Oh my thank you for doing this! This one has been on our list for so many years! Still is and now we will know better how to approach. Hope to hit this year still.

Interesting hike. The black pool seems aptly named. The surrounding scenery makes the hike worth it.

A few years ago, we bushwhacked down along the south side of the creek from Spruce Lake and joined up with the Fern Lake Trail where you left it to cross the creek. It was surprisingly easy to walk because there wasn't much underbrush at all, maybe because the sun can't get to that side of the creek. Your bushwhack reminded me of that. That area is kind of sad to me because I remember how pretty it was before the fires.

Ooo, I have done this one, found some stunning elk horns on this hike on the other side of the water, lots of raspberries too. We did the steep drop off but we had lots of trees (before the last fire that came through) to hold onto and an easy crossing. We hiked out closer to fern which made for an easier exit.

Well, first of all, that log you went across. If I had been along with you, I surely would have fallen in the water, you know it! 😂. And, I saw all of t hose raspberries you passed up. Heck, you could have just left me right in that raspberry patch and I would have waited for you to do that hike..... Great one though.....and loved the clown music!!! 😅

Nice hike, I haven't seen anyone do this hike before. Forest Canyon looks rough though! LOL

Good one Nick, very green hike. Too bad about your pants.

@Naisium Those were the bushwhackers so they were already pretty beat up and the zipper doesn't stay up. But my mom sewed them back up again and they will live to see another hike!

Did you handstand walk across that log!? Looks that way to me.
@nicksangetta88742 ай бұрын
@pw2883 It felt like it! Lol. I'm not sure what the technique was called.. but it worked! I figured it was better than butt-humpin it on the way back.

Im confused about the Forest Canyon. If thats the Big Thompson river that runs thru it, how can there be a huge drop off to get into the canyon of you are already along the river (ie water flows down hill). I have heard that there is a huge wall you have to descend.
@nicksangetta88742 ай бұрын
@jmlincolorado I was just at the beginning of the canyon and Black Pool sits up high on a steep wall that leads down to the water. If I would have kept going north the river raises up in elevation and it all kind of flattens out.

Nick, have you ever worried about running into a bear?
@nicksangetta88742 ай бұрын
@tinasprague7792 Not really a bear as much as a lion. I have had my bear encounter already when I walked right up on one in the dark. The bears can be scared away.. but if a lion attacks I probably won't even see it coming. I will just be dead.

@nicksangetta8874 Oh my! Please be careful. I love watching your videos.

That's what I was thinking when Nick was in all that nasty terrain and by the water. Prime area for bears and lions to hide, since no one goes back there. Be careful Nick!
