Have followed The Villa since the FA cup win in 1957. Can you believe when they played my home town club Peterborough United FA cup replay I think in 1961-62 I was in the Holt End and there was a crowd of over 64,000.

Back in about 1975 I remember taking a girl to a Villa match and we stood near the top of the Holte End. She was only little and I was a bit worried because there was quite a crowd. We scored after about a minute and she simply disappeared, taken by the crowd and swept down towards the bottom. I was worried sick and tried to try and make my way through the crowd to find her. Eventually I found her as fans basically picked her up and passed her back up. When I asked if she was ok all she kept saying was "again again again" LOL. Villa till I die.

I went to my first game as a 10 ten year old in 1960. Seeing the ground as it was in the 1960's brings back a lot of fantastic memories and it's great to see the progression over the last 60 years to what we have now. With the new stadium plans again improvements will be made. There is nowhere like Villa Park now we just need a team to match the magnificent stadium.

Before ground safety was such a priority, as it should be. I stood on the Holte End when they would cram 24,000 onto it !! One blooming stand, it was an experience now denied to fans who have never experienced the sheer raw excitement of the terraces.

As a oxford fan had the pleasure of being in the holte end, think it was 91 season against arsenal it was 2 1 villa platt scored the winner,think they could of won the league that season,funny story was the father who took us all that day 5 kids was a baggies fan,the kid was a villa fan so we all went what a day 👍

Started going to the matches in the mid-sixties and remember the thrill of when the floodlights became A ... V! Milk crates, rattles, scarves and oh, so many glorious, and not so glorious memories. 50,000 plus crowds, horrific pitches and plenty of fabulous goals and players.

These old grounds are the best. Modern architecture to don’t get football. The new stadia...especially the ones by Populous (We,bely, Emirates Etihad, Spurs, 12/14 Russia World Cup stadiums...soulless piles of misery in comparison. Very sad.

Does anyone know the name of the stand was previous to Doug Ellis Stand? I thought it was called the Witton Lane Stand, and the North Stand was called The Witton End.
@nigelparker81805 жыл бұрын
Paul Cox You are quite right. It was and is called by most Villa fans The Witton Lane stand, and right again the North Stand was an open terrace called the Witton End. I remember being a 6 or 7 year old in the early 70's, my Father always used to take me on the Witton End and my eyes would pop out of my head with ambition to join the swirling masses opposite in the Holte. Needless to say, I made it. Now in my early 50's I am more than happy to view the match from the Doug Ellis upper ( I can only bring myself to call it that now since Doug is gone)

@@nigelparker8180 Thanks Nigel, my first memories were back in 72/73 season when dad took me to see Blackpool I think. We sat in the old Trinity Road stand, freezing cold, watching a boring nil all draw. Although the old Trinity Road stand may have had nice old architecture, the new Trinity Rd stand looks fantastic to me, and Villa Park is a great place to visit even when its empty. UTV.

@@Mediumal Sorry? Was that an attempt at humour? Did you not get that I was actually stating the Original Trinity Road was a magnificent stand?
@rustyshackleford49183 жыл бұрын
In fairness, I'm inclined to agree.... Whilst the new Trinity Road Stand is an impressive structure in it's own right, it has kept next to none of the character of the old stand which really was iconic. All the while, the 70's eyesore of the North stand remained and should have been erased from history and started again as a priority over the Trinity

As no-one has responded in 7 months to you. I will tell you. It was an F A Cup semi final that was being played at Villa Park. V P would have been chosen as it was 2 midland clubs contesting the semi final, although Albion are less than 3 Mike's away, less provable as the crow flies. In any case, more semi-finals have been played at Villa Park than anywhere else. They've actually cheapen education 'The' cup final bhai now having semi finals also played there.Of course it should be an honour & a privilege for any club to grace Villa Park. Aston Villa F C - 'The' founders of league football & football pioneers ! 💪👌. U T V (Up the Villa) 'The' greatest club on earth.
