Great video. Learned a lot. I just bought a 1985 Chevy Camaro Z/28 this past weekend. Blue with silver ground effects. All original, 305 TPI motor, interior in mint shape, Engine rebuilt, AC and heat still works. Only need paint and minor body work. I feel lucky to have it. Planning to restore it, keep it all original numbers matching.

Love the third gen Camaros! I've owned five of them. Working on the fifth one now as a restoration project I call "Plain Jane." It is just an 1984 Camaro Sport, but it came with a 305 engine, 4bbl carb, and 700r4 from the factory. To top it all off (no pun intended), it also came with factory T-top! Great video for any enthusiast! Will be adding it to my channel favs.

After a 10 year run it is amazing how rare these 3rd. gen. camaros have become 28 years later...especially the ones which have not been wrecked at some point, been up north and rusty, or just not been taken care of and abused...the nice original ones (and I stress "original") are super tough to find.

Not to be a debbie downer but 87' was the first year the 350 TPI was offered in the 3rd gen Camaro, not 86'. :D Also the 3rd brake light was moved from the hatch down to the rear spoiler in 87'.

correction on the 87 model the 3rd brake moved from the other glass (86) into the rear deck spoiler on all models except for the base camaro without spoiler that kept the 86 style. also in 88 was the only year to have the new style spoiler standard. the regular spoiler was an option in 88 only camaros rs 89 it went back to standard spoiler 1991 is when the high mount stop light went inside the rear hatch till the end of the camaro due to new spoiler.

Good info. A few mistakes, but good presentation. There were NO 86 IROC'S with the 5.7 engine. In 87, the third brake light moved to the rear spoiler, it didn't go inside the hatch glass till 1991 model year. Also, the 230hp 305 with the N10 dual cat exhaust and 5 speed actually started in the late build 1989 model year.

There were maybe a couple 5.7 cars built that were 86's for testing, but GM sold zero to the public with the 8th digit of the VIN being the number 8 (350 engine code) They cannot sneak a couple out without EPA tests, and all the other stuff that went along with federal regulations. An Under appreciated Camaro 3rd gens. Try and find one today in decent shape since most were raced rotted out and the interiors were cheaply made and those amazing TBars that leaked and caused the cars to weaken the body and helped rust it out..but a must have option that we loved. I owned one an 1987 black with red interior 5.0 auto wish I had gotten the 5spd purchased just after high school in the 80s. This was an iconic car Iroc Z28 and a blast to drive and fun racing mustangs with better handling. Too many speeding tickets had to sell insurance was getting higher back then too. A year ago I bought one 5.0litre 5spd T bars Iroc Z28 and the funny thing it was a black car with grey interior. This was a project car that was running and complete but had to sell it off due the the rust issues that required much work for me but I bought the car cheap and sold it for a small loss. IMO buy one that is as rust free as possible or buy one in a quality condition since to restore one can be costly due to buying one in better shape. If you can do the work and have a garage yourself it may be the way to go since project cars can be overwhelming and costly. Still love these cars and I may begin to search for another on maybe convertible but prefer a 5spd even though the 5.7 has more power stick is more fun to drive. This has been a great video BTW and documents 3rd gens quite well. If get another Iroc Z28 again it will be modified Ls motor with upgraged trans 5 or 6 spd and possi rear end and lowered suspension with frame connectors and I will very HAPPY.

@@CamaroTime Hope you get a deal but I'm here in Canada they salt the roads and it just kills old cars. I may have to purchase one in the in the dryer parts of the States if I can't get a good one up here but the prices are starting to rise for these 3rd gens if they are low milage originals can fetch a high dollar. These cars look amazing modified pro touring. Detroit Speed DSE has an amazing Iroc pro tour car in blue. The Iroc Z28 is a unique body style and its very light weight and can handle from stock..too bad they killed the Trans Am my first car was a 1969 firebird I drove daily in high school and regret selling it due to gas prices and storage at the time..I like both modle TAs and Camaros can't go wrong with either!!👍👍

I hear ya. Just another reason I like where I live. We do not get much snow at all so there rarely is salt on the roads. Our biggest deal is people parking them and letting the grass grow up around it or park it in fields. Causes oxidation really bad to the underneath of the cars. I will be keeping a lookout in the videos for yours! Love the 68 and 69 firebirds as well. Talk about something getting hard to find. At any price

I owned a nice 83 Z28 in 89, down fall, it had cross fire 🔥 injection, it would catch on fire all the time but I still loved that car!

I hear you. I am not a fan of the mid engine. They all just look alike, Guess it has to do with air flow and dynamics. Jusst not for me. But I can see what many would want it. Yep, cross fire was a bad design. But in the day it was the best they could come up with to try to have any performance at all . Thanks for watching

Love this Gen as well I had a 1986 L69 5.0 305 HO 4-bbl . The only thing I did not like about it was the color. Two tone brown, I had the window lovers on the back like I do now. It was a sweet car got a ticket in 1998 on the way to Georgia in Louisiana . Now I don't know if this is true or not but from what I have been told there were only 78 made of this particular color or car. We had to sell it because wife got pregnant with second child and our first use to ride in car seat in back when he was a few months old. That's probably what's wrong with him today. shook him up a little too much back there. I have not even been able to find that color on google.

Does anyone know what the coded tag is on my 91 Camaro. Not a full sized cowl tag. Reads 05. 048051. Did all come with this depending on the plant it was made ? I notice some didn't come with any body tag at all, just the holes for it. Its a series of numbers on a small metal plate on LHS of radiator support. Someone told me, it represents the month and production number of either ALL F bodies in that month which includes Firebirds as well OR just Camaros???? Mine reads 05. 048051 Is this May? and production number 4,8051?? I cannot find one person who can verify what this riveted plaque is for?? If someone knows can you plz reply.. Thx!
@CamaroTime
@CamaroTime 4 жыл бұрын
It is a tag that tells the people pulling and installing the parts that they have the right radiator. One group of numbers would refer to auto or manual transmission and so on. As you would not want a radiator for a manual V6 installed into a car equipped with an auto and a V8. Thanks for watching

There is a place in Canada that will make you a full size cowl tag for 91 and 92 Camaros which will perfectly fit on the radiator support area. I need to find the codes for the info that is on the tag. Whatever was listed on the late 80's cowl tags. We all know that Fisher body used many codes and I'm wondering if they are the same on the RPO list.. ? In other words, would the RPO codes be the same on the cowl tag?? I know the paint number would be the same.. I need to see a pic of a full size cowl tag from an 87 F body so I can have a replica made with all my info. If anyone has a clear pic of their late 80's radiator support cowl tag , could you please post a pic of it. If someone could point out the location of each option on it that would be great. Thx

Excellent video by the way Yes I do realize who your target audience is BUT The over riding feature of an IROC was the 5.7 TPI engine taken directly from the corvette And the major selling point from that day was the 245HP and 345 ft lbs torque. It is the defining point of being an IROC.
