The Destiel meme was such a big deal because the show confirmed the most popular ship in the series and then immediately damned one of the characters to what was essentially super hell right afterwards. They confirmed the ship in the worst and most baffling way possible and many folks interpreted it in a “bury your gays” sense. And this was in the last season. Over a decade’s worth of TV show ruined by a single, bizarre writing choice.

I did dracula daily!!! It was so much fun, and its going to happen again starting in may next year if anyone wants to do it! (and theres a podcast adaptation being made that will be released on the same dates!) The lizard fashion meme is about how dracula climbs up and down his castle's walls, which our good friend Jonathan Harker calls "his lizard fashion" multiple times. It was a lot of fun to find out what the book is actually about, be retroactively baffled by the choices made in basically every adaptation, and get to know these characters (i feel like bram stoker was really good at making interesting, nuanced and enjoyable characters that i just want to rotate in my brain forever, and their relationships!! You really feel how much these characters love and care for each other, theyre a lot more affectionate than i expected victorian era characters to be) as well as reevaluating the elements of the novel that werent okay at the time and arent okay now, and how bram stoker probably being queer affected his work, i personally find the internalised homophobia pretty apparant here. Also there was a dracula daily sexyman bracket where drac went out in his first round and mina harker won (queen, train fiend, my absolute beloved) and overall, getting silly little emails from 125 year old characters is just really fun

22:29 I dont think the main body of Dracula was rewritten much for Dracula Daily. It is an epistolary novel (so what the characters live through is written as if it were diary entries, letters, news articles) which already seems like the characters are talking to you by themselves. Dracula Daily just sent them out on the day they were set with slight reshuffling for an info dump we get as a flashback on a later date originally. The snarky email-like parts are the short explanation of the chapters and additional notes after the original Dracula part. Was very fun though, to have a small reading snack delivered to you every few days, Im definitely gonna do it again next year. This year even the days of the week fit the dates of the book so it felt even more meta/in real time. In the end Dracula Daily recommended a few similar newsletters (like Penny Dreadfuls or one Moby Dick project) and I signed up to some. Finally I understand why stuff like Pulp fiction (the type of novels not the movie!) were sold by the chapter.

as a survivor of november 5th 2020 on tumblr I can say that was the most chaotic day in my entirety of being online, it was every five seconds a new weird thing was going on and even having never watched supernatural and tbh kinda hating the show I was forced to learn the updates on the spanish dub and the destiel confession memes and the fact that a rumor of a dictators resignment spreading because of said destiel confession and there was a "do you love the colour of the sky" post featuring all the events of that day that I got on my dash 4 TIMES in a row [okay there may have been one unrelated art post between two of those sky posts but still real close together] and it was an ever changing thing. Normally I learn about things through memes like a day or two after it happens, this was going on in real time. I'm fairly sure there even was a rumor post about the dashcon ballpit baby being found??? Also, happy to say I'm not an uncultured American as I've been following Eurovision for quite some time because I just love the concept of countries sending their best, or straight up trolling like Lithuania did one year with a song called "We Are the Winners" in 2006 or Russia sending babushkas in 2012, musicians so they could win not only a glass microphone trophy but also the right to host the next. Or do what Monaco did and win the 1971 contest but not host the next year because they're too dang small to find a suitable arena to host. Ever since I found out that ABBA, my favorite pop group, got popular because of winning Eurovision with Waterloo (which was controversial as Eurovision typically doesn't allow songs about war), it made me intrigued. And the geopolitics of it all got me hooked, on top of Epic Sax Guy who made even more people learn about Eurovision (a shame Moldova didn't win when he returned in 2017)

Dude, Dracula Daily was absolutely worth it. The memes roped me into it, but it's genuinely a really good read, and there was a lot of plot in there that pop culture completely glosses over. Lizard fashion was certainly a highlight, everyone just frickin HATING Dracula once the vampire hunting began, that one sailor whos multilingual and uses that skill to cuss people out, my favorite rootin' tootin' and shootin' vampire hunter Quincy Morris, Van Helsing's farming metaphor that goes on for FAR too long, Jonathan's anime girl hair transformation, knife husband and gun wife (Jonathan and Mina Harker are an absolute power couple).
