s worth it...thoughts?
@ErickMartinSucre
@ErickMartinSucre 4 жыл бұрын
Well if you manage to get it registered I'll say it is a good deal. I only have experience with Saturns that are made in Korea. I had to use a bill of sale they provide and the receipt to get it registered.

Erick Martin Sucre yeah...I bought it off of eBay. Have a country of origin document and what amounts to an eBay receipt for the boat. It’s a pretty nice boat for what I paid for it. Actually already took it out off the coast of Maine while on vacation! Have a 55-lb thrust electric trolling motor and deep cycle marine battery that I used to power it. Worked great! No issues. North Atlantic is a pretty tough test...although I NEVER strayed more than 50 yards offshore and only used it in perfect calm weather. Life jackets always!

Erick Martin Sucre sorry it was not to criticize but to help improve. Hope you did not mind. Btw, I could not find your model on boatstogo, they don’t carry it anymore it seems. May I ask you what is the pump model and wheels that you have? I would like to buy one of these inflatable boat but there are so many models. We are a family of three and would like to have something easy to carry when going camping with the fifth wheel. I was thinking of a 12 or 13’ with a Tohatsu 9.8. I like that yours is not as narrow at the front. It is shorter overall but more room inside it seems. My wife is kinda of against but hope to convince her. For that I need to make sure she has enough space ;-) Any thoughts you can share for a newbie? I am in Coral Springs, FL. Sorry for all the questions.
