Bittersweet story. Guess FL put up with his torment due to love and guilt for his father's death but her husband was unrelenting in his mistreatment for a full five years (certainly more than enough time for recompense). Turns out that he loved her and fought with those feelings by tormenting and by denying her physical and verbal affection throughout their marriage. The divorce changed everything.
