I really like how all this info was presented. Your compare/contrast exploration is much more valuable than a specs listing, because it mirrors what a buyer should think about. This is also why I think you make some of the best case reviews, your opinions are based on building and using them. Others would just slag a case for any little deficiency, but you always point out potential workarounds and other interesting modding opportunities, and that's super helpful to me when deciding "if to buy", not just "what to buy". Thanks for what you do!

Mild correction the F is a 6+2 with the core phases using 6x pairs of IR3555 60amp mosfets in parallel or "teamed" as asus calls it, the soc is 2 separate phases. So 6 FAT phases core+2soc. The E is a 7+1 with 7 pairs of ir3555s for the core and a pair (1 phase) teamed for the SOC. So 7FAT phase core+1FAT phase soc. Both use an ASP1405 which is rebranded IR35201, an 8 phase max (can be set at 6+2 or a 7+1 or 8+0). Otherwise awesome work as ever given, love the shirt and the comparison!
@tomstech43904 жыл бұрын
@CIearLight Not quite but not far off either, x570-e is a 6+2 but parallel So a Fat6+Fat2 (looks like 12+4 or a "16 stage" whatever thats meant to be. Otherwise yeah Asus only uses an asp1405 (ir35201) 8phase/6+2phase at most so that's all you'll ever get. The bigger concern is something like the ROG Strix X570-F Gaming..... *14 stage vrm* and *asus rog strix* and *its got the big plate coving the pcb its complete badass* whats not to love right?...except it uses the asp1406 which is only a 4+2 phase but they triple the components so it looks like a 12+2 for 14 "stages" total. Also those DrMos mosfets have been a thing forever now and they're really not that impressive anymore, still better than separate high/low mosfets but pretty "okay". I'll keep my IR parts thanks. Yeah Gigabytes gone a bit nuts (they were hammered for having weak vrm's on 300 series and were better for 400 series and are now massively overcompensating), They are going to be really expensive though for that specific board. Otherwise gigabyte and msi rely quite a bit on the OnSemi 4C029/4C024 chips for the most part, They could do better but it makes sense for the lower prices. Overall for B550 its a case of give up zen1/zen+ support, Give up a bottom pcie4 slot and expansion, Gain better vrm's for a slightly higher price and no chipset fan (effectively its like x470 gained pcie4 on the top pcie x16 slot and M.2). Pretty good I'd say.

Congratulations, you've shown how much you don't know about computer building... MOST of the time, any USB3 connections you have will be routed to the front of the build (case) for accessability and ease, while the majority of things you'll ever need USB2.0 for should be connected to the back for hiding, like cables to a DAC or similar components, as they're not always USB3+ compatible. So you're effectively whining about them making sure things aren't stupified by the user. It isn't like there isn't PLENTY of USB3+ support, it's just not where your dumbass thinks it "should be".

No usb C connection on the B550-F Motherboard to attach a USB C cable to a front USB C input of the Lian Li case. I had to buy a PCI card and cable to take it to the front! www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZRTQXNC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think like this, the B550-F will fit my needs for now and it's cheaper. And I will be replacing it all anyhow when 5nm and DDR5 is out and proven somewhere in 2022 :P

Seriously? U've been doing mobo reviews for how long? 10+ years now i think? And u call Dr. MOS "Doctor MOS"? :D It's driver/mosfet, jfyi. Cos it's the driver and mosfet assembled together in one body :D

If you count the internal headers as "USB ports", I'll just avoid your shit altogether.

@@OC3D based on your comments regarding the gigabyte intel bios problems of starting up. I am interested in the in depth review of the B550 board, nice though the preview was it does not cover the real problems. I have gravitated to MSI recently because the bios has not caused me grief. but the finned gigabyte card looks better cooled, than my X470 carbon.

E is better than F . I’ve already looked at the spec, .. but anyway correct if I’m wrong the AM4 x500 series is only compatible for the next gen 4000 series and after that a new socket for the Ryzen 4000 replacement..... so why bother !?! To me a waste of money since they are overpriced .. I’m on a x470 Hero VII with a 3900X and 5700xt and works perfectly so why bother to change for me ! I’m not changing. .... apart from that, great review 👍

I you have a b450 no need to change it. I new motherboard is needed if you are getting a new cpu, b550 has more stuff, if you need them

there is no point in updating your mainboard regulary anyways and am4 will do fine the following years. ... still runing an intel i5 and asus z87 Plus from back in 2014 ^^
