I was flicking through this book, The World of Ornament, awesome book by the way, and I found this pattern from the 12th century. I decided to have a go at constructing it, it took ages but it was really satisfying, I went into a full zen-like state drawing this one.
From the book: “This mosaic motif was done in marble and is from pavement. The composition is based on the principle of marquetry, hardly a flexible medium, and this probably explains why they have a more classical look.”
Radius of first circle: 2.5cm
Paper size: A3

I’ve become absolutely obsessed with your videos, and was even persuaded to bust out my old precision compass and try my own hand at the Yin Yang, and holy crap was that satisfying. I think you’ve introduced me to a completely new hobby sir. Thank you 🙏😊

Réflexion, concentration, le crissement du crayon sur le papier, la complexité du motif, la magie des nombres, chants d’oiseaux et de la mer (?!),… et au final, ce chef-d’œuvre ! Merci Zak ! 🙏

I agree with the idea to put notes in the video, it is not easy to follow and not easy to see the lines you draw. Love your work and would like so much to be able to do the same. Thank you ❤️

Watching you work made me think again for the umpteenth time how amazing it was that in a time with very few precision instruments people were able to construct designs like these, sometimes in three dimensions and scale them up to huge proportions! Loved watching this,Manx thanks for your info on materials, I could really do with that pen holder attachment thing….. lovely immaculate work, I like the multidimensional aspects of this.

I'm still a bit new to this but you make it look easy, thank you for sharing. I just found out that mostly all my straight rulers are not straight plus a dent on the table I was using lol. I was able to complete this pattern after checking everything was good to go. It was very satisfying to know I was having problems because my table wasn't flat enough. Thank you for all do brother.👍👍👍🎇✍🏽

For what it’s worth, the exact same thing happened to me lol. I randomly stumbled across these videos and wanted to try my hand at something I never had before, and at first I whipped out my now 20 year old high school geometry set, with a super shit compass, and it created super shit work. Then I remembered I had a precision compass, which is what he has but super pro, and now I use that and have like 15 new beautiful geometric sketches in my sketchbook that I love to colour in the shapes that emerge from it. If you have patience/focus, it’s a great hobby to explore. If you expect/demand perfection of yourself the first time, every time, than it’s maybe not for you haha 🤷🏻‍♂️

For some reason I cannot clearly see the drawing in process, nor do I hear any music. Just the sound of the pencil across the paper. Did anyone else have this experience? I can see the hands and pencil and ruler just fine, but not the pencil lines. Was interested in hearing the 'Epidemic Sound" music.
