The retail version comes with a printed manual. I just bought one of these, it seems like a decent board. So far I've updated the BIOS to enable Resizeable BAR on my 3090.
@MiddleofKnowhere3 жыл бұрын
don't forget to update your vbios on the gpu too for resizable bar. you have to do both.
@NeonT3tra252 жыл бұрын
what is resizable bar ?
@dangerzone6481 Жыл бұрын
@@NeonT3tra25 straight from nvidia With the ever-growing size of modern game assets, this results in a lot of transfers. Using Resizable BAR, assets can instead be requested as-needed and sent in full, so the CPU can efficiently access the entire frame buffer. And if multiple requests are made, transfers can occur concurrently, rather than queuing. Basically instead of small sections loading and "standing in line to load" resizable bar allows for all to load at once giving a possible performance boost in game I use it and see about a 2 to 10 fps increase give or take some

For the TPM In the BIOS, check Advanced > AMD fTPM Configuration > TPM Device Selection and make sure it's set to Firmware TPM (assuming you don't have a distinct TPM chip installed). In addition to first response Disk needs to be GPT format not MBR. It can be changed if necessary. Then after changing you would need to turn off CSM in bios.

I hear ya there. Deciding on a motherboard can be pretty tough. It's all about knowing what you need from it, what it can support in terms of drives, I/O, etc., and then Power Delivery and its cooling can be very important too if you're going to put in a demanding CPU. Have fun with your new PC build!

Just picked one of these up at microcenter for 150. running a 5700G because I don't want to invest into an old socket. As I suspect the next cpus to be AM5. So far so good. Upgraded from an i7 920 and an MSI 760 Twin Frozr. and what an upgrade that was. So far I have had issues with the old AI Suite III software causing a boot loop. To fix that, I downloaded the AI Suite Uninstaller from Asus. put it on a flash drive and booted to safe mode. I was able to uninstall the software and start installing the new Asus board software without issues. I really appreciate the quality of this in depth video.
@MiddleofKnowhere2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and I'm glad the video was of help. I haven't mucked with AI Suite III since my VII Hero board for my 2700X. I just found it too resource consuming and buggy. The "easy" overclocking would end up creating more crashes than it was worth. In my recent Build video where I used the Strix B550-F I believe I mentioned I didn't install it due to the invasiveness of the software. I'd recommend staying away from it, but the Armoury Crate is decent enough with Aura and other features. You can't overclock or do any of the fan tuning other than some presets, but you can always create a custom fan curve within the BIOS. I did a BIOS tour video for this board as well, it might prove helpful to you.

I just ordered this mobo an hour ago but the wifi variant to replace my messed up 2nd hand MSI MEG B550 Unify-X, which has been randomly getting black screens with a 00 debug code and I have no idea what's causing it. I really like this MSI mobo though, it has a power button, reset button and clear cmos button on the mobo along with a debug code LED display and 4 m.2 slots, two of which are pcie 4.0 plus it has 6 USB 3.2 slots on the back, but then again MSRP for this mobo was $300. You are absolutely correct that mobos in this price range even though less expensive then my current mobo, should include the power and clear cmos buttons on the mobo, they should also include the debug code LED display instead of just the stupid debug LEDs that tell you nothing.

The intel i227V network unit on this mobo is a bit sketchy... i and many other people have had issues with it, if you don't have an ethernet cable that can do 1GB, like if you have an old cable that you put through your house 10 years ago while building it... or a cable that is just a little bad, but works fine on other computers, then it just straight up won't recognize that you even have an ethernet cable and will give you "no ethernet cable connected". Updating the i227V firmware (which is a big hassle, but i tried it anyway) and testing older and newer firmware and windows drivers doesn't make any difference there's just something about the network unit itself. You can solve this by manually setting it to duplex 10/10 Mb then setting it back up to full duplex 100/100 Mb, but you have to do that every single time you restart your computer or even after going back from sleep mode. Normally the network cards just detect these things automatically but for some reason the one on this mobo is wonky. If you get yourself a new fine ethernet cable it'll be fine though, but still, it shouldn't be like this. Other than that I'd say it's a pretty fine motherboard specially now that the price on it has come down a little bit, earlier market price from a year ago was a bit too much for this kind of board i'd say.
@MiddleofKnowhere2 жыл бұрын
Dang that sounds like a hassle. I’d almost recommend an inexpensive pci Ethernet card at that point. You’d think ASUS would have fixed this or come out with a revision using a different NiC solution

Check these options I've linked. amzn.to/3RU0DwL One definite option is to add a PCIe card with an internal Type-C connector on it. You can then connect your case type-c cable to it. It also has the added bonus of additional rear ports (usually). This one for example has additional rear ports and 2 front internal type-c ports so you can connect your case and get more in the back. amzn.to/3RU0DwL

I've Used the MSI B550-A Pro before and it has loads of features, like Front and rear USB Type-C that the B550-F doesn't (only rear). I think they both perform comparatively when it comes to Power Delivery and RAM compatibility.

Really great video, thanks! One thing caught me off guard though, you say you cannot have cpu or ram installed when using Bios flashback?
@MiddleofKnowhere3 ай бұрын
It's an option for the BIOS flashback, you can have one installed, but when you don't it's usually when the motherboard's current BIOS won't support the CPU so you need a newer one before installing said CPU. For instance let's say this motherboard supports Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series CPUs, which it does, but the current BIOS on it was older when Ryzen 5000 hadn't come out yet. Installing the Ryzen 5xxx CPU won't work and the motherboard won't post. In this instance you'll want to use BIOS flashback, not have the CPU or RAM installed, and then install the BIOS that brings Ryzen 5000 compatability. The second scenario is, you have your CPU and RAM installed, the computer boots as normal but the newest BIOS fixes things, adds more compatibility and you want to update, then you can update as normal -- install the new BIOS on a flash drive use the BIOS utility ASUS makes you use to convert file, insert flash drive, reboot into BIOS, then update. Hope that helps.

Great video and amazing levels of detail. Thanks for that. I have been using this motherboard for a few years now and have recently decided to upgrade my storage of 500gb SSD by adding a 4tb M2 4.0. Unfortunately I can't get it to work. Once the M2 is installed it only recognizes that and ignores the old SSD where I have my OS installed. I did read on the manual that if the M2_2 slot is populated the SATA 5 and 6 are disabled but that is not my case as I have it on the 1 slot and using SATA 1 and 2 for my old SSD and a HDD. Any ideas?
@MiddleofKnowhere11 ай бұрын
Make sure the boot order for your drives is still the same. If you didn't reshuffle anything, like move the OS m.2 to the lower one and put the new m.2 into the upper slot, then it shouldn't be an issue. In the bios though you can set boot priority, so maybe something happened there?

You're good on cooling, prob will need more fans. Since you don't intend to overclock, the stock CPu cooler for 5800x should be okay but maybe consider a better air-cooler, maybe a noctua chromax one. For your audio interface, wow that thing looks beefy. Looks like you just plug it into the PC via USB 2.0 . . . that's cool.

If the B550 Tomahawk is 50 bucks less than the ASUS, I think I'd recommend the MSI all day. Just compare the two to see how they differ. I love loads of USB ports so, for instance, if the ASUS has more, I'd go with that as that suits my needs. Basically, know what you need, then take each board and their respective prices into account. Sometimes you have to pay more to get more, but if you don't need more then go for the cheaper option.

Hi! This is one of the motherboards I'm considering for my next PC (the other being B550-E Gaming). I'm planning to use a AMD Ryzen 7 5800X in my next PC. I got some RAM as a birthday gift and was wondering how well those will work with the motherboard? It's DDR4 2666 MHz, more specifically Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 4x16
@MiddleofKnowhere2 жыл бұрын
I’d try to exchange that for ddr4 3600. Ryzen likes faster ram speeds. It will cost a bit extra but you’ll have better performance.

hello, I just mounted my first pc for without cpu (coming soon) from the game with all the new pieces taken from amazon, after having assembled everything and double-checked everything I try to switch on but I only light up the asus logo on the motherboard which can be the problem ??? 😭

Great video thank you for sharing, Would you say that this is the best bang for the buck still today for the black friday deals? I have been looking at mobos for 2 days and I am almost settled on this one. wwhat is the difference between all these rog A through f models with this mobo?
@luk31492 жыл бұрын
Ive bought it today for $150, my only concern is if there wont be any ethernet problems as many ppl have encountered (mainly on the older versions). A and F is only a color difference and the RGB logo on the F.

@@luk3149 Thank you for your response. What would be your under 180 pick for the best b550 mobo today for the black Friday sales? Pairing with a amd ryzen 5 5600?

@@jaybourbon8608 Rog Strix B550-F/A or MSI B550 Gaming Edge/Tomahawk. Ive bought the Rog Strix B550-F gaming today and 5600 a couple of days ago :), just ram left. Strix has a lot going for it - great vrm and cooling, top end b550 audio, one of the better rear I/O in its price category, 2 m2 heatsinks and great looks.

@@luk3149 I was between that one as well. Very cool. My last Asus Maximus hero vi has gotten me past the last 10 years until now with no issues. I'm so far out of the loop on technology I've been reading non stop for a week now trying to get ready for this sale and I missed the Amazon 5600 deal and also a few others. I did catch the msi mech Radeon 6650 xt oc deal at Newegg for 250 though. Now I'm 1 piece of the puzzle closer. Do you have a new build on pc part picker to save me here from this insanity of looking every model date up? Everything I buy has to be best price per performance without sacrificing performance while future proofing as good as I can. I've seen some decent builds but nothing that made me want to invest in them. You seem like a very knowledgeable person who looks for price per performance as well.

so I got this exact motherboard and on the box it says AMD RYZEN 5000 DESKTOP READY and I have a ryzen 7 5800x so does that mean that I don't have to update bios since its already desktop ready for the 5000 series?
@MiddleofKnowhere2 жыл бұрын
That is correct! You're good to go. You may want to update the BIOS just to see if any security holes have been filed or anything like that. However, when it comes to the BIOS and if you're not comfortable, if it's not broke--don't update it. I also have a video that tours this motherboard's BIOS. You may find it helpful should you go and update it. Thank you for watching!

Great question. After looking at the Gigabyte, it does have front type-c connectivity if your case has that port. Almost everything else is very similar to the ASUS. After that it just is a matter of which brand have you used before, and like? Also the ASUS has 4+8 pin CPU power delivery whereas Gigabyte only has 8-pin, so if you are getting a 5900X or higher CPU, I'd go with that board. Possibly even for the 5800X. Especially if you intend to overclock or do intensive activities besides gaming where you'll need the extra power. Hope this helps!

Gigabyte is doing shady stuff latwly i would go with asus , much better quality in products and the safest brsnd to buy hardware , they are the kings of hardware.

Will this motherboard give the full potential of Beyerdynamic - DT 770 PRO?
@MiddleofKnowhere2 жыл бұрын
While you can plug them into the mobo no problem as they can drive headphones with an impedance range of 32-600, you may want an external dac/amp solution. Now having said that, try the headphones out with the motherboard and if you feel they are lacking compared to when plugged into a receiver or other audio gear then go for and external solution to pair with the mobo.

Does it support the Ryzen 5000 series or do I need to update bios
@MiddleofKnowhere2 жыл бұрын
Mine supported Ryzen 5000 out the box. Just look for a sticker on the box. I think eso h time has passed you should be okay. If it does need a bios update I have a video on using q-flash for the board.

Thank you i have a question for now 2021 is this good for a r 5 5600x and a rtx 2070 super or should i look at a x570. One person told me i should rather buy msi x570 a pro but i dont know if i can trust him
@MiddleofKnowhere3 жыл бұрын
The answer all depends on what your are doing. Are you needing both m.2 slots to be pcie 4.0? Do you need any of the added functionality an x570 board will give you? Do you need front usb type-c, etc etc. The board will work great with that cpu/gpu combo but if you need other features it lacks, keep shopping around. Hope that helps!

Can we use rog strix B550 f wifi for professional studio recording ?. Is rog strix supreme fx s 1220a, audio codec recommended for professional recording. Pl. clear.
@MiddleofKnowhere Жыл бұрын
So this codec from some research is regarded as being pretty good. However, I'm of the opinion if you want to do professional recording, you will want to invest in an external solution or at the very least some kind of audio PCIe card. If you don't have extra cash to do so at the moment, then I'd say use the onboard solution for now while saving up. Ultimately, no motherboard's onboard sound won't be as good as an external solution dedicated to what you're trying to do be it voice over, sound effects, or music production, but it's a start.
