Absolutely splendid! It's an old house that looks old; a perfect backdrop for their wonderful collections. So many places are redone to look 'slick', with black shiny marble and polished chrome or brass. The word that comes to mind with this place is 'patina'. While it evokes the fascination of a museum, it is comfortable and not fussy. I will have to learn more about this very interesting couple.

This is what the English do really well and it guess will take Americans a long time to adapt: really living with your things, things you have because they're beautiful and speak to you of a certain time and place, and not treating them like they're museum pieces, even if they are. I have a relative who married really well and they probably have way more money than this couple, but everything they own is chosen based on how "in" it is and how impressive it is to their social set, not any personal connection. Some of their things really are museum pieces but it's generic and boring and you could be in a model home in an expensive development or at a Restoration Hardware branch for how impersonal it is. Also, they would never allow pets on the furniture, and humans aren't much less restricted--it's one of those shoes-off, no ballpoint pens in the house kind of places.

I love the British and how quirky the culture is. North America is all about shiny and new and has no history in it’s interior design. Thus when you watch interior design shows the homes have the same aesthetic. These folks on this channel have a personal story to each item and what it means to them which I love!!

For Old houses such as this, I find that ambient light makes the oldness of the house seem like an old junk room. Hence, to soften the oldness and make any room look like a well thought out stylistically curated, eclectic ensemble, lighting must be planned out, too. During the day, the shadows work against an old room; so, the right type of light to accentuate the colors of the room should be employed. During the evening, shadows can be managed to create a variety of effects to soothe/excite the nervous system in order to create the sanctuary that we all want our homes to be.
