Its especially interesting because he has darkvision. Dark vision is basically in black and white. Being cursed to avoid light literally puts him in a position where he would normally never get to see color.

I've nevr thought about this! Although, he spent his night hunting in the city, where there is artificial light (torches, lamps, or magic lights).... but still, all the colours of the world would be muted. The only bright colours he'd know would be those of bright cloth and paintings.

I'm glad that's not a gameplay mechanic, incidentally. Imagine if every time you explored a dark place, your darkvision characters cast everything in black and white in their line of sight when you're playing as them, so you have to bring out the torches which immediately paint everything nearby in warm colors.

It sounds similar to what prisoners go through when they get out of jail. They're so used to seeing prison colors that when they're in the real world, other colors can seem overwhelming. It can take days or weeks to get used to them again.

This breaks my heart... he's so happy and overwhelmed, but we know Astarion is going to lose the sun again so very soon when he loses the tadpole. I hate how the only endings for him are either letting him taint his soul, or condemning him back to the shadows (unless we want to take over the cult ourselves and control the tadpoles, but in that case he'd be our slave, basically) and the game's writers didn't give us a way for him to at least stay like he was at the start of Act 1. He won't even be able to swim in a river anymore.

One of the ending choices for his romance is to go looking for a way to restore his ability to be in the sun again. In the world of Baldur's Gate, there's gotta be something that can do something as simple as that.

yeah Choshako is right. In dnd we have at least 2 options - make him alive again and Wish spell - the most powerful one.

pray for dlc to get 9th level spells. True Resurrection (if it's a timed quest, because the limit is 200 years) or Wish can fix him

Well I am wondering if Selune could help us with this. After all we did so much good, save her daughter, important cleric and help convert Shar cleric back to Selune. I know she don't like undead but helping one return back to life should be something that she approves.

@@MurakamiTenshi The fact that the limit is 200 years and that's pretty much how long Astarion has been a vampire sounds very deliberate. Assuming he is rounding it up because it is very close to 200 anyway, this could work. I wonder if he would want to become mortal again, though... But it does sound like a trade-off that the game would propose. Walk under the sun but age, stay in the shadows but don't age. I wonder what Astarion would choose.

a really good ending for Astarion is to heal him of his vampirism. Alas, this is not possible in this game

I don’t actually play the game so sorry if this is wrong but I saw someone else comment on another astarion that they headcanon you can use some kind of wish spell or wish related item in the game to cure him….

@@Possibly_Olivia People are theorizing this because this game is in the Dungeons and Dragons universe, and we know that possibilities exist in that universe even if the game itself didn't give them to us. We are hoping for DLC.

@@Possibly_Olivia I think it would be more of an expansion than a DLC, in that case. And honestly, it would make sense, a sequel expansion that lets us explore a new adventure, letting us either continue from where we left off (depending on which ending you chose, obv) or letting us start with a default set of choices, but getting to make a level 12 character from scratch.

Haven't played the game, but I'm reading through the history. He's a vampire, and this is not a spoiler. He doesn't burn in the sun during the events of the game because of something that could be a spoiler, so I shouldn't say it unless you interested to know.

Not a true vampire, just a vampire spawn. Basically the servants true vampires create for themselves, their slaves, or, as Astarion put it, "...as a vampire spawn you're less than a slave, you're a puppet. The master controls you. You can't resist a direct order... your body moves by itself." And "All of a vampire's weaknesses, but few of their powers."
