It's one of many clever self-references to cinema in the movie, including the responses of the filmmakers while they watch Alex doing the climb. So in a brilliant way, what Alex is saying here is that he's not so affected by the movies, by the manipulation of images on a screen-- likewise he is not so affected by the Oscars, with all its pomp and circumstance. @Eventual Visitor pretty sure @truthdefenders was talking about the academy awards lol

He was up on stage because the filmmakers wanted him (and Sanni) there, not because he was receiving the award himself. And yes, I would think he had absolutely nothing to say!

his straightforward perspective is infectious... no lip service, no telling you what you want to hear, just an honest and self-developed perspective borne from pursuing greater heights in his skills and... well... height

Thrilled for the filmmakers that the movie won. Their work is almost as astonishing as the climb. Alex's win came when he scaled El Cap

@@brycechetwynd4932 We've seen it, as we know not a single person would have watched the documentary if they were just recording the wall. When they won the Oscars Jimmy Chins wife went straight to "its great there are woman and people of colour here, i want to thank this person and this person and this person" doesnt even mention Alex till the end as if he didn't make it what it is.

@@codykeane6107 might have been a joke, mentioning Honnold at the end. Also he said that he doesn't really care.

This is so great! Alex is the ultimate badass and it’s been incredibly entertaining to watch him on the “Free Solo” press tour. He takes the questions like classic Alex with the added grace of practice over the years!

Very well deserved Oscar and good and professional interview!!! I remember him in that disastrous Jimmy Kimmel's when despite the lot of stupid and irrelevant questions Alex remains humble and grounded. This guy is a unique human being, he is much more than a climber; he is a zen master, a pioneer. Great Alex Honnold!!!

literally just watched the documentary, just so blowed away how memorising it was... the high level of capability he has is insane, I love the way he came across in this interview you can tell that his true passion wasn't to make an film out of it... but only to pursue his passion & complete his childhood dream better questions could have been said but appreciate him being so chilled bout it all but I'm glad it won the Oscar highly deserves the recognition either way.

Alex is one cool cat, just seeing him answer questions shows why hes such a good climber. What I also found fun was the woman conducting the interview...she seemed very intrigued and excited during this interview, no doubt because Alex is so unique and not at all the type of person she would normally interview about the Oscars
