INTRODUCING LOW COST, MULTI CAMERA, LIVE PRODUCTION WITH ADVANCED BROADCAST FEATURES
ATEM Mini switchers make it easy to create professional multi camera productions for live streaming to KZbin and innovative business presentations using Skype or Zoom. Simply connect ATEM Mini and you can switch live between 4 high quality video camera inputs for dramatically better quality images. Or connect a computer for PowerPoint slides or gaming consoles. The built in DVE allows exciting picture in picture effects, perfect for commentary. There are loads of video effects too. All ATEM Mini models have USB that works like a webcam so you can use any streaming software while the ATEM Mini Pro model adds live streaming and recording to USB disks. ATEM Mini even has secret broadcast features built in so it can do high end work.
FASTER VIDEO PRODUCTION PLUS LIVE STREAMING
Live production is the fastest way to complete a finished program, plus you can stream it to a live global audience via KZbin at the same time. The USB webcam output of ATEM Mini connects to any computer and looks just like a built in webcam, so all streaming software for social media platforms work. With up to 4 HDMI inputs you can set up multiple camera angles such as wide shots along with independent close ups of each person in the performance. Or you can connect to a computer with a PowerPoint slide show, video clip playback, websites or gaming consoles. All switching is in real time so you can live stream to any social media platform such as KZbin, Facebook, TwitchTV and many more.
EASY TO USE AND FAST TO LEARN
There's never been a switcher that’s easier to use, as you simply press any of the input buttons labelled 1 to 4 on the front panel to cut between video sources. You can choose between cut or effects transitions by selecting the cut or auto buttons. Unlike cut, the auto button tells ATEM Mini to use a video effect when switching inputs. You can select from exciting transitions such as dissolve, or more dramatic effects such as dip to colour, DVE squeeze and DVE push. The DVE is perfect for picture in picture effects and you can instantly set up different picture positions. There is even a still store for titles and graphics accessible via external software control.
CONNECT UP TO 4 INDEPENDENT CAMERAS
With 4 independent HDMI inputs, you can connect up to 4 high quality video cameras. Video cameras with HDMI outputs are dramatically better quality than simple webcams as they use higher quality lenses and have better low light sensitivity. All video sources will re‑sync to the switcher if they operate at different video standards so you don't have to worry about connecting video devices as they all just work. Cameras with HDMI often support interchangeable lenses so you can change to wide angle lenses for wide shots and zoom lenses for close‑ups. Imagine taking advantage of the low light capability of better cameras for theater production, weddings, school concerts and music videos.
OUTPUTS TO HDMI VIDEO AND USB WEBCAM
To ensure maximum compatibility, ATEM Mini features a USB connection that operates as a simple webcam source. That means you can plug in and instantly get working with any video software. The software is tricked into thinking the ATEM Mini is a common webcam, but it's really a live production switcher. That guarantees full compatibility with any video software and in full resolution 1080HD quality. Choose any software you like, such as Open Broadcaster for live streaming, or Skype for Powerpoint presentations. ATEM Mini works with software and platforms such as Open Broadcaster, XSplit Broadcaster, KZbin Live, Facebook Live, Skype, Zoom, Twitch, Periscope, Livestream, Wirecast and more.

Very good overview, thanks for your time mate! You were a bit fast when showing the overlays but it's this part I really like and intend using the most (when I finally get my Mini Pro). I just don' know how I make the overlay from the start.. will check the manual ...

Hey, thanks for the positive comment. Yes you have full control over the PiP layouts within the ATEM Software Control - you essentially use the DVE in the upstream keyer to customise the scale and placement. The physical controller on the ATEM just has 4 preset layout options - which is fine if you're happy with using them quickly on the fly. Hope that helps! Kriss

Hi Holdan, is it possible to run this into OBS as a device either via the USB or HDMI (with an HDMI PC capture card)? Thanks for your help. Hey - Yes you can still run the output into OBS over the USB-C port. Although there are only a couple of presets in the ATEM for streaming, you can dive into the XML document that houses all of the streaming settings and create your own customised preset with whatever bitrates you want. Kriss

I am a videographer and editor for many years but unfortunately a late bloomer in live streaming so I mean a lot has gone over my head. I had purchased the mini Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini HDMI Live Stream Switcher on top of the U-TAP USB 3.1 Gen 1 Powered SDI Capture Device. Yesterday and those items where over $700. US. I canceled my order and decided to lean on getting the ATEM Mini Pro version watching your video helped so much with that.... But Now reading the threads from a lot of the professionals here I am wondering if I am on the right track not having Black-magic cameras or using DaVinci if I did want to do some post editing on the Mini pro version? Also I thought I had seen a channel where someone was saying you can stream live on Facebook and KZbin at the same time with the Studio subscription you'll need to login to your Facebook and KZbin account. You can simultaneously stream to most platforms with the Custom RTMP feature. does this make since ? A huge shout-out to your clean directive informative video very well done BRAVO! , you kept me engaged, and now I am writing comments and questions, which I never ever do LOL thanks bro... Bless you.

@@frankmolina5929 Thanks for the positive comment Frank. Ok a few answer for you: 1) Even without Blackmagic Cameras, the ATEM Mini Pro still brings along three key features that sets itself apart from the ATEM Mini. It has a built-in multiviewer, can record to USB drives, and hardware streaming encoder. If you have the budget, go for the ATEM Mini Pro. 2) Don't get mixed up with DaVinci Resolve and the Davinci Primary Colour Corrector within the ATEM Mini Pro's software control - these are different things. Davinci Resolve is the fully fledged video editing and colour grading software package, you can download the free version from Blackmagic, or upgrade to the studio version - this has no live streaming functionality but works with footage from pretty much any camera. The Davinci primary colour corrector within the ATEM software control panel allows for high level colour / and camera adjustments when using BMD cameras with the ATEM - it's really there so you can easily match all cameras for live shows, or even add a custom 'look' - again this has nothing to do with the actually streaming side of things. 3) There is no way of streaming to multiple platforms at once with ATEM Mini Pro without using a third party service. There are lots of services out there that will allow you to do this, they do typically cost and the free ones will usually overlay a watermark on your live feed. You stream directly to this third party service using a custom RTMP, they then replicate this feed and distribute to multiple platforms. I hope that answers your questions Frank :) Thanks for watching. Kriss

Are the 1-2-3-4 buttons the direct switch buttons or do you need to preview one of them first and use the CUT (or FADE) switch at the crucial point? If they aren't direct switch buttons, is that possible by using the ATEM software panel?

Hi, Kriss. Lloyd again. Love, love, love the ATEM mini pro. Quick question: ATEM manual says power on first, then plug video sources in. Presumably because the ATEM senses what is being connected to it--especially for Camera 1 and setting the input format. Do I need to unplug the video cables every time I power down the ATEM and then plug them all in again each time I power up the ATEM? I would really like to leave everything connected. Hey Rick, thanks for the positive comment. Two points from me: 1 - if you're wanting to record your programme i'd opt for the Pro - as your HDMI output is going to a projector, if you wanted to record using the ATEM Mini to record you would need to be a third party recorder that is connected in the chain before or after the projector. 2 - If you're wanting to live stream on top of recording i'd also opt for the Pro - as you can live stream via the ethernet so you can still use the USB-C port for the recording. 3 - if you don't require the above then the ATEM Mini will do the job just fine for you :) Thanks for watching. Hey, 1 - The multiview controls allow you to switch around programme/preview, tuggle audio meters, safe guide, and change labels. @Holdannews
@Holdannews 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you're feeding into it - if it's just a single microphone then that's just a mono signal anyway so no point in duplicating it. If you're outputting a stereo mix from an audio desk then i'd use them both - assuming that you're going to stream in stereo and not mono that is. Depends on the graphics, if it involves motion then yes, run that into the ATEM using a HDMI adapter. If you need to overlay it on another source just make sure the video file with the graphic has a background you can just key out in the ATEM. If it's just a simple lower third you're looking to do, then you could just use the free photoshop plugin - providing the Macbook Air is on the same LAN it will automatically push the graphic to the media player within the ATEM. Cheers Kriss

@Holdannews

So the Multiviewer will show the audio levels for all of the audio channels (either embedded through the HDMI inputs or connected to the 3.5mm inputs). This only showing the graphical levels, it's not actually outputting all of the audio sources through that HDMI output - it is simply outputting the programme mix. @Holdannews
@Holdannews 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Guys - i've seen a lot of likes on this post so i'm assuming there's a lot of you looking into this. Perceived streaming quality isn't the main selling point to using the hardware encoder within the ATEM over a software based one on a computer. Ultimately they are doing the same thing, encoding audio/video into H.264 and packaging that up using RTMP for delivery to a live platform. If I set the same H.264 encoding settings on the ATEM and on the software based encoder (such as OBS), I should in theory get the same perceivable quality on my stream. So, why bother using the ATEM for streaming then you may ask? The performance of a software based encoder on a computer is completely reliant on how good/powerful that computer is, as it is the computer that is doing all of the heavy lifting processing that RTMP stream. The more you push the software encoder, the more CPU processing will be required. If you're only using the one laptop to both encode the stream and also monitoring the stream on the live platform, moderate incoming questions etc, and any other tasks, then this can become alot for it to do at the one time - and at some point it can become too much for your computer to handle all of these processes, and if so, your encoding will suffer - you can get dropped frames or worse the encoder can fail. The limit of this point of course is determined by how powerful the computer is. Shifting the heavily lifting to the encoder within the ATEM Mini Pro elviates that processing power from your computer - the encoder within the ATEM has a dedicated chipset for that sole purpose - it is designed to encode that audio/video day-in-day-out in H.264 and therefore it is incredibly reliable. This is the main selling point for shifting from encoding using something like OBS, to a dedicated hardware encoder, such as the one within the ATEM. It doesn't matter at all the spec of the computer you're using the monitor your live stream, because its not doing any of the work - in theory you can run a live stream from the ATEM without a computer at all. I hope that helps answer your question guys. Thanks for watching as always! Kriss

Hello @@Holdannews, while perceived encoding quality isn't the main selling point, it's still a very important detail. Especially those of us, which need to gain the best possible encoding quality with a quite low transfer-rate wanna know how good the ATEM Mini Pro performs in comparison. However there is much more to chose from than bitrate when when optimizing the settings for the encoder. Settings which would change the inter frame compression strategy of the encoder. For instance if the encoder will try to detect all the motions or when the encoder will just update the whole image area. It would be quite interesting to know, how many optimizations the ATEM Mini Pro is doing for inter frame compression. Because usually hardware encoders like Nvidia NVENC, Intel QuickSync or AMD VCE tend to deliver less quality at the same bitrate than the x264 software implementation with a slower cpu preset. So I'm sorry but you didn't really answer the question. And I'm sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language.

Also extremely cool to see you have an advance copy of the mini pro. Several questions come to mind, In the product description listed on B&H Video it says, "Hardware encoder so there's no need for additional streaming software" My first question: 1) So, in theory, does that make software such as OBS, vmix et all redundant and you would only operate solely from the MINI Pro? 2a) If it does, will that feature change a lot of member's workflow or set up on live stream shoot's for the project where you don't use your OBS or vmix? 2b) If it doesn't, doe that means you will use OBS or mix to live stream, and since vmix or obs still views the mini pro as a single video source, how will it look when you preview the video in vmix or OBS? will it see a single camera, or will it see the new multiview layout?
@Holdannews
@Holdannews 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there - some answers for you: 1) Correct, you don't need to use software on the computer for the encoding should you not want to. You could in theory (providing you've saved all of the stream details in the ATEM already) just plug the ATEM Mini Pro into your internet router and stream within seconds. 2a) It doesn't alter much of the setup/workflow using the encoder built into the ATEM Mini Pro - instead of inputting the streaming details into OBS, you simply input them into the ATEM Software Control panel and stream from there. The rest of the workflow is pretty much the same. 2b) Answered above (i think). Thanks Kriss

It's ProRes (Video Assist) vs H.264 (USB-C recording). If you're not live streaming then you can set a healthy high bitrate for that USB-C recording to a drive which should be fine for most purposes. However, if you are live streaming, then it will have to be a lower bitrate as it has to be the same for both recording and the live stream. I would see myself using the USB-C recording 95% of the time, primarily due to wanting to use that one HDMI output for the multiviewer. Kriss
