I think the randomizer gives you the infinite keys as a way of insuring you can open all the chests if no one randomizes to a thief.

I love that just to add insult to injury, that Meteor tome also was effective on Beast Units as well as poisoning. Ah well, at least it didn't have any default crit rate.

the reason why the keys never end is because volke still can open doors and chests and you pay him 50 gold, so that takes priority over using the keys, that's why they never end
