At the Drive-In was founded in 1993 by guitarist Jim Ward and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala (then credited simply as Cedric Bixler). The newly formed band played its first live show on October 15, 1994 at the Loretto High School Fair in El Paso, Texas.
In November of 1994, using Ward's college savings, the band released their first seven-inch single, 'Hell Paso', on their own Western Breed Records. Following Hell Paso's release, the band members embarked on their first tour -- a 2,000-mile trek across the state of Texas.

Love this. Early ATDI had quite a retro R&B sort of vibe. Or pop, or I don't know, something 60s sounding. The vocal harmonies and Cedric's singing style and the rather clean guitars. The best comparison is think of is that cringy beat pop Freddie and the Dreamers, but there must be less cringy examples. "It's just punk, mate", yes I know it's punk, but there's more to it than that.

Nah this was done in a studio but it's quite raw because it was done live to two-track (I'm guessing DAT rather than analog tape if that was the cheaper option by the early 1990s). There are also no higher quality sources, because it was only released once on 7-inch.
