Thank you for the video, I struggled a lot and the following worked for me. 1. Hard reset node 2. Wait for boot up. 3. Connect to node wireless via label on the back. 4. Set node as a node. 5. Node will reboot. 6. Open router and search for node. 7. Once node is found on wifi, plug in the router Lan to node wan. Icon on Wil change. Proceed. Setup worked for me.

Very good tutorial. Couldn't connect my Zenwifi XD4 (node) with my Asus AC-RT86u main router using wireless connection. Tried it with the ethernet cable on lan port 2, but no go. Thanks to your tutorial which says lan port 1 on both devices. That worked !! Thanks a lot.

Some observations & comments. First, you enabled Ethernet backhaul option & also ran in router/AP mode, a little different than most (i.e. router only) & seems Ethernet backhaul is generally disabled by default. You mention the loss of the 5Ghz band when one uses a dual band router (I used a RT-AC68U, older than yours, quite old really) as the Aimesh node & for Wi-Fi backhaul, it used the 5Ghz & I was "ok" with that as I need the smart devices out in the garage to maintain connectivity & most of the type of smart devices I am using only support 2.4 anyways. I do have a Firestick & an old laptop setup out there & I was curious if it was seeing the 5ghz from the new House router (GT -AX11000) which has significant increase in range. I am surprised in that it is performing excellent & both devices are on a 5Ghz network off the AiMesh "Garage node" which I am kind of surprised with, this would suggest it (the 5Ghz band on the Dual band RT-AC68U) is not exclusive to backhaul only & will still carry 5Ghz "Ac/N" traffic("Ax" I could see not being facilitated obviously)??? The AiMesh confirms the devices are connected via the "Garage node" on the Home router's interface that details all the connectivity in AiMesh. My gotcha while I was scouring my troubles was for whatever odd reason, when I reset my RT-AC68U, it did in fact comeback up in an older firmware (quite old actually) & I was under the assumption I was running the latest, once I realized that little oddity, I logged in (after another lobotomy reset) & re-flashed it up to latest firmware, then manually triggered it via the RT-AC68U's interface to become a AiMesh node & thus did not require a ethernet backhaul option (often many others report that to be the solution, using the WAN port on the AiNode). I did neither. Though really, ASUS should maybe tighten this all up, even their own KZbin tutorial is much less informative than this one for issues & solutions. There really should be no need for so many "ad-hoc" solutions.

For a less than $100 bucks I use two TP-Link powerline adaptors to backhaul my two nodes. (TL-PA9020P KIT). I have my main router upstairs, Asus zen wifi where my main Office PC is. Then for my family room node I use an Asus RT-AX58U which I run into a gigabit switch for all the entertainment ethernet devices Cable box, AV Receiver, CD & DVD Players etc. I have no issues streaming for TV, DVD and Music streaming. Then my other Zen WiFi node is in the master bedroom mostly for wireless phone and tablet use. I absolutely love the Asus router app which I mainly use from my iPad or iPhone. Tons of options, information and great for troubleshooting or tweakability of your home wifi system.

If wireless node won't add, use ethernet, and use the WAN port of the node for the uplink

Thanks for the video. I'm using an Lyra (primary) and a Lyra voice and wanna ad a GT6. All with ethernet backhaul. Is there an option to make the new GT6 as the primary node or do I need to start from scratch?

What is the difference between Bind the nodes vs roaming block list ? Currently I use Bind to ensure some wifi client won’t connect to nodes other than main router.
@EclipseReviews
@EclipseReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Bind is the best option as you said this will lock it to a specific device, like I want my WiFi 6 devices binded to my GT-AX11000. The Roaming Block list is a setting where you can add devices to be restricted from the roaming list. So the devices on the list will no longer have AiMesh roaming active. But what is strange is when applying a specific device to roaming block list it refers to Asus AiMesh will not trigger roaming, however device will do self roaming to a better mesh node when it finds a stronger signal. So binding is much better.

What happens when a Tri band aimesh with a dual band? Will I see a 5ghz channel 2 in the Wi-Fi list? Or will it limited to dual band? I’m using a ax11000 too and I’m happy to use 5ghz channel 2 for gaming only, I wish I can use that channel as well with aimesh.

When using the Asus AiMesh via WiFi connection it will use the 5Ghz channel for the AiMesh backbone connection, so you lose that channel for connecting devices. I connect both of my routers via ethernet connect using Powerline adapters.

I have the ASUS AX6000- dual band as the main router, it has 8 Ethernet ports and the AX92u tri-band as the node. Wirelessly connected. The AX92U uses one 5GHz for backhaul and it appears the AX6000 is multitasking with its 5GHz channel. I haven’t been able to determine if this means I’m losing performance on the node. Might try streaming 4K video on the node with Apple TV.

Hi, great video! I've managed to get the main router (TUF-AX5400) and node (RT-AX82U) to talk to each other 👍. How do I access the login of the node (RT-AX82U)? I keep getting the main router (TUF-AX5400) login instead. Any thoughts? Thanks 🙂

I think once it’s connected as node, there’s no way for you to access its GUI. All settings will need to be changed via the Main Router interface. You can only turn on and off the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi of the node in this GUI.

I just connected 2 RP-AX56s to my GT-AX11000 VIA ETHERNET, but it says neither one is connected via ethernet. Why? I am 100% sure of the connection. Operation mode is the default Wireless router mode / AiMesh Router mode. I tried to change it to AP / AiMesh but that borked my system, so I am back to Wireless router / AiMesh default. How do I enable ethernet backhaul?
@EclipseReviews
@EclipseReviews 2 жыл бұрын
You should see it enabled within the settings. Settings> (General)AiMesh > System Settings > Ethernet Backhaul Mode. The toggle switch should show enabled.

I tried many, may times to set this up using AC68 and AC86 and they find each other, but won't sync or complete the set up. I reset may times and started from scratch...nothing. They were side by side from each other.

@@Your_Delusiona1 I was able to make them finish the setup. Try running the setup from the tab within the router page called AiMesh..second tab on the left under General...click on "Add AiMesh Node".

If I was to pair the AX11000(main router) with the RT-AX88U using wired backhaul. Would this be a good set up? Will be able to connect to the WIFi6 network? Or is it better to just get a dual band as my node(satellite) even though I’m still using wired back haul. Thanks
@EclipseReviews
@EclipseReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Using the ethernet backhaul would be the best setup as you devices will then have more bandwidth on each of the routers. You can always setup a rule in the AX11000 AiMesh so that only you fastest devices always connect to it.

Does mesh works perfect with ither models like ax3000 or ax55 which supports ai mesh as it does with zen models. And which mesh is better asus or tplink?

Hi, just wanna ask for some help. can i connect a main router (RT-AX86U) LAN 1 port to a switch, then from the switch to a node (RT-AX92U) LAN1 port? Or must it be direct from main router LAN 1 port to the node LAN 1 port (no switch in between) ?
@EclipseReviews
@EclipseReviews 2 жыл бұрын
I have never used a switch in between them in theory it could work.
