I did a quick bit of analysis of what the average manager points for each team would have been so far, so assuming a teams form reflects their performance so far, these should be the kind of points you can expect from each team (against the average opponent). I factored in all the win, draw, goal, clean sheet 5-difference bonus etc., and basically I think the 5-place bonus makes very little difference (since there’s very little chance of beating a 5-place better team), and it seems you’re way better off just going for Liverpool/Arsenal during a good fixture run. Yes but this doesn’t factor teams going on hot streaks/cold streaks. If a team in the bottom half of the table starts playing well, there is a lot of upside for picking those managers, particularly if you’re chasing.

Btw: win against a team placed 5 positions above is worth at least 18 points: - 6 for „standard” win - 10 extra for the position difference - at least 2 for goals (if you win e.g. 2:1 --> if you won 1:0 you have 3 additional point: 1 for goal and 2 for clean sheet)

I feel the prices for managers are somewhat academic considering the maximum is 1.5m. The chip alone will outscore the majority of non-captained players so you're always going for the best option even if it means spending an extra 1m or so. Going with the risky option seems appealing to gain +16 points for the win as it doesn't seem insurmountable to beat a team 5 places higher these days.

I absolutely hate this chip. It makes all the cup competitions a lottery as sooner or later you’ll come up against someone whose playing it when you’re not. It ruins head to head leagues for the same reason. Overall rank will mean nothing once it’s in play as there’s a possible 50 point swing involved.

McKenna at Ipswich is the one to go for i think. IF, only IF Ipswich is still in the relegation fight, and the teams they are playing don't have much to play for...their last 3 fixtures are. GW36 Brentford (Home), GW37 Leicester (Away), GW38 West Ham (Home). Brentford have terrible away form. Leicester might be relegated by GW37. West Ham is unlikely to be fighting for relegation or anything to play for. So 2/3 (Brentford and West Ham) of the games would be good for the 10pt league table bonus. Both should be safe by then and unlikely to have anything to play for and both are home games.

My instinct is that it is almost certainly optimal to target teams with games against teams 5+ places above them, especially if they are underperforming their expected points total. The probability of either a draw or a win for those teams in those games, combined with the bonus points, is going to mean a much higher expected return from the assistant manager. Considering also that the probability of losing for a higher placed team is still going to be 15-30%.

One injury would probably be enough to cause them a problem. Chris Wood. Their defence is rock solid and I can't see that changing, but they do have problems scoring goals and wood's form is getting them out of trouble there. Could see them drawing a lot of games if he was to be injured and lose form.

​​@@adking18We don't struggle to score goals. We've only failed to score 3 times this season. We're very clinical when we create chances. We just don't create as many chances as other teams because we're not trying to create a volume of chances. We're trying to draw the opposition into traps to create fewer but higher quality chances. Then, once we've scored, we prioritise shutting up shop over grabbing a 2nd or 3rd. Admittedly, an injury to Wood would be a bummer, but we've not been relying on him for goals as much recently as we were earlier on in the season. We're probably buying more back up for him in this window as well. Nuno also has a great record for injuries (both here & at Wolves). He manages his players far better than most. So, Wood's unlikely to pick up an avoidable injury in training or from playing when he's fatigued or carrying a knock (ala Saka at Arsenal) . Of course, you can't avoid impact injuries on the pitch, but they're not actually as common as those other injuries from mismanagement. Striker is the only position we lack real depth. We're not dropping away. Arsenal & Liverpool have far more to worry about than us re: injuries & fatigue with their congested fixture lists. An injury to Salah or Ødegaard will hurt them as much as an injury to Wood would hurt us.

Hi Andy do you know if the 5 league place rule is at time of kick off in each game? The league is obviously always changing and so many teams are on similar points. If so you wouldn’t know if your manager was playing a team 5 places above etc when selecting manager

As an interesting comparison, - Everton drew three games in a row from 16-18 against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City and would have scored 29 points with the table bonus. From 17-19, Liverpool beat Tottenham 6-3, Leicester 3-1 and West Ham 5-0 and would have scored 34 points.without the table bonus. Having checked the stats, In 120 matches where a team played opposition 5 places higher in the table. Wins 21(18%) Draws 35 (29%) Losses 64 (53%) To me, it's like Salah captain. Best to go with Slot.

not liking this chip at all. firstly fpl is a game based on players, looking at form, fixture, data etc and backing players rather than teams. This chip is about backing results, its more like sleeper style games than fpl. If they wanted to add something new there are plenty of player based chips they could have added that would be more in line with the game. if the idea is you are managing a team of players then i dont see how this chip fits in. in real football terms it would be like saying to a manager 'place 3 bets on football results and that counts towards your teams score in the league'. i get that its a game and not meant to be in anyway realistic to actually managing a team but this chip really doesnt fit the style of the rest of the game imo 2nd it locks you in for 3 weeks and blocks other chips, this requires a lot more planning. have no problem with planning in advance but with this chip if you want to go for the bigger points and back a low team against someone 5 places above it is pretty hard to do well in advance. Not only do you need the team you are backing to stay low in the table but you need the other teams to stay above. sure you can say the likes of southampton and leicester will be at least 5 places below Liverpool, arsenal etc but chances of that paying off are v slim if you use chip then. The gap between clubs like palace, whu etc and teams like The fact that there are so many variables in backing lower teams in advance combined with the need to free up money to get a manager in, potentially drop a treble up on a team that you might want, need to use transfers if you want to change managers, and have to find a 3 week window in which you cant use any other chip. It makes the whole thing just seem too much effor for a chip that doesnt really fit to the rest of the game style anyway
