I replaced my Gigabyte 4090 OC with a White 4090 Strix OC 3 days ago. It's a new one (also on those changed components and no coil whine), and i guess they also did some minor tweaks here and there. Was it necessary, or "reasonable"? Hell no. Do i like the white Strix oc? Hell yes. Really, the Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC in itself was awesome. The Strix simply offers that oh so sweet cherry on top - for a premium on top. After 2 hours, i could easily taste all that cherry: it is, and also feels, rigid like a tank, also when mounting, without any presence of plastic. It's cooling setup does better, and is more compact (height wise). The already low Gigabyte temperatures i enjoyed for months are even lower now (on any component), it can be undervolted more for mindboggling low power consumption, it runs a lot quieter, has less power consumption on my multi monitor setup, and build quality/components wise...it's completely overkill anyway. Which is, in the sum of all, delicious. Like it is with a lot of things (clothes, food, home interior, cars, watches, audio/Hifi stuff etc.pp.). Though i won't follow that personally on every example given - i fully understand nerds/enthusiats/collectors. Yes, no one needs more than some base/entry level model to have access to a certain functionality. Like a basic 40€ watch gives the exact same information as a 40000€ watch. But once you had a higher spec model, and you enjoy it/it's your hobby/passion - you won't (or want) go back, simple as is. Simple like: If you want one of the, if not the fastest and best air cooled 4090, love and appreciate overkill, overengineering and also the non-functional extra miles Asus went with this, and can afford it easily: it's a no-brainer to get a Strix OC. Or the Matrix Platinum if you want it watercooled. If one just wants 4090 performance level and it's funtionality - just get any, and the cheapest 4090 there is.

I know. I had to upgrade my workstation case lol. Worse part was when I built the build the last thing that came in was the GPU. I was like WTF, zip tied all the cables to make it tidy to have to remove everything but it’s whatever I just built my daughter her own build using the old case.

My new case is 5mm too short to house this card, I'm spewing, hopeing you'll say yes the end plastic bit comes off and I will be able to get one of these cards? Or the length of 357.6mm actually is from the front end to the protruding silver slot at the back of the card where the screws screw into the silver slot mount at the other end of the card, please advise either of these!!

I have my PC hooked up to a 77inch oled in the living room, so I'm pretty much the perfect customer for one of these cards. Can't wait to get back into some gaming. I think I have had about 50% of the brand 4090s now...long story. Anyway, I can say fan noise, temps, very fast, build feel, 2x HDMI is all amazing with this card. It feels high-end and looks it....but, as Asus has even pointed out with the new Matrix card, the Strix and MSIs Suprim X have the highest chance of coil whine and the worst coil whine. Ironically, the cheaper cards used some different caps and they used 50 and 55a inductors, whereas the higher-end Asus and MSI cards used the 70a which are known for whine.

I have watched quite a few of your videos! Keep it up. I just watched the Cablemod melting videos.. gahh, that sucks. I'm glad you can share your experience with it though. As for the 4090s. Yeah, it's interesting. I've experience almost the opposite. Crazy coil whine with the Gaming X Trio and TUF cards.. but both Suprims and Strix cards had very little or none. So interesting ;)
@mrmrgaming
@mrmrgaming Жыл бұрын
@@JohnLCharette Yeah, the coil whine thing is so hard to pin down because of the long list of what can cause it. Batch part changes/dirty elec/bad wall socket/house grounding, and then all the stuff in your PC. I am now messing with the Aorus Master 4090. Now, I might curse myself for saying this, but so far, I am very impressed with it. It's not perfect (none have been), but it ticks all the right boxes. And as for the melting (waiting on a reply from MSI), I have something that will at least give me a heads up if there is a next time. My motherboard has 2 temp sensors. One I put in my GPU fins so when it gets warm with gaming, it tells my case fans to ramp up, and the other will soon have a job of its own. I am getting a very thin sensor which will fit on the clip of my cablemod cable, which puts it very close to the GPU power connector. My idea is to run Cyberpunk for a few hours and use that as a baseline temp. I will then set one lot of fans to ramp up to full power if it goes over, say 5/10c of that baseline. It's not perfect, but if the connector gets hot enough to melt again, the fans will be loud enough to warn me. TBH, if used right, I don't think the cables are the issue vs how many sold, but I do think the adapter is. Even Cablemod have come out to say that the failure rate is higher than it should be and that a V2 is in the works.
@JohnLCharette
@JohnLCharette Жыл бұрын
Ohhh, really interesting work around using your temp sensors. I haven't played with any before. As for the Aorus Master - I haven't touched any of them in the 4000 series. I used one or two 3000 series ones and they were okay. The screen was a bit gimmicky. I had considered trying to find their 360mm AIO one to compare it to the Suprim X Liquid, but never came across one to buy.
@mrmrgaming
@mrmrgaming Жыл бұрын
@@JohnLCharette I am glad I got it now as I know on launch, they had issues with the screen but it's all good now. TBH, I will never use it 99% of the time as I cannot see it when I am sitting lol The temp sensor thing will work, but more so with certain cables. The prob I am waiting on is very thin, and it will slot down the back of the cablemod cable because of how its made, I am unsure of others. There are ways around that, but it means you need to add something to hold it in place. The AIO version has been here since launch, but with all of them, they take up room/alter fan layout and look/harder to resell due to the smaller market wanting them.

100% agree about the 360mm being a pain to find room in your case and similar to most AIO, they are harder to resell. I've been slowly working on a custom watercooling build and I know reselling it will be near impossible. That's good to hear that they fixed the screen issues on the Aorus. I'm in a similar boat. Currently using a Fractal North case and you wouldn't see the screen, so there's little value.

Bro you've just got a new sub! Can you try to help me with my brand new setup coming soon? I'm way too lost deciding between two cases because I want to buy a PSU ASUS ROG LOKI 1000W + this GPU 4090 ROG STRIX OC + MOBO ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero + CPU Ryzen 9 7950X3D (16 C/32 TH and 144MB of cache) and the two cases I'm lost to decide is: Corsair 7000X Airflow Full Tower or NZXT H7 Elite 2023 Mid Tower. Do you think both of them can support and fit my setup? I mean PSU ASUS ROG LOKI 1000W + MOBO + 4090 ASUS ROG STRIX OC?
@JohnLCharette
@JohnLCharette 8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the sub! I can absolutely provide my input. The first thing that came to mind is that the 7000X is a full tower vs. a mid-tower case with the NZXT. As you can see in my video, my GPU test bench system is installed in a similarly sized Corsair 5000D. It fits all ATX motherboards, power supplies and any GPU I've thrown at it. You'll have LOADS of room in a Corsair 7000X. To me, it feels like wasted space unless you need it for watercooling components, additional hard drives or a 420mm radiator. If I had to choose between those two cases, I would definitely lean towards the NZXT. I haven't personally used one, but it looks very similar sizing to the Corsair 5000D. The NZXT is MUCH cheaper than the Corsair 7000X too. How are you cooling your CPU? That usually determines the case size - if you need a 360mm or 420mm AIO, that changes things. If you are planning on using a 420mm radiator, then you'll need the full-size case.

Oh gosh. I'm so sorry, but I may have missed recording my HWInfo stats which includes my temps. I usually have a whole section on thermals, but skipped it. What's the difference between 4090 16GB vs 24GB??
@JohnLCharette
@JohnLCharette 9 ай бұрын
The 16GB 4090 is only for laptop GPUs. It compares closer to a desktop 4080, or even a little worse. Here's a great article talking about the mobile 4090 16GB GPUs: www.techspot.com/review/2624-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-laptop-gpu/

@JohnLCharette
@JohnLCharette 9 ай бұрын
Oh no, I think you misunderstood what I meant. Yes, we all use PWM for our fans. I was curious how many people connect specific fans to their GPU. Since recording this, I have learned from my Asus tech rep that those two PWM ports on the GPU are tied to the GPU temps, not the CPU temps, like your motherboard headers. That way, you can fine-tune fans directed at your GPU to help cool it specifically. It's very smart.
