10 yrs ago when i was 15 someone in my neighborhood SKINNED my cat nemo & broke 1 of his legs. he survived, but lived the next 4 yrs with a limp & no longer allowed me or any human to pet him. it happened to my neighbors cat as well. This case is no coincidence I believe a “human” did this.

In an assembly line, one person dips a live rat/mouse into the water...it squirms violently for 4/5 seconds...they take it out pass it to the next person...this person rips/peels the fur off and at that point it slides off bc of the heat...the animal is still alive at this point...then it gets put in another bucket. From there it's pretty simple. As an animal lover it was revolting. But I'm glad I saw it. I'll never eat at another fast food chinese place like that again. I love authentic Cantonese though!

when 6 of my barn cats disappeared I assumed it was due to hawks, eagles or coyotes. A few years later when one of our dogs was outside howling we discovered him on our neighbor’s property caught in a meat baited trap, one that is only legal if used under water to grab rats or beaver. (The dog recovered well.)We also realized that these folks were responsible for trapping and killing our cats. They have been “put on notice” by my husband who is not a force to be played with and reported to our local environmental officer who also confronted them but by then they had hidden the trap. I am betting that one of the neighbors is trapping and killing those cats.

However, we used to allow them to hunt our land, (imagine being able to walk behind your own yard to go hunting without having to pay the property taxes!) then they rode their 4 wheeler back there and purposely scratched our friend’s new truck. When the officer arrived again (and he is sick of them too) he ticketed them for driving around with a loaded rifle and filed damage reports for our friends to bring to their insurance company. They were charged with harassment too but the state trooper (we have no local police department) failed to show up for court so that charge was dropped. Upon advice from the encon officer we agreed to have him and the cop on the scene to tell them we had ordered them off our property permanently and they would face trespass charges if they ignored that order. They had to pay $500 for the rifle infraction and I have no idea how the insurance company handled the truck damage. The truck was new, our friends had not even owned it for a full 24 hours and the local dealer had them switch it out for another new truck on the lot. Living in the country is wonderful but not without its own challenges particularly when dealing with some inbred local yokels.

That's why our cat stays inside. We even built a large screened area where she can go out safely. It's just too dangerous out there for them. My sister had a cat that just never came home and I even saw a red tailed hawk eating a cat (collar and all) on somebody's front lawn. If you care about your cat, don't let them roam around. They really do a number on native birds and wildlife too, no matter how well they're fed. It's just not worth it.

We were lucky with my first cat (my parents got before my bro and I were born, in the ‘80s) in that even though she was indoor/outdoor, she lived to 14. All our cats after have been indoor. My dad built a screened-in porch after we got kittens in 1997. There have been a couple of instances of small critters getting in (chipmunks and small birds) but my dad does try to seal the small holes up and they’re not big enough for any cat to get out. I do occasionally hold my cat and take her around the yard. If I let her on the grass, I’ve very close to her so she doesn’t run off. And in the winter, I put my cat in the snow at least once. That is also very much under my supervision and she runs right back on the porch wanting in. My other cat was the same.

100% This was happening in my town a decade ago, and it turned out to be a super disturbed young man. Especially given the fact it's all in a close proximity. That's very much the doing of a human living in the area, versus wildlife. As wildlife attacks are more at random due to the traveling nature of predators. The only other hope is that it's a crazy cat lover, like another commenter said, and they are all locked in a house with some person who thought they needed shelter.

But a few days ago one of my cats filtered himself through the high fence, even thou me and my husband were watching, then we were running around calling him and i was picturing all sorts of awful things. He was all the time across the road in neighbour’s yard fraternizing with their cat and refused to go home and they did not open the gates when we called. Only when it was already dark i came to their fence to yell his name the man came on his second floor balcony and asked can i help u, his cat was at his side already inside. I said yes, my cat is in your garden. Then he had mercy on me and came down and opened the gate and my cat when he saw me climbed over the fence and ran home. Now he is walking inside our yard ON A LEASH. Before he was roaming INSIDE THE FENCE without the leash.

Here is something gross and evil, I found out that my ex-husband's grandfather who had passed away thankfully; not rest in peace, hated cats so much that he had a garbage can full of water in his cellar that he would put random neighborhood cats in and drown them because they would hunt the squirls that would visit his yard. Cats are very intelligent and once in a while to just go out on their own. I now have sets of two leashes in both my front and back door (my yard is completely fenced, six feet high). She wants out she gets to wear one of the two sets. Why because she was an escape artist who learned to climb the chain link fence on her own. I am the old panic attack woman that had to find her, mostly in her way back home, where the food is.

We built a catio for our cats, and more ppl should consider this. Peace of mind knowing they are protected from predators, traffic, and psychos who set traps and put out poison. I’m really sad to hear so many have lost their cats. To me, this sounds like bad ppl are behind it.

Catios are the best idea! My cat has always been an indoor cat but she tried sneaking out the door a few times. She seemed curious about the outdoors but scared at the same time. I built a catio for her on the balcony and even put some cat grass in there! I installed a pet door in the window so she can go out into her catio whenever she wants to. We have a huge tree in front of our balcony so she gets to watch the birds and she also watches people and cars in the neighborhood. Another cat in the neighborhood keeps coming to visit her on the balcony too which is awesome. My cat seems really happy with the catio. She gets to get fresh air while still being safe. The main reason I didn't want to let her be an outdoor/indoor cat is because I live in Montreal and there's so much traffic here. I worry about her and I also don't trust other people. There are crazy people out there that harm cats.

It's very specific to use either chickens, cows, or pigs for celebrations, funerals, and rituals where the farm animal is then butchered to feed guests. They hunt squirrels and deer for food, but even those animals aren't used for rituals. Again, it's specifically farm animals that the shamans prescribe. I've never heard of cats or dogs being used or consumed by Hmong shamans. If pets went missing near Hmong people, it's probably because irresponsible pet owners let them roam. It's common for Hmongs to raise chickens, and other people's dogs and cats coming onto a Hmong person's residence is definitely a threat to the chickens.

Someone may be grabbing them to use as bait animals to train fighting dogs. Years ago some people from Detroit moved into our neighborhood & they had pit bulls who were quite aggressive. Shortly after arriving cats & small dogs started disappearing. The cats were free roaming but the dogs were taken out of fenced backyards. After a year or so the neighbors from Detroit had their rental house raided & LE found a fighting pit in the basement where they had been training their dogs & one of them told the cops they had taken cats & small dogs from the neighborhood to use as bait animals.

@@adamtedder1012 well there is the answer. authorities and residents need to organize a public information campaign aimed at haitians in creole or french to tell them it is illegal and unacceptable to trap and eat cats. they don't know and it is normal in their country. it is one of their favorite meats, they don't do it out of hunger, they love cat meat. they also see it as completely normal to snatch pet cats. happens on a daily basis in haiti. I lived there for half a decade. if no one tells them strongly and clearly, it will continue happening. the government is just dropping them off without any assimilation programs so it is up to residents. Make posters and signs. Haitian creole is available on google translate. have a town hall and explain it without being rude, but just strong and clear. it is a radically different culture and they will continue doing if no one tells them otherwise.

Back in high-school my friend's mom would feed the stray cats in the area. Then one day she noticed cats were disappearing. After asking around the neighborhood she found out this old man a few blocks away had been capturing and poisoning them. She called animal control on him but they did nothing.

my neighbor that moved away is a cat lady. People in the neighborhood let their cats out to roam freely. She would befriend , then take the cats into her home and not let them out ever again. she moved in with 2 cats. She moved out with 20 cats. she ignored the " missing pet" signs knowing she had the animals. Look out for crazy cat ladies in your neighborhood.

There was a case of some guy who kept rare birds. Cats used to hang around the cages and even managed to injure them through the wire. So the guy just set up traps in his yard. Over the years he caught dozens of cats, he'd just chuck the trap and the cat into his pool and drown them. It didn't matter if they were feral or someones pet. He was reported but the law could do nothing, the animals were on his property and he was losing money from them killing his birds. So the case was argued as eliminating a threat to his livestock. If you catch a fox on your property you are allowed by law to dispatch it. The lesson here is don't let your cats run rampant. Keep them inside and with access to an outdoor cat enclosure.

The great thing about indoor cats is they are always where you left them. They also live four to five times longer than outdoor cats. They Don't get parasites. They don't get in cat fights. Your vet bill is almost nothing, but you still need to take them to the vet once a year for a checkup. Check for all the signs of coyote in the area. Missing domestic animals is a common sign of their presence. Why would you not have cameras and trail cams set up if this is such a big problem? As for a human taking them, they would have to set up traps and those would be visible by others.

My cat was indoor out door and belonged to neighbors who kicked him like a football. So it's easy if the cat isn't used to being outside. You do know you have to open doors to go in and out your home and a cat can dart out faster than lightning. Also in rural areas people often have an indoor outdoor cat. I let mine out about 4 hours in the evening or he rushes out ....either way I hunt him down for him to come in if he doesn't come at dark. Not everything is cut and dry. It is very difficult to keep a cat in that spent months or years outside.

My vet always says that cat guardians should NEVER let their cats outside unsupervised regardless of the time of day or night! There is just too much danger! If your cat wants to go outside, use a harness and leash and train them to walk on a harness and leash. That's really the only safe way.
