I love it, but I can already see that I am going to have to get use to the new Windows 8. but It is light years ahead of the 2006 Toshiba Satellite. The HD screen was a big selling point for this laptop. my old Toshiba had a 17' screen but the HD touchscreen is light years ahead.

kakarwt mmc Haven't really played much games on it as that's not the reason why I purchased it...But I did try out a few simple ones, and it had no problems...Not sure how it would handle demanding games like GTA though.

Great review. I didn't expect you to take it apart. Most people don't. Very helpful. I bought this laptop today @ $950.Best Buy seems to be selling mostly (U) / lower voltage CPU based laptops. My 3rd gen i7 was around $650. Very similar performance. Considering the upgrades involved (17" touchscreen, fingerprint scanner, backlit keyboard, etc...) I'm happy. I'll more then likely throw in an SSD.

The new model features a NVIDIA 840M which would perform much better than the Intel HD 4600. If you're looking for a gaming laptop for under $700 you can check out the Lenovo Y40. Thank you. :)

Amatullah Smith okay so check it out I was able to find pretty much the exact same thing at Costco for $999 the only different thing is it comes with a two terabyte rather than 1. I think that the company has upgraded this model and slightly change the model number because I cannot find the exact one he's reviewing anywhere either everytime I find one that's pretty much the exact same thing it always has a two terabyte rather than one.

A live and learn problem I've had with this laptop is the case and hinge near the cooling fan. the weight of the screen on the hinge wound up popping the screw out from under the pad and causing a little chunk of plastic to stop the cooling fan. Since the laptop was still under warranty, I took it to Best Buy's Geek Squad. The geeks ran a diagnostic and told me that there was no hardware issues just software issues. I'm now repairing the computer myself. also geek squad told me HP would also charge or return my laptop do to the hinge, and case separating. This laptop has been on my desk for the past 8 months with very limited movement. I would expect a stronger case for a 1000 dollar laptop.

+Frank Engberg We've had the exact same problem. The hinge broke separating the casing. I think this is a defect. HP or GeekSquad should pay. What use is the coverage if they wont fix obvious manufacturing problems as well.

Thank you for you review. I am in the market for a new laptop after my late 2008 MacBook Pro went down. I have heard many gripes about HP, but this seems like a really good deal. Does this have any problems with overheating or anything that you have noticed? I need it to have Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, multiple browsers and multiple browser tabs all running at the same time. I would also like to be able to stream media files to watch and listen to on the TVs on my home network, as well as play XBMC and play 1080p video on the TV it will be hooked up to. martin20xx Hello Martin. For graphics design I would recommend this HP since it has a much bigger IPS screen with very good color accuracy. The 13" Macbook pro is too small for graphics design, If I was to get a Mac for graphics design I would get the 15" Macbook Pro. Have you seen the ASUS ROG G750JM? That model has a very good display as well with a NVIDIA 860M graphics card. Check out my full review on it. Thank you

That's a tough one. However, it's going to boil down to whether you need a touch screen panel or not. The HP M7-J120dx and the Toshiba P75-a7100 both feature an Intel Core i7- 4700MQ, 8GB of RAM, and both have very good quality speakers.

I bought it in late May 14 and was very disappointed in the speed. It was no faster than my 5 year old Dell. However HP bought it back. Then today I went down to BestBuy and damned it I did not buy the same computer for $899.00 however this time I also bought a Intel 530 240GB SSD and upgraded to 16 of memory instead of the 8 it comes with. I pick it up in the morning. Hopefully I will be happier with it now.

KingVendetta- This laptop will not be able to run Battlefield 3 on medium settings. However, if you lower your resolution to 1024x768 the game will be able to run at around 31 FPS.
