maira I essentially did the hang for a minute every morning to decompress my spine and doing the back 'Grab' that Jeff shows for every 30 mins or so after sitting down. But now I'm going to include squats into my routine Get up and move every 30-45 mins of sitting and do these: 1) Back grab - 30 secs 2) Squat against the wall - 5 reps Also I use a postural band when I work to remind me to sit with a proper S curve

VIDEO SUMMARY 1. Morning hang 60 secs 2. GBS every 30 mins of sitting down 3. add face pulls to your workout routine 1. Morning hang 60 secs - toes in contact with ground (either hanging down on a bar or just pushing up on a counter corner) (what it does: keep toes touching the ground for your pelvis to be able to drop, to decompress your spine) 2. GBS - every 30 mins of sitting down - Grab / Bridge / Squat Set a 30 min timer whenever you sit down, to interrupt the sitting every 30 mins, with GBS. (after your first 30 mins of sitting down) G - Grab: stand up and grab your butt cheeks (what it does: hip extension, knee extension (no tight hamstrings), open up shoulders and chest, increase thoracic extension) 15-20 sec hold, then 30 sec active hold (squeeze glutes, contract shoulder blades together) (sit down for another 30 mins) B - Bridge: bridge + reach up and over to the opposite side with your hand; 5 reps each side (what it does: active contraction of glutes, additional effect on the thoracic spine by reaching over towards the opposite side) (sit down for another 30 mins) S - Squat: wall-sit, but deep squat, wide (for hip mobility, additional plus: ankle flexibility) reach arms up back behind you, slide them up (your hands may or may not be able to touch up there) 4-6 reps (or 3??) (thoracic extension, activates rotator cuff ( internal rotation sitting)) + sit in deep squat 30 seconds additionally (sit down for another 30 mins) REPEAT GBS 3. add this to your workout routine: (you know it) Face pulls (gym version or doorway version) (what it does: strengthen upper scap, upper back muscles, and rotator cuff)

If it's any consolation, it's 40% more likely, which means that if your likelihood of dying in the next 15 years is, say, 5%, it's now around 7% (40% of 5 is 2, 2+5=7). This isn't to say you shouldn't do something about it, nor that there aren't any other issues sitting down so long can cause, but it is a lot less scary than the phrasing makes it seem.

My posture has dramatically improved in the last 3 weeks all because I started taking KZbin ballet classes. I'm amazed at how quickly it's improving just doing ballet 3 times a week and stretching in between. I like that I'm getting some exercise and doing something fun while working on my posture :)

Thats good to hear, I try to not sit as much as I can. It just makes me feel so run down
So what about school then when every lesson is an hour long and I have 5 of these. Do I just get up and stretch halfway through class?

I have got into the habit of weight training every day, since lock down, all the postural stuff I do all this automatically thanks to you Jeff, I find myself stuck in the house sitting down a lot and for the first month or so I got into a right old forward Lane, got myself out of it by instinctively doing stuff like this, repeatedly throughout the day, every little helps, and I feel 100 times younger and fitter because of it, it’s miraculous how much little hints and tips like this, adjust your posture and all of your bodily functions, breathing, even bowel movements et cetera, it helps all of it On that point, Jeff have you ever heard of visceral somatic inhibition

Jeff when I begin my first brige I hear and feel a pop in the top of my hamstrings Is that bad? If so how do I fix the problem?
@ashmaypt4 жыл бұрын
Hey man, if the pop isn't painful then it isn't bad and isn't a problem which needs fixing, it's just things moving and caused by your genetic structure, however if it hurts then I'd suggest getting it looked at. Hope that helps!
