4K is too much of a push right now. Maybe 1440p could be the next standard right now and then 4K further down the line.
@Langotriel1
@Langotriel1 10 жыл бұрын
yupyup. when multi graphic card setups struggle with the latest games at ultra settings at 4K then there is no point. 2 of the top end gpus will get 60 in some games.. but that won't last.. in 6 months the new games will be pushing the below 60 which just aint worth it.
@Josh_2976
@Josh_2976 10 жыл бұрын
why not have both? I use 1440p and with a single r9 290x I can manage 80-100fps in BF4 and a few other games. We aren't that far off from the top tier GPUs getting acceptable performance at 4k.
@Langotriel1
@Langotriel1 10 жыл бұрын
by all means, let them improve the gpus.. but from a consumers point of view.. it aint worth building for 4K at the moment.

4k is just impractical for gpu's and if you dont want to bankrupt yourself youre stuck with lagg and 30 Hz

I agree with you on the fact that 4K is too much right now. The GPU horsepower just isn't there for gaming yet but it's getting close. But I don't think we should be standardizing one specific resolution. I have a 3 mounted 22" monitors for my pc. Although I would love 4K, I won't give up such a setup until 4K actually becomes practical.

The display is supposed to show up as dual monitors as it contains two scaler chips instead of one.scaler chip. These scalers show up as seperate monitors and the nvidia driver is smart enough to handle it as two displays in surround mode. The newer TN panel 4k monitors have single scaler chips and shouldn't have these problems.

While looking at the demonstration of Wendel trying to get 4K working, I though about how much power a modern GPU actually has, and how crappy it actually runs when playing games. When I look at the consoles, it is amazing what they get out of them, APU thought with integrated graphics. Does anybody know how programming a game / engine for an APU differs compared to one for a CPU and GPU config? Is it really that hard to get a game running good on modern PC hardware?

Question:Could an M.2 be used for graphics in the future since its basically a PCIe interface? Not in desktops, but maybe laptops? It would allow you to upgrade your GPU instead of having it soldered to the main board. Just a thought.

There is already a standard called MXM (Mobile pci-eXpress Module) that laptop gpus use. Most "workstation" laptops and the "heavier" gaming laptops (and some of the smaller ones too!) use this standard already.
@nilssab
@nilssab 10 жыл бұрын
Cody Marr guys, srsly.. where would you put the heat sink on that? Even if it/s possible it would perform worse than cellphone GPU. Which are still ages behind desktop GPUs
@DrSpike666
@DrSpike666 10 жыл бұрын
nilssab The same place they put the heat sink in gaming laptops. If they can do it now with integrated laptop GPUs they can figure out how to get rid of the heat from a removable GPU. Why would it perform worse than a mobile GPU? All it needs to do is perform at least as fast as the same soldered in GPU. I'm just saying it'd be interesting if you could buy something like an Alienware18 with a GTX 860M then upgrade to GTX 880M down the road if you felt like it.
@nilssab
@nilssab 10 жыл бұрын
-HiveMind- fair point, thought you meant putting it in a desktop motherboard, since that's what this vid is about.. However, I think GPUs in laptops are already replaceable, they probably use another PCIe connector interface though, and they probably have to route it differently to connect them to the video output interfaces.

If ANYONE has ever had this problem, or may know what the issue may be, please help! Some specs here just in case: GTX 970 Zotak, Corsair CX750M, Core i7-4770. No overclocking yet, everything is still new and in it's factory condition.

Easy bios? The ROG Hero VII has a LOT of manual adjustment possibilities but on the other hand the EZ mode and tuning wizard worked great, 4.2 OC, RAM OC, power saving, fan profiles all with one mouse click. Spent a day (24 hours!) manually overclocking and only got 4.3 out of my 4670k (sending it back for a 4.0/4.4 ghz 4790k) so the AI Suite worked very well and runs at 800mhz when it's just cruising. Wasn't personally happy with my GA-z77x-ud3h. No PS-2 port on the MSI.

@WiiHaveDowns
@WiiHaveDowns 8 жыл бұрын
+Josef Gharib I think it has to do with the way the system keeps power in the motherboard for random power downs. In the case of a random loss of power, instead of everything dying at once, a small amount of reserve power is kept to allow power down. Because of this certain interfaces remain active, including the ethernet ports. This also is the reason you can get 1.2v out of the USB ports even when off.
