I might be wrong but I remember hearing it is common for people with DID to have alters as a coping mechanism or mainly because of traumatic events but honestly it’s just so depressing to see it happening

I didn’t cry this episode I nearly did but that was sad. I felt so uncomfortable when the mom was beating Steven and man Steven better not be gone. I’m shocked they didn’t show Jake Lockley (I think that’s how his last name is spelled) at all this episode.

I think that at the beginning it was Jake trying to kill Harrow with that. Marc wouldn’t act that way the first time Marc saw Harrow, he panicked and ran off trying to escape not even knowing what was going on no matter what. Jake I think was going for the kill acting like nothing was wrong thanking Harrow before trying to stab him and his accent was different. And Marc wasn’t injured he was screaming at the hippo alongside Steven

Honestly after watching this episode I couldn’t tell if Thor or Wanda’s stories were more depressing than Mark’s origin. But Mark is up there as one of the most tragic marvel characters.

Incredible & heartbreaking. I think (and pray) Steven will be back in the last ep - with DID (from what I've researched, I don't have DID so pls take my opinion with a pinch of salt) an alter doesn’t just ‘die’ or ‘disappear’ when they go with integration treatment (good communication between alters, an acceptance of a system, less/no blackouts when switching etc) . If they want to go with final fusion (merging experiences, traits etc), it takes years and years, a lot of work and a readiness to fuse - Steven didn’t look at all ready when he fell off that boat and introducing the third alter and then fusing in the same ep without a chance for the character to breathe would be a weird choice for me. I don't think I'd be mad if they did it as fusing is a valid treatment, I'd just miss Steven and Marc as separate entities, especially with Oscar saying that Steven is autistic so I don't know why they'd do that when the character is so important and unique. Either way I need 3 - 5 business days to recover excuse me while I return to my sobbing fest

People that have DID is most commonly because of childhood trauma not being able to develop one personality fully due to the trauma, so yeah, their is normally an alter (in this case steven) that has no memories of the trauma as a way to cope with what the person experienced

We were all you, Alex. This episode clocked all of us and we're all still trying to pick ourselves up after this. I used to think Bruce Wayne and peter Quill had a tough childhood, I was GROSSLY mistaken! Wendy Spector made him believe all the horrible things she said about him. From the looks of it, she verbally abused him from his 9th birthday to his 12th, and not long after his 12th birthday, it looks like the beatings began. Wendy finally broke Marc mentally. When danger is near, Steven Grant has no fear. Marc retreated into his mind and his childhood hero, Steven Grant came to the rescue--Steven is the guy Marc wanted to be as a child; he roleplayed as Steven with his little brother when they played outside. It's a little strange that Steven doesn't remember his mother beating him, but as he had two jobs, protect Marc and protect his happiness, I guess it isn't all that strange. Steven either blocked those memories or he had his own protector. Probably the latter considering what happened in the alps and in Cairo. Someone saved Steven when Ammit's zealots tried to take the scarab from him and someone saved him again when he got in trouble with the thugs in Cairo. Taweret had Steven and Marc go on a journey to learn what they were keeping from one another and at the end of the journey, Steven realized that he was Marc, which he admits when Marc is getting attacked by the sand zombies (notice his voice change to Marc's when he makes this realization). Steven having two versions of himself, an innocent one and a more assertive one, would allow him to do his job and explain his date in the first episode and the conversation he doesn't remember with the woman at the pet shop where he bought Gus 2.0--both women were certain they spoke with Steven, so why should we doubt them? Marc couldn't be judged because his soul was incomplete. At the end of his and Steven's journey, when everything was out in the open, Marc reconciled his past and Steven realized that he was Marc. There were no more secrets, and no longer a need for Steven. If Steven is Marc and can do whatever Marc can do, the same is true for Marc! Steven, the one we came to know dies saving the person he's supposed to protect. Gone, but not forgotten, as Steven will always be apart of Marc, but this time united now that Marc and Stevens hearts have become one again. That's my interpretation of things, anyway. Marc standing alone in the field of reeds is probably the first time his mind has been quiet in a very long time. It was a very peaceful looking scene, the calm before the storm. Marc's combat prowess and Steven's knowledge of Egypt is going to help him defeat Arthur and Ammit. Cannot wait. PS: I'll be watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on 5/4 too. I wonder if it'll be mind-bending as Moon Knight.

The comments can't help explain what's going on with the whole psych ward thing, In the comics Marc was in a psych ward for a bit, but there was no "what's real what's not real" thing. Best we can do is theorize.
