Loved, loved, loved working lower galley of this aircraft!!! I remember laying on the table by the window, looking out over the earth. It was night as we were flying over Kuwait, and the fires were burning off the gas in the oil fields. They extended as far as the eye could see. It was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my entire life. Thank you, ATA, for giving me those precious memories and moments.

I flew the L-1011 (f/o) for ATA and had a wonderful time... last of the great airlines that were FUN. Tons of memories from all over the world, REACH, DoD, everything...Charter, all the crazy stuff we did and places we went. I was told in training I would need to add pages to my Passport because they would all be filled with stamps from the different countries and that is exactly what happened. WONDERFUL airline and great crews.

WOWZA thanks for sharing, I preferred to do most of my work down there back in the 1980's and 1990's. When there was smoking on AC it was the place to be and well if yah had someone that was not good at taking care of all the food etc. etc. it made for a bad international flight or back in those days a bad Vegas turn. What fun. Miss those days, I was 22 when I started with ATA and work there for 10 years DTW based.

Thank you for this video. I so love this model airliner and I would do anything to be able to fly in one again as a passenger. The best plane ever! My love for the TriStar has inspired me to collect diecast models of it.

That was great! Never before seen a 360 degree view of the lower galley. Always wondered if there was a little window on the opposite side of the service door! My first flight at the age of 11 was on an Air Canada L-1011-1 in December of 1974. I'll never forget that experience, and as a result, the L-1011 was my fave!

I sure miss the L1011! They certainly are very impressive machines! I remember the beautiful galley lifts and the large galleys. I've never been in the the lower galleys so this very impressive video gives me an exact idea of what it was like down there! Very impressive! Great video!

Back in the early 80s. I was invited down into the tally of a DC-10. Down the elevator and up the ladder. It was St. Paddy's Day, and the stewardess were making a green floating cake for a Stewart's birthday. On the same flight I think as invited into the cockpit. Since 911.. all that is against the laws.

I still can't believe Air Trans was flying L-1011s in the 2000s lol...

This was American Trans Air -- not Air Trans. So many people were confused. Eventually, the company changed the name to ATA Airlines.

Is there a door into the forward cargo hold like on Passenger 57 and can you also get to the nose wheel?
@carlak1347 Жыл бұрын
There is no door leading into the forward pit, but we punched out a "wall" panel and climbed into the forward pit [to access cases of wine for the French around the world trip]. Watch video #2 to see the green panels. We simply punched out one panel and climbed on carts to get into the forward pit. No, you cannot access the nose wheel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2i1gpmjfrB_jqM

From a (now retired) friend near Montreal - >>>> I used to have to go regularly to Helsinki for directors meetings. For years Finnair used to fly YUL-HKI and used 1011s. Yes, I used to go down those elevators and would sit and play cards and drink wine and coffee with the staff. Air Canada also ran 1011s to HKI but they wouldn't let me go down to the galley. There's a "staff lounge" (for the lack of a better term) fore of the galley that isn't shown.
@carlak13473 жыл бұрын
On ATA L1011s, the area forward of the galley was just a forward cargo pit. No luxurious "staff lounge." Sigh...

Thanks for sharing video shots of what the lower galley looked like on an Lockheed L1011. Just curious, if the "lifts" failed to operate, was there another means of getting to the cabin floor like a ladder?

Oh, trust me, he did! My husband was an L-1011 captain! Hahaha! Honestly! He and I together helped a petite flight attendant climb up into the passenger cabin [because the flight attendants in the upper galley kept sending her up and down the lift and she couldn't go up]. She got the last laugh! [My husband was off-duty].

There most certainly is an L1011 - 100 series. All you have to do is Google it. ATA flew 100s and 500s. My favorite was the 100.
