True, although it seems the general (what's the word I'm looking for?) theme? of his lessons were to discourage Rey from learning from him and to make her own decisions (allow herself to be guided by the Force) because he was influenced by Sno..errr, Sidious, (yet all he could really sense was his failure and hubris). What Rey and Yoda did was make him realize he was, and that is (partially) why he projected himself on Crait. 1. He knows he's still vulnerable to influence. 2. He doesn't have time to raise the ship and fly there. Rey technically doesn't even get there in time to save them but she does rescue them. 3. He avoids all influence to harm Ben, (and Ben/Kylo can't harm him).

When Anakin goes to Yoda about his fear of losing Padme, Yoda does not tell him to confront his fear but to let it go, to accept what he fears may come to pass and to stop resisting it. That's basically an avoidance technique, to say what you're afraid of is going to happen so there's no sense in wasting energy to stop it. It doesn't, as a point in fact, address the fear itself at all, just avoids talking about it or acting against it, or even constructively accepting it. Luke's advice is much healthier. You are afraid. Face it. Just because you fear it, doesn't mean it will defeat you. He is suggesting she fight. A much better option than to passively accept her fate. One wonders how much better off the Galaxy would have been had Luke given his sister the same advice. If he'd told Leia to face her fears that her baby would die if she completed her training. Ironically, had she done that, it never would have come about. She would have become a Jedi not a Senator, would have been Ben's master as well as his mother. Without the weight of Senate responsibilities (and the need to avoid Ben at some level out of fear of losing him someday), Leia would have been free to make him a priority. Ben wouldn't have felt cast aside. Snoke/Palpatine would not have found a toehold into his heart. The Lightsaber Nightlight Incident wouldn't have happened. Ben wouldn't have fled or fallen. Maybe being dead does give the Jedi insight. Still not sure about Kenobi and his certain point of view crap, though.

"I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then. It does now." So I guess that was about Palpatine and Rey, not Kylo, in hindsight. Makes a lot more sense that Luke would be terrified of Rey reminding him of Sidious. Makes sense why he would refuse to train her, and help her only when she passed the final test: she threw away her lightsaber just as he did on the death star, before she fell to the dark side
@ATATChat4 жыл бұрын
Luke wasn't in touch with the force at that time so he wouldn't have an idea of who she was until the moment he reconnected trying to sense Leia. I'm pretty sure I remember Mark and Ryan discussing that line because of its ambiguity but then the comic / novel said "in my nephew". With that said, I think beyond ancillary material, that explanation does work!
@blackeyedlily4 жыл бұрын
I do love that line. It is one of those iconic lines that does resonate with the main themes of Star Wars. And I like how you point out that it reflects back to Luke’s journey in The Last Jedi. I’m always going to treasure Luke’s story in TLJ. Unfortunately I have so many other problems with this scene between Luke and Rey that I have a hard time focusing on that one solid point. I absolutely hate how they have Luke telling Rey that he and Leia both knew she was a Palpatine. I dislike that for many reasons, but especially because of how upset Luke was at Obi Wan and Yodi withholding the truth of his parentage from him. And don’t get me started on the whole Leia trained to be a Jedi. Not only does that contradict so much of her new canon story arc, but it really bothers me in relation to what she could have done for her own son if she had that background. Oh well, I guess I’m just ranting now. But yeah, I have a lot of feelings about this scene.

Question for you who knows a lot about editing (from someone who doesn't know the first thing). Do you think that this movie was reshaped (a lot or not) from its original intent through editing? Like, it seems that some shoots weren't intended for the scenes they got to be into (like for example Finn screaming "noo" when chewbacca seemingly died, it looked like he was reacting to another thing less dramatic; or so many scenes were characters are doing voices in off)? Maybe this happens in all movies, but i am just looking to much into them. Great video as always!

Interesting take on the mirror cave scene. I took it as Rey seeking personal validation of who she is as a human being through finding out who her parents were. So when she asks the mirror to 'show her her parents'. The mirror does exactly that. It shows her herself. Because Rey did in fact 'parentes' herself. She did so from the age of 5 (or 7) when she was dropped on Jakku and was forced to survive and take care of herself. She's a self-made woman and can take pride and satisfaction in that. So TROS in no way retcons out TLJ. Rey might have inherited her supernatural powers from her family, but everything else, her resilience, intelligence, ingenuity and character. Are all things she built on her own. She did not inherit that- and that is what made her successful. Not grandpa. Even if Rey is from a family with supernatural powers. It does not mean that the force isn't open to everyone. Since Broom Boy in TLJ and Finn--two nobodies- are force sensitive.

OK I am just going to make this comment for the hell of it because why fudge not it's about time and I already left this comment on another channel so here it goes..... If you ever want to sum up all three movies in the sequel trilogy here's a fun way to break it down... -The Force Awakens was like spending a day at an epic theme park that was so dope it made you feel like a child again and you want to do it all over again the next day. -The Last Jedi is a night at the art house with art displays that at first you can't wrap your head around what they are supposed to mean but at the same time you can't get your mind off of it because for some reason there's something about it that's so fascinating. It's not perfect but that's OK because you want to keep visiting it. -The Rise of Skywalker is equivalent to putting down a book that had so much going on and you can not wrap your head around what you just read it's left you feeling perplexed, conflicted, very emotional, slightly unsettled and confused. But somehow at the same time despite your conflicted sort of on-the-fence, middle of the road thoughts you want to read it all over again to understand it more and maybe you might like it there are things you might like or you feel even more conflicted and you're reminded why. You just find yourself thinking about this book a lot and you want to give yourself more reasons to talk about it every chance you get. All that while you're sitting comfortably in your lazy chair sipping your tea or coffee in front of a fire with a note book in your hand because you're getting inspired. So what is more of your style? Feel free to weigh in everyone.

OK been more serious now this is probably one of the more poignant scenes going of this movie I could clearly see it echoing what Yoda was trying to teach Luke in the last Jedi about failure but now it’s about confronting your fear and not letting your lineage for whatever define who you are Because of one member of your family being pure evil. This movie is trilogy was about one meeting their destiny and I would say that there was no other scene that says it more clearly than this one or lease this is just a few examples of that lesson. It’s no different than every other lead protagonist that had a moment like this and other stories out there Harry Potter being one of them frodo from Lord of the rings being another Katniss everdeen from the hunger games being another, It’s a classic moment of every hero and heroine is journey towards the middle and the end. You have a young lady being told from a wise old man the same one who didn’t want to help her initially in the last movie, she helped changed his perspective and wake up and go back to being the hero he was always meant to be until the end and as a payback he helps her continue her journey on defeating the greater evil. I never realized this till now and I’m glad this video got to make me look at it in a deeper context.

It's just another freak Jedi ghost power: Luke can summon length of hair 😜! Or maybe we could come up with wild poetic theories that hair which never ceases to grow marks the passage of time in the afterlife, suggesting that the Jedi get to live twice and consequently die a second time, as ghosts, possibly after fulfilling some new, reality-shattering tasks in the ethereal realm. Disney could make at least another movie about all the ghosts (throw Han in for good measure too) and their interweaving with Rey's solid world. I'd like that. But let the ghost movie be told from Ben's point of view 😍. And they shouldn't recast Leia, but use her absence as proof of a threat to both the ghost and the physical realms. She could be the first ghost to be devoured by the threat and the rest of them must discover, understand and work with the living to stop the threat (which ISN'T ghost Palpatine 😉, but a more sinister, far more powerful entity that I'd choose to have never been emodied at all. We could make it the illspring, or the source of the dark side).

Although The Rise of Skywalker was certainly flawed, I feel like it did a lot of good too. It gave amazing closure to Ben's character arc, gave us some fun action sequences, and some really memorable quotes. Overall 7/10, great ideas but the overall film felt rushed, some of the ideas still were executed well though even with the rush of the film.
@ultratankie4 жыл бұрын
My perspective is that the specifics of TROS feel almost too bizarre to be part of a real, bona fide Star Wars film, and the execution doesn't do much to help those ideas settle. That said, it ultimately does serve a place in the arc of the saga. Putting all nine movies together and watching them chronologically, you come away with a story about first romanticizing the past (the Rebellion and Luke fight to restore the Republic/the Jedi), and then de-romanticizing it (the Republic/the Jedi are shown to have never truly embodied what we were fighting for), and finally re-romanticizing it (Rey and the Resistance choose to embrace the myth of the Republic/the Jedi anyway, in the hopes that they will achieve that ideal in the future). TROS is incredibly nostalgic and reliant on familiar icons, but is that so bad when the ending of TLJ affirms that, yes, we *should* be inspired by those myths?

This scene could have been so much better. Both in special effects and dialogue, as while the lesson itself doesn't retcon The Last Jedi, I thought the dialogue lacked something that TLJ did have. It's just the way it was written and also the delivery of the lines from Mark, something felt off.

A Jedis weapon deserve more respect... What are you doing .... I was wrong... It was fear that kept me here What are you most afraid of Because you are a Palpatine Leia know it too Because she saw your spirit Your heart Rey, some things are stronger than blood Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi Your destiny... If you dont face Palpatine, it will be the end of the JEDI And the war will be lost... Theres something my sister would want you to have... It was the last day of her training... Leia told me she sense the death of his son at the end of her jedi path... She sorrender her saber to me and said that one day, it would be picked up again by someone who will finish her journy... A thousend generations live in you now... But this is your fight... You will take both sabers to Exegol You have everything you need...

Really liked this breakdown AT-AT 👍 Another home run. On another note, it looks like the idea of Ben's return is getting more mainstream. Here is an article by ScreenRant that talks specifically about how he can be resurrected after TROS. www.google.com/amp/s/screenrant.com/star-wars-10-theory-ben-solo-resurrection/amp/ Go check it out.

Rey: Did JJ like the last Jedi Luke: if he did then why did he use this film to retcon most of it
@ATATChat4 жыл бұрын
The only real retcon is the xwing story wise. Rey's heritage was expanded upon. Same parents. It's like Luke and the audience finding out "the other jedi" in ROTJ was Leia, who also turned out to be Luke's twin sister at the 11th hour. 🤟

I don't think he was "retconing" it to try to negate what happened before, but it was "retconing" it to tell the story he wanted to tell. Rey descends from the dark, but is light, and feels the pull to the dark; Ren descends from the light, but is dark, and feels the pull to the light. Rey is having this idea that maybe it was for the best that she was left alone in jakku.

ROS is a vain attempt to polish a turd. Playing familiar John Williams cues and recreating actual emotional moments from the original films instead of creating new ones with real meaning is pure desperation. You know it's bad when 'fans' are actually adding their own explanation of events because the plot of the movie was incapable of doing it in the first place.

Yeah. When you see it on your phone after recording it doesn’t look too bad. If it makes the news then you see just how bad it is.
