It is SO incredibly wonderful to see you so happy and engaged in this project!! I'm loving every second of it. And if you haven't already, I'm voting for a corner arrangement.

This is why we love the channel. Not only do I end up fixing my health and loosing 16kg on carnivore.... I also discover a new useful putty. Amazing.

Hi Rick, I've had the experience of removing a cast iron bath that was installed in my mum's house, presumably in 1966 as there was some old newspaper under it from that date. It wasn't original as the house was built in the late 1920s. I had to use a sledge hammer to split it, I hated doing it, made a real mess with enamel and cast iron flakes everywhere. Moving the two halves was still a two man job, I can't imagine how they ever got it upstairs back in the 1960s.
@rickvanman2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing, Rob. Yes, I always suspected it’s removal would be a massive ordeal, your story has just confirmed it. Think I’m just happy to leave it there 😊👍

You could attach the foam to sheets of 1mm MDF or something and screw them to the wall to avoid damage and it also makes it modular

Best filler ever! I found it by ‘happy accident’ and I don’t use anything else now. I switched my home office to a smaller room too and I love it. I get so much more work done. Completely agree with your desk configuration. If you don’t face the right way the Feng Shui will be off ❤
@normatrodd66662 ай бұрын
Hi Rick, well I’ve immediately made a note of that great new filler you found. My sons will be pleased with that. I too have a cast iron bath and when I had the bathroom done the plumber advised me to keep it as if I didn’t they would need to smash it up in situ to get it out so I kept it and it cost me £500 to have it re enamelled 🙄. Those tiles were great fun made me smile seeing you in the bath. xx

Good Lord....I step away and come back to find you have ripped out a few rooms and are completely rebuilding a Podcast studio! lol....well, you seem to be enjoying this, so carry on. Btw, I think you mentioned that you had some extra lounger or wingback chairs? You know, Sean James needs a nice comfortable one as the one he purchased seems far too small and hard. Perhaps you could consider donating/selling one to him when you head up for a visit? Just a thought.....now back to work! You have offered me some ideas regarding noise dampening materials, so I am curious to see how you get on. But that foam stuff...what a lot of work! Washing and inflating and drying! YIKES!
@rickvanman2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the great comments. Not a bad idea regarding the wing chair. I was chatting with Sean this morning. I shall ask him next time. 😊👍❤️

The polar response pattern of a microphone is more important for close up vocal work, rather than whether it is dynamic or condenser. A cardioid response pattern concentrates on picking up only what is directly in front of it, and eliminates what is behind it. A condenser mic with a cardioid pattern is generally the best solution for close up vocal work. Some mics have a switch to allow you to change the pattern.

Hi Rick, another tip for you… might be worth investing in some corner bass traps. You want to try and “un-rectangle” the room and make it as uneven as possible. If you’re putting acoustic treatment in a shipping container shaped room it will make less of a difference because the shape just doesn’t like sound haha. Another idea might be to fit a curtain rail in the centre of the room and get a heavy sheet that you can slide in and out as and when you’re recording, that might help for the light pollution of the room too! Just a few thoughts 😊

Hi lovely. It was so funny to see that tub scene of your friend. I hope you are fine.
@Steve-rr8qf2 ай бұрын
Be careful with that filler Rick. If you don't give it a coat of primer before your topcoat it'll flash through and you'll end up with shiny spots all over your walls
@rickvanman2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the warning. It did seem to paint over just fine. 😊👍

So I'd say have the tiles in a chequerboard effect with a glass snow dome dangling. 😊 no of course not, but you've done it by the time you read this. Seriously, black stripe across the top and bottom, with grey band in the middle, with corner positioning. Cringe at the visuals of the bloggers face being covered up with one of those massive mics. I personally feel, the natural casual look of the person talking is what's needed. If lighting, audio equipment is visible, then the fourth wall broken. TLDR news have huge mics on their blogs, they're touching them adjusting every 12 seconds, it's very distracting.

HI Rick, I'm just pausing at 8 mins so i can comment, im likely to forget otherwise. Sumo Strip is one of these new technologies that maybe worth you trying, its absolutely fantastic stuff. I mentioned it to Sean to use to hang pics up in his new cottage. It works an absute treat can hold up to 15kg & definitely doesn't damage your walls, it may bexworth looking into or by the ti.e i have watched this video you may have finished the room😂Annie🏴
@SeaShoreAnnie2 ай бұрын
This is from the website, if you Google Sumo Strip you will find it. It arrives like cellotape on a roll so should be perfect for the job you have in mind it's double sided. I've no idea if it will work on that material but it works on most things I believe. "Hang, hold, stick or secure almost ANYTHING to… well, almost ANYTHING with Sumo Strip, the ultra-strong double-sided tape that holds up to a whopping 15lbs (7kg). Sumo Strip doesn’t use glue, it’s not an adhesive. It’s not even sticky. Instead, the INCREDIBLE holding power comes from its NEW UK invented nano suction technology! Despite its holding power, it can be removed quickly, cleanly & easily - WITHOUT DAMAGING surfaces or leaving any sticky residue. And because it’s waterproof & reusable, you’ll find so many uses for it indoors & out!"
@rickvanman2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the heads up, just looked it up, it’s essentially nano tape. I agree, it’s brilliant stuff, been using it for the last couple of years and my house contents are practically all held together with it 😂😊😁❤️

Your renovations are coming along beautifully Rick! You've given me a few ideas along the way too. 😀 Your spare rooms are about the size of our spare rooms...my husband has a small music studio in 1 of them and I have the other for crafts (and they have to have small beds and double as guest rooms when we have company staying..(it can be a challenge!) Lol.. I will look into the noise reduction panels you got from Amazon for my husband and that wall putty looks amazing. This is so much fun seeing your whole plan come together. I'm really enjoying the process! 👍
@rickvanman2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the great comments. Do please note, that the acoustic panels won’t do anything to reduce sound, they only reduce reverb/echo inside the room 😊👍❤️

I was going to suggest having the corner in the background to add depth to your shot, but since you're releasing these videos late...you've probably already built your studio and are half way through your podcast season 😂. Seriously, looking good Rick. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hi, is it because u r regularly using a wide angle when downstairs that your head looks fairly close to your lounge ceiling? I'd thought u were just very tall 4 that style of house - with decent sized lounges - but if it's a wide camera angle that would affect how it looks, wouldn't it?!
@worldofrandometry69122 ай бұрын
I thought that too, but look at the tops of the doors downstairs. They go almost to the ceiling. Upstairs seems different.
@rickvanman2 ай бұрын
Yes, the downstairs lounge and kitchen has a lower ceiling 👍
