ASUS Q551LN 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop Review

What's up KZbin, here is my full review on the all new ASUS Q551-LN. This is as 15" laptop that features an Intel Core i7-4510u clocked at 2.0GHz with turbo boost up to 3.1 GHz. 8GB of RAM that is expandable to 12GB. You get two graphic cards with this model, the first is an Intel HD 4400 and for your dedicated card you get a NVIDIA 840M with 2GB of VRAM. You get a nice 15" 1920 x 1080P Touchscreen IPS panel that looks great. You also get a nice amount of ports like 3 USB 3.0, HDMI port, Ethernet port, Headset/Mic combo jack, SD card reader. You also get Intel Wireless display ready, DVD drive, and a 1.0 MP webcam.

Thanks for the review. I just picked mine up and am getting used to it. I'm really particular about my touchpad settings and the included driver is very limited on what you can adjust on the touchpad. The Toshiba I bought six years ago had better customization, so hopefully Asus can get on the ball with a better driver with more advanced touchpad settings.

I picked up this laptop last week. I love it! The picture is beautiful, it's very powerful and the performance is well above my expectations. I've played a few games and it handles them very well. So far it's been Skyrim and H1Z1 with both at high settings. Thanks for this review as it assisted in my decision to buy!

I got this unit a couple of months ago, when it was on sale. It's one of very few laptops, below $1K, which have a separate graphics card. My experience aligns exactly with your observations. I love this unit! My only complaint... Linux has been unable to use the wireless card, so you can't run Linux on bare metal. You can run it very well inside VirtualBox, though.

Great video! And, I have a question about ram upgrade. When I opened the back cover, there is a metal case over the place where the ram should be. the case seems to be soldered on the board. How will I be able to add a new ram card?

Yes. this computer is excellent. I bought one 2 days ago. After much research (and almost deciding on a Dell all-in-one), I decided I liked the "flip over" so I have a laptop or a pad.

I got it today really like build quality. And screen i use for my elgato hd60 so i can watch my madden in 60 frames on KZbin. I have a question about how the fan i notice there isnt a place for the air to be pushed out or pulled in on the back of the laptop which is great in my opinion and was wonder if asus put it some were else because im seriously considering getting this laptop to replace my old laptop and tablet and was just curious about that either way ill probably still buy it but i just wanted to make sure the laptop stays cool enough for games even though the most ill play on it would be the sims games. It was money well spent! Handles games like a champ. WoW on ultra runs at around 30fps but still looks and runs awesome. I tweaked the settings and it looks dope and runs well above 60fps. FarCry blood dragon also looks and runs amazing (10x better than on PS3 at lowest setting). Those are pretty much the only games I got on there. It's a great laptop. The downside tho is that the display isn't that bright at highest setting, not that loud, and battery life is only like 4 hours or so, and that's not when you're gaming. Has a great 1080p crystal clear display. Don't know much about computers n shit but I know this is a good one and would def recommend it. Any questions let me know!

Do you think you can help me? I have this laptop and it wont let me use the microphone. I plug in Iphone headphones and it will play the audio but it doesn't pick up the microphone on the headphones. This laptop's built in microphone is really bad and barely picks anything up, and so i need a way have an external mic. Do you know anything about how to fix this or what's wrong?

Some reason online at Best Buy, they advertise the _"Q551LN-BSI708"_ model to have a Core i7-5500U processor. Interestingly, the exact same model in the store is advertised to have a i7-4510 in it. :( I am not sure, the model numbers are identical, I am not sure if it was a typo, but it sure is the first stand-out feature advertized.

umm sorry if dumb question or maybe in a way addressed in video but could this laptop play games that can handle ps4 and xbox one type of graphics/games at maybe like a smooth 30 or 60 frames a second on 720p possibly 1080p? In addition would it be alright lets say if i play *if it can handle ps4+xbox one games if not then ps3 or 360* for like 4-6 hours nonstop for example then the computer wont overheat or not really be close to overheating? Third *im a noob at this* but would i need the hdmi cable to have the laptop show off 1080p or does the laptop already do that by itself. fourth and FINALLY would i be able to in someway have the screen at 4k*laptop screen or Laptop connected to T.V. if I get some sort of accessory with it this question might be a bit farfetched but that would be great if i get answers on this before buying it thanks =P

I have this laptop but I'm going to return in. It's really slick looking, and I love the 2-in-1 design. The problem is that it's pretty underpowered by today's standards. This i7 has only 2 cores. two common problems with this laptop are that the screen will randomly get a purple tint to it, and the dvd drive will stop working. Luckily i still had my insurance for the laptop when the screen turned purple for mine, but the it was too late for the dvd drive.
