If you are able to care for yourself, make breakfast, shower, simple tasks, stay at hone and bring care in as needed. You may eventually need assisted living but if you can get along at home with daily help you are better off. I downsized 6 years ago to a condo in same area my late husband and I lived in for 40 years. Small condo building but wide range of ages. Depressing in assisted living, always someone going to the hospital and not coming back.

In NJ and NYS, Assisted Living settings, there are levels of care. At the highest level, there is often little difference with LTC.
@ValleySeniorAdvisors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Jane! It's also similar in Arizona where the highest levels of care provide care that you would get from LTC

This is a year ago; I wonder what inflation has done to those prices. And what about care for dementia patients? Neither description fits for dementia. Please address this.
@ValleySeniorAdvisors Жыл бұрын
Hi @virginiamoss7045! Thanks for the comment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the inflation rate for Medical Care Services was 2.1% in 2023. Surprisingly this is lower than average, and much lower than the spike we saw back in 2020 (5.4%). Nursing homes and most assisted living communities can accommodate dementia patients. They would receive a higher level of care which would be reflected in the monthly rate.

@@ValleySeniorAdvisors How much higher rate for dementia?
@ValleySeniorAdvisors Жыл бұрын
@virginiamoss7045 it will depend on the community, but dementia care is among the highest levels of care that communities offer. It will be at the high end of the range.

@@ValleySeniorAdvisors Thanks. As I fear dementia is my future, I guess I am screwed. My brother has been diagnosed with dementia and our father had Alzheimer's. My father had money and was able to pay top dollar, but still was not well taken care of. We don't have any more than would carry us through retirement with no special needs. What are people to do? Almost no one has the money to cover this.
@ValleySeniorAdvisors Жыл бұрын
@virginiamoss7045 You're right, Memory Care can be very expensive. There are some options through your state Medicaid program if you qualify financially. It's also a good idea to be proactive if you start to recognize signs of dementia. It may be possible to slow its progression.

@leahpeleah1394 It's pretty sad how new CNA'S have no compassion and don't care about the elderly like us older ones do.
@brandyhuffman8672 Жыл бұрын
@leahpeleah1394 I could tell horror stories for hour's on assisted living and nursing homes, worked both 23 yrs, I am still a CNA at 46yrs old because I love Elderly and respect Elderly people, until everyone that wrote this story and commented, you guys have no idea how it feels to be defended in Healthcare, working with the elderly everyday has taught more love compassion, assisted living and nursing homes are a broken system, one these days, I want to write a book on how our frail elderly population is treated as dollar signs instead a loving Human being.

Do ASSISTED LIVING hire registered nurses

Hi @hexebarya7395 ! Not usually - typically assisted living communities hire certified caregivers.

@ValleySeniorAdvisors Жыл бұрын
@hexebarya7395 I am not familiar with Grandison Nursing but it looks like they are a staffing company. They help nurses find employment opportunities. If you are interested in Assisted Living or Nursing Care I would be happy to help you find one! Our phone number is 480-331-8855. You can also email us at office@valleysenioradvisors.com

Care in a SNF is NOT provided by RNs! There is an RN on Record who can be called on in a crisis. More often there are LPNs who are called when a fall or injury occurs which is OFTEN due to the neglect in these facilities. LPNs administer medications, but LPNs or RNs are not providing any care! Those of us who have spent years in SNF caring for our loved ones know!
