Thank you for this, especially the demo of how to use dumbbells. I'm 66, and have been a dedicated follower of your channel for some time now, because of the importance you place on proper biomechanics. I've been through a LOT of PT over the years, and I can tell you know your stuff. Back to the dubmmbells: I go to a very popular gym, but they don't have "free" bars. And the apparatus they have only allows the bar to drop so far. So to compensate, I stack a couple plates under my feet to give me as close to full range as possible. But I'm excited to try the dumbbell method now. Thank you!

Love coming back to these videos. I knew and do almost everything stated here, except for when I use dumbbells, I have been forcing myself to put them straight in front of my knees instead of angled. Doing a quick try of this, I realised how awkward it has been for me! So even though I've been doing them correctly for years, hopefully this tip can help me engage even more. Thanks for putting every little nuanced thing into these videos!

RDL demands way more respect than people give it. Of the big 3 lifts, deadlift is the one that'll punish you the hardest for mistakes. And the one that'll haunt you for years if you forget. Years ago I forgot and it put an end to powerlifting for me. Wasn't paying attention on a heavy lift, felt my hips weren't right so adjusted mid-lift. The smallest of adjustments but it was enough to herniate two discs. 17 years later and I've mostly managed to rehab it enough to where it's not a constant issue.

As a novice in weightlifting I find this exercise one of the most difficult ones. I did it once (the first time), thinking that I knew what I was doing, and after four reps my lower back had it. Not nice. Thankfully I recovered relatively quickly from the injury and pain that followed. This video came in at the right time. Let’s see how it goes now. Many thanks.

Friendly tip as a former novice - this exercise is very susceptible to ego lifting, which is where you can really hurt your back. Start light and make sure you're actually feeling the contraction in your hammies and glutes before moving up. 👍Good luck!

I like RDLs (I use dumbbells when I do them) but man I've had to switch them out in my current routine, I got tired of month after month of having incredibly sore hamstrings for 5, even 6, days afterward. And that's not using an insane amount of weight, only 45 lbs (less, honestly, will still do it) in each hand does that. I could do seated leg curls with much more weight and never get sore at all.
