Seriously what an amazing performing tyre, I have been riding ADV bikes for 35 years and not seen a tyre perform like it, the cottage in the snow basically confirms on how good it is. Proof is in the footage of it being used in all different situations.

It always amazes me, how you still get individuals complaining... I mean, how hard are you driving your machine in horrible conditions?! People sound like they are dragging knees at 100Km/hr (60miles/hr) in rain, snow slush and mud. Heck, I know I am not a top rider and that there are some really good riders out there... but a review like this, shows that the tyre does incredibly well even when ridden at above average pace and conditions, by a competent rider.

Great review, you vary riding styles over the same terrain. Super helpful, sometimes I'm out for the day and sometimes camping for a week and you're one of the few reviewers that makes note of the different riding styles we use in each of those situations. Fantastic review, Kyle, looks like Dunlop has a winner on its hands. Like you said in your closing comments, you threw every type of terrain it seems at this tire and it performed remarkably well. I don't even own a bike yet--just getting the bug again at 59 after growing up riding dirt bikes in the Midwest, and I'll just get a small dual sport (like a Honda CRF 250L Rally with ABS) to have some fun on, and these tires look like a serious option to consider, along with the Mitas E-07's. Good video and information. I had pretty much made up my mind to get these for my KLR but when you mentioned the tie in with Falkin Wildpeak, that clinched it. I run the Falkins on my 4 X 4 truck and have excellent on and off-road traction. Plus the Falkin Wildpeaks are severe winter weather rated. I'm also glad you did slow speed uphill and downhill testing. Speed can compensate for a marginal design but speed doesn't matter to a superior tire. The sidebiters on the tire are also a Falkin Wildpeak carry over.

Thank you for the review of these tyres. I'd seen some great reviews online before buying these and took the plunge. At the fitting centre, they basically tried to convince me that I'd bought the wrong tyre for use here in the UK. I ride all year round on a KTM 790 as it's my only means of transport through all weather. They really put the fear of God in me that through the winter coming up that these tyres were too hard (and old-fashioned) and would struggle with grip. I commute mainly but have to traverse some pretty uneven sometimes muddy single track tarmacked countryside roads. This review has made me feel a whole lot better, especially as they really weren't cheap here. Thanks again for giving me some confidence back.

Thanx, Kyle! You and the Chaparral team have the most comprehensive tire tests on the 'Tube, IMHO. I've been looking for tires to replace the OEM Bridgestone Battlax's on My V-Strom 650. Good road/rain tire, 10K mi on the rear at the wear bars, but they never were confidence inspiring in gravel or sand. I've watched all of your videos on the MotoZ Tractionator GPS' and RallZ's and the Trailmax Mission video suite. I now have moved the Dunlops to #1 on my "podium;" #2 Mitas E-07+, #3 MotoZ Tractionator GPS. The E-07+'s have spotty availability, and I've been satisfied with Dunlop street tires on other bikes in the past, and I don't have any experience with MotoZ, but was willing to try them until the TrailMax came out. Fixed income, but this spring, the "Tire Jar" will be full and I'll be placing an order with Chaparral for a F/R set of Dunlop TrailMax Missions!

Great review Kyle! Know the areas in the vid well! Local guy too. Teneres been a Pirelli scorpion footed bike. Theyve done well off road (obviously) and well on road. Though at a interval of around 1200 miles, its time for a change. After 1k they get less predictable off road and on. Your vid has confirmed TMM's should be a good match for my riding with good mileage as a bonus. At least for now as the Tenere has been doing duty as a commuter with the cold and rainy weather, I prefer not to take the street bikes out in. Looking forward to ripping a set by next week! 👍

I'm running Continental Twinduros right now but I wanted something smoother and more pavement oriented for my KLR that's 90% pavement riding. I just need something that'll stay solid in gravel and I also like the longevity of the Trailmax Mission. I'm definitely going to switch to these as I'm impressed by their performance on/off road. Adventure/dual sport is always a compromise of some type. Much like the KLR the TrailMax seems to not excel at anything, but it'll do whatever you ask of it. Great, honest review. It's sealed the deal for me and I can't wait to try them!

Have you guys ever thought about hosing down an empty parking lot with a tanker truck and putting the tires through a slalom, brake and turn course? I know it doesn’t rain but 3 days a decade 😄 down there...but here in the PNW, we could use the data!? Right now the Dunlop is on the top of my list, followed closely by the Mitas E07. Actually... Yes! Honda has a test track here in Fontana, CA that we have thought about asking to borrow. The issue then comes in trying to change 30 sets tires in a day... and as the day warms up and cools off the "conditions" will change and the test will be insightful, but not totally accurate. Not that our current tests are as the conditions on our roads / trails change too. Well... they are really similar and you WILL go the same places on BOTH tires... just 3 to 4 times further on the Mission tire. If you want an AGGRESSIVE look go with the AX41. If you want mileage go with the Mission. Thanks for watching, Kyle

First us here in wet boreal areas I think we need a more aggressive front tyre if you go often in the forest roads. @@AltoPrado 7k miles later, wear profile is excellent, I expect it to get 9-10k miles before changeout. It is not a true dirt tire and performs more like a 70/30 in very nasty offroad conditions which shouldn't surprise most. Grip in the wet is OK but not as good after you've scrubbed a few thousand miles off it. It will get you where you wanted to go though, i've ridden this tire through every condition nature can throw at me (snow, heavy rain etc). If you want a high mileage ADV touring tire with some off-road ability this is a great one. If you need better grip off road then you'd best get a more aggressive tire. The missions tread block pattern just won't shed dirt well enough when you hit slick/ sticky mud.

@@AltoPrado Anakee wild has a much shorter life span versus the Missions, the tire compound is softer than Dunlop's. You may get about 4500 miles out of it at the most. The tread pattern does work better in dirt versus the Missions, but you'll be changing them more often. Michelin's tires are quite expensive lately. :( FYI I've logged 12k miles on the 850 so far.

Great tire. The 5 ply tread and 3 ply sidewalls make it a stiff carcass and a beotch to install by hand. I left mine in the sun for a few hours and still a tough go. If you run tubes and may have to do a trailside repair for a flat you may want to reconsider.

I’ve been running these for about 2000 miles. Most of those miles are one the highway at 70-85mph. I off road when I can. Yesterday I did about 55 miles of off road in some challenging terrain. I have never wanted anything more with the Trailmax. They corner in asphalt & the grip in sand, mud, & rock. I am able to navigate tight turns on gravel & securely brake down loose hillsides. Thanks so much for a GREAT review & outstanding recommendation. When I do the COBDR I will throw on a set of the RallZ Motoz. But for my daily commute & off road fun I’m thrilled with these tires!

What (another) great review! So, it's been 4 months since this test. Are you still running these tires? If so you should have made them bald by now; what kind of mileage did you get? I run an 04 V-Strom 1000 really aggressively on the street, and a little timidly on the dirt (because I have a balding 805 on the back). What kind of mileage should I expect?

Thanks Kyle. I just spooned on a set of these Dunlops (too soon to give impression) at 55k miles. My favorite 50/50 to date is the Mitas E-07 on my Tiger 800xc, but rain grooves were SCARY AS HELL in California -- loved them off-road though and even on-road ridden aggressively they stick. The Motoz Tractionator GPS' were very good too, but often felt vague, especially in aggressive cornering and the front pushed gravel/sand more than I like -- rear got squirmy at about 25% left. The GPS's did however survive a long time and deal with massive rocks very well. Shinko 705's were great on-road (short life, but better than TKC-80's and super cheap to replace). However, Shinko's proved they were just 80/20's off-road, so don't expect more than basic dirt or gravel. Tried some Avon TrekRider's and they sucked on-road and off-road. TKC-80's weren't great for my riding style, and absurdly short-lived. The stock Bridgestones were 90/10 tires -- why the hell would the XC model come with 90/10 tires -- Shinko's were way better. So, I hope the Trailmax Mission's are finally the 50/50 I'm looking for.

Great feedback / overview Rhunyen! Your experiences pretty much sum up just exactly what I have been showing in these Adv tire tests. I do think this TrailMax Mission tire will quickly become a fan favorite. I just works. I tried to make it be an 80/20 tire... but it has proven itself as a true 50/50 tire despite my abuse. Really not a bad choice of tyre I like the block pattern on the front tyre. I reckon the back tyre looks a bit or a lot like the Metzler Karoo which I thought sucked on the dirt and wore out super quickly. The other point I'd like to mention is the fact that even road tyres with reduced air pressure get going alright on the dirt it's when it comes to stopping they fail miserably usually. I loved your review on the Michelin Annakee Wild what a great tyre and your review was spot on

Thank you for watching! The Karoo 3 is very rough riding and has much vibration. It is an aggressive tire that works well off-road. The TrailMax Mission tire has a very mild and smooth street character but performs similar to the Karoo 3 when the going gets rough. Great job as always Kyle and I think these are my next tires after I wear down my 804/805 combo on my AT - They're nice, but a bit loud on the tarmac (most of my driving since I commute) and I'm thinking they'll be done for at around 4000 miles. Given your wear and mileage on that KTM so far, how many miles would you estimate they're useful for? (knowing of course KTMs can sometimes chew through tires faster than other bikes due to HP). P.S. - I'd love to have a riding area like that :) CA is a lovely state.

I have about 2.5k miles on these Mission tires now... and have "Tried to Make them Fail" to be a 50/50 tire as they are so round and smooth... BUT they just Work! I am thinking 5 to 6k for me in the rear on this tire will be about it. Silky smooth and works great off-road. Not bad!!! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

However I am looking into if the sizing is ok for my bike. Manual calls for 80/100R21 51Pand 120/80R18 62P. The Dunlps closest fit are:: 90/90R21 and 120/90R21, what do I expect if get these sizes? Great question! The center strip on the GPS does create a compromise in traction in some terrains. I do think that this Mission tire is a little more aggressive than the GPS. All other aspects they are very similar. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

Great review Kyle...Thx! My biggest conundrum is wet tarmac vs deep mud performance. I'd rather keep my line on the highway at higher speeds in the wet, and have a hard time in the deep mud, then slide out on the wet tarmac, and move well in the mud. So 80/20 seems the choice say the Anakee Adventure for best tarmac wet grip and overall good off road (not great in mud and front tire poor in deep and), and this Dunlop for overall, but risky on wet tarmac.

The Anakee Adventure took 2nd place overall (the Shinko 705 came in first) so yeah we'd says it's a good choice--although due to our location here in Southern Calfifornia we don't get much rain so we didn't get to adequately evaluate all the tires in wet tarmac/deep mud conditions. Wet tarmac performance is a biggy for me as many times while touring, especially in mountain range areas, heavy down pouring rain, single lane two way traffic, pushing speeds from behind and in the opposite direction, cold temps, side winds, sometimes gusting, reduced visibility, nowhere to pull over (or simply mustkeep moving) and so on, every molecule of tire grip matters for keeping upright and in control, especially in turns and while braking. 😳

Would you recommend TKC-70 ROCKS in the back and TRAILMAX MISSION in the front for a R1200GS-A? and lastly... Hello Juan, unfortunately we did not test the TKC70 Rocks for this series so we can't speak on the combination you mentioned. Also with the minor amount and infrequent rain we get here in southern California we weren't able to adequately test all the tires for wet weather conditions. In Italia sono disponibili da poco tempo e costano tantissimo. Ma oltre ad essere bellissime esteticamente sembrano davvero performanti. Ho già montato l'anteriore al posto delle TKC70 e la tenuta ed il grip su asfalto sia asciutto che bagnato è la stessa. Considero le TKC70 delle ottime gomme stradali e per un off molto leggero, quindi sapere che le Mission che sono molto più tassellate hanno un'aderenza su asfalto pari alle Continental è già un ottima cosa. Monterò il posteriore delle dunlop a fine mese, ma sono certo che saranno delle ottime gomme. Kyle, perchè non fai una comparativa tra le Mission e le TKC80 (o le mitas 09 o anche le motoz tractionator GPS)? Grazie comunque per i tuoi video sempre molto interessanti ;)

How would you compare this to the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR? Watching the vids, the conditions seemed pretty different, but the STR struggled in the sand for sure. Would you say the Missions are better off road in all cases? Thanks for the great content!

Yes, the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tire outperformed the Rally STR in All Cases except how it felt on the highway. The STR was soft, smooth and gave feedback from the road unlike the Mission tire. The STR is really a Street tire that can go off-road where as the Mission is a true 50/50 tire. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

@@chaparralmotorsports Just wet asphalt on the rear Trailmax mission I here isn’t the best , but front fantastic due to dual compound ( but obviously both good off road , what about trail max mission front and AX41 rear ? I know the AX41 would be better for slippery asphalt if comes to that ? and I know the AX41 rear will only last roundabout as long as a Motoz Rallz rear ( but just had that with my M21 Rallycross it outlasted . A Motoz ADV , Desert HT and the Rallz. So that doesn’t bother me . I also just spooned on a GoldenTyre tyre GT723 rear with M21 front on one of my other bikes . Your opinion please on Trailmax front and AX41 rear ?

Mounting question. How stiff is this tire to mount/dismount? For bikes that still use tubes, a puncture means trailside work. My Shinko 804/805s are easy to spoon off, and put back on.
