This is a well-designed laptop. It's perfect for the multimedia developer who also likes to game on the side (not the extreme demanding games like cyberpunk) This was on my list initially but I took it off because it cannot be used in clamshell mode. Do not get discouraged by that statement. I am just the type of user who travels and does use the internal display, but also half the time uses an external tv or monitor. If you're the type first mentioned who travels and never uses clamshell mode, this is the one. Don't forget to get the warranty extension.

Thinking about a new laptop, first stop is the best damn laptop reviewer online. Hilarious, and tells you the shit you need to know. Other reviewers are going to read the spec sheet to you, but you can do that yourself. DT2 tells you if your dirty hands are going to scum up the cover or if you're going to stain the case with spaghetti sauce. Reviews are more than just specs!

I own the laptop and I would recommend 3 things : A cooling pad, it helps get the power cable out of the way of the vent and just in general to prolong the life of the CPU and GPU. A type c USB hub with an ethernet port, you can power and connect more peripherals to the laptop with it ( I had one laying around and that ethernet port is coming in clutch plus you can still charge your laptop through it with a power bank) also like somebody else said, you can use your personal phone as a webcam. often times those cameras way way better than any laptop would ever have anyway so maybe look up a laptop mount for it.

Great review! I bought the 2022 G14 and it was hot as hell even when idling...they need to work on that AMD GPU. I went back to return it and picked up the 2021. This little thing is a tank and is much cheaper. Plus the webcam sucked on the 2022

I've seen a lot of beautiful laptops but this understated thing is a freaking work of art. Thanks for your awesome insight into this laptop. I just picked mine up today at the Best a Buy. It's not the G15, but then again the G15 is not this, and the G15 costs more. I think maybe they couldn't fire the guy/gal so they had him/her put stickers on because mine are DEFINITELY even more crooked than yours are and I saw other peoples are crooked too.

I would love this machine to have: Thunderbolt 4, keyboard similar to Lenovo Legion, 2 SSD Nvme slots, Camera, I agree with your opinion about the power cable placement it's unfortunate. I would love to have 3080 gpu, some newest intel cpu (to get that thunderbolt), resolution 2,5k, USB C port to work with oculus straight of the box not checking the internet on how to make it work, also some dedicated docking station would be sweet to have to connect 2-3 monitors in seconds just like thinkpad have -> click and its connected to everything... but I guess that's just my dream laptop spec... because I cannot find such 14" machine so far.

Great review. I wanted the best buy warrenty + AMD and this was the only one at bestbuy around 1500 with an AMD cpu. My only regret is it has too few USB ports which my rift s needs. Easily solved with a dock or dongle but now I have to find one.

You should definetly try to get msi ge 76 raider. Much more better laptop than razer blade 17 pro. For best gaming and mobility I would rather use asus rog flow x13

She was using Samsung S6 tablet for work and She tells me its not much diferent from the tablet. Plus g14 isnt much bigger than flow x13, and with the flow x13 you have to get the external gpu plus chager.

@@SonicDestiny flow X13 also only gets 6hr battery life compared to 10hr on the g14 Also its speakers are worse Also its CPU clock rates fluctuate whilst gaming with an external gpu leading to fluctuating frame rates and a poor gaming experience Flow x13 palm rest area is so small that it is uncomfortable to type on and trackpad is so tiny that you would want an external mouse unlike g14. Flow x13 gets 6 degrees warmer on the keyboard when gaming (51 degrees) So there are definitely a lot of other compromises

You're right but it's no big deal to me overall because I never use it anyway. The only reason I would is if I was in a hotel room with slow wifi. I didn't do an actual test, but the response time is ~20ms. Same as last year's.

Definitely only $1600 after taxes in CA. I know everyone likes to blow our tax rates out of proportion but retail taxes are comparable to other states with similar production and consumer consumption rates.

Don’t take it personal. I lived in CA for 13 years so I know it’s not just the taxes. It’s everything else you have to deal with like gas and utilities. Even my car registration was $300 a year cheaper in another state. Those are the real “taxes” I’m referring to. Balancing out the things you want in life with discretionary funds. But that’s a different conversation all together. Lol.

I did a review of the G15. I look at those as the exact same, only difference being the size. It depends if you want the portability of the G14. Yes, the G15 has the 3070, but also has that QHD screen which levels the playing field.

Great review. I’m really really curious about the Alienware with the AMD chips releasing later this month. It seems to be that the intel chips are still stacking up pretty closely strictly for gaming, but the AMD chips for content creation/workflow are much better. It’s odd that there’s seemingly similar CPU temp results from each manufacturer in most laptops that have both intel and AMD options, just from reviews i’ve seen. Thanks for keeping it real in the reviews, they are just fun to watch.

I have not, but I don't see a reason for it not to be able to run VR. I have not tried the Oculus Air Link yet though. I will play around with it soon.
