I've disassembled laptops before so I know the pain and I was only pointing out what he said because it's comical to me that he's in distress because his dad is needed is all. Which in result the time expectancy of putting the laptop back together grew exponentially in his sentence.

I've watched so many vids of these laptops on your channel that I feel like I can fix them too! Check the mosfet, inject voltage, check for a heat spot and replace the component generating the heat 😅 Except I don't understand anything about injecting voltage or have any of the necessary tools to even remotely begin this type of work. You sir are a technology micro surgeon! Love watching your vids!

I feel exactly the same after i watched tons of videos from this chanel, as soon as i started out with some boards either i get very hard ones with welded mosfets or ones with very weird faults 😅. But i make sure even if the fault is visible i act as if it is not and do all the measurements to insure that i can determine the fault even if it isn't visible and learn in the process :)

Haha, I'd do the same! I started my tech career being a bench monkey at a PC build/repair shop, and LOVED taking laptops apart for this, that, and the other. We didn't do power port repair, but would swap out a display and other items. I work for a much larger company now doing AV work, but still love to tinker and learn new things, and miss taking laptops apart.

In this scenario (and many others) kapton tape just creates a channel through which the hot air will be forced, thereby heating the components underneath the tape more than they would be without the tape.

Love watching your videos and I think you are great guy. Only watching you getting overwhelmed by your own success makes me think it probably calls for training a sidekick doing most of the repetitive basic soldering, so you free yourself for diagnosing devices. That's your best skill. Maybe likewise for all the other tasks around the shop. Plenty of youngsters around who can edit your videos also. I have no doubt you could double or triple your business quickly as you appear to have a lot more potential work than you all currently can handle. With the ever growing amount of different devices that will only become more. No doubt your customers also appreciate shorter return times. Think continuity. Another growth potential could be contracts with major brands for supply of often used parts. What's even better than factory? Just my two cents.

The only time I really use kapton tape is on plastic connectors. I find it just obscures my view if I put it over components and it makes them move likely to shift if the solder does melt because of the tension the tape applies.

Hey Alex, I have a HP elitebook 2570p and I found that the cpu and chipset is getting hot. Could the chipset be the culprit or something else. ( Firstly, it never powered on. Because, the 19v rail is shorted to ground by a cap. So I replaced it. Now it will turn on but because of the over temperature it is shutting down.) Everything else is OK. It is booting into windows, too.

kapton tape is for 300 degrees and is prefered as isolation tape heat resistant, is good for winding transformers and such. is better teflon tape (PTFE brown one) as does not deform is thicker and the glue is more stable with heat But just for you Master that uses max temp always the best is aluminium tape, good for 500 degrees really shields components as is heat reflective, and dirty cheap if you buy generic hvac aluminium tape and no glue leftovers to clean its my 50cents opinion "Pure Aluminum Foil: High density 99.4% aluminum foil , lighter and shiner, can reflect 95-97% Heat Radiant , it is the best heat insulation material. Thermal Reflective Insulation | Agarwal Pune Group."
