Stealth tent site (mi. 1030.8) to Dahlgren Backpackers Campground (mi. 1043.8) Slept in until the train started coming by every 15 minutes 😝. Good day today not quite as hot I didn’t think. I received a message from Steve Adams (Mighty Blue) this morning. He has a very popular hiking podcast which I was on after my return from Kilimanjaro earlier this year. He follows a few thru hikers each year on their journey, and he asked me if I would be one of them. I thought that would be awesome and said yes. He called me and we recorded a short interview that will air on his podcast on June 27th. It is called “Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail: A Midlife Crisis”. You can find it anywhere you find your podcasts. He usually has people on every couple of weeks to check in on them. I hiked hard until noon when it was the coolest part of the day then took about a half hour break. I went another 6 or so miles to a road crossing then hitch hiked to a creamery where I devoured a pint of strawberry ice cream. I asked a young guy and his girlfriend who were about to leave if they would take me back to the trailhead and they said sure. Ty! Drew & Kelsey!!
I got about 14 miles in then ended the day at a state park campground that had a bathroom, shower, and tent pads that’s for backpackers only …awesome. I’m still ahead on my mileage for the week, so I’m not fretting while this heat wave continues. Will get a good night sleep tonight then wing it tomorrow 👍🏻.
Todays menu: An extra large snickers, a cliff bar, a pint of strawberry ice cream, large protein cookie, 3 slices of pepperoni pizza, cliff energy bloks, protein bar, package of pop tarts, and tons of water with Gatorade mix.
