Everyone loves a silver birch DB5, but is this an over hyped classic GT living off its bond credentials or is it worthy of its fame? Jonty finds out!
As always, a big thank you to our good friend Pete aka / 2manycars_official

Lovely example BUT the left spot light is wobbling loose at 7.17. Handbrake/brake fluid light is also on. Usually that is because the cork float in the master cylinder has stopped floating.
@2manycars713
@2manycars713 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, I’ll get the cork float looked at. The headlight wobbling is probably due to it being ragged about all day haha

@@2manycars713 A nicely set up DB5 is a wonderful thing and yours looks lovely. I have had mine for 17 years now. If the fluid level is ok in the brake master reservoirs lift the lid assembly completely out and then put it back in and that normally allows the cork to float for a while and the light will go off....... Enjoy!

Just a minor point , with all of the engine performance upgrades it seems a shame to choke its breathing with that drilled steel cover wrapped around the air filter . It was not a standard fitting , remove it and then re-adjust the mixture in the carburettors . Then take it for another test drive. I know you will likely want to thank me 😁😁😁.

There's a company called Superformance which builds 1:1 copies of some Shelby Cobras, Ford GT40s, and a few others, they can either build you a car which is exactly like the original or upgrade it to whatever spec you want. The reason behind it is that the original cars are to expensive to be driven, not just because of the value but they are also pieces of history and the replicas only cost somewhere around 150,000$ and especially the upgraded ones are built to be driven... Do you think the DB4/DB5 should be put back into production in a similar manner? I always put them somewhere in my top 10 list of cars but judging from this review I think even if I have hundreds of millions I wouldn't buy one because I don't want a historic GT car, I reckon for the money I could buy 10 cars which are more fun to drive. But what if they start building perfect replicas and upgrade them handling and power wise or rebuilt the raceversions with some upgrades? I think it would be much more interesting than most new 200-300,000$ cars on the market but I guess it's unlikely to happen and even at "just" 200-300k$ meaning less than 20-30% of the original ones it would have to offer a lot more than the looks to make me buy one...

It would much more affordable than the restauration itself, Like the Alfa Romeo GTV from Alfaholics. A very good restmood kind of car, I reckon it would be very much appreciated.

@@2manycars713 From the Superformance homepage: The GT40 continuation is built to exacting standards - in fact over two thirds of the rolling chassis's parts are interchangeable with that of an original car, including the 'monocoque" style chassis. I'm not talking about replicas.
