Since it came up a couple of times in the comments: Besides the marketing obligation, there was also a distribution obligation discussed in court. Nike offered to bring LFC kits in “not less than 6,000 stores worldwide” and LFC argued that NB cannot match that in good faith. But the judge dismissed this argument, finding NB‘s distribution offer to be genuine and concluding that the brand had therefore matched Nike’s distribution promises. The latest update is that although the Nike contract starts June 1, LFC will wear New Balance until the end of the season and possibly lift the Premier League title in their old NB kit. For those saying Nike use templates, true, but their top clubs get unique kits where those kits become a template for smaller clubs a year later. The only basic kits will be the keeper ones. NB may be more unique, but other clubs with NB all have the same away kit and third kit templates maki h only the home kits unique. So Nike will be more unique given that it’ll be Liverpool exclusive for a year.

As I recall, this wasn't just an issue of famous athlete sponsorships, it was also about the fact that NB could not support the huge international demand for the kit. NB simply did not have the same level of distribution and global access to consumers that NB did. I am a Liverpool fan myself but there aren't any NB shops where I'm from. The only reason I own a Liverpool kit is that I'm currently a university student in the UK.

Ah that's fascinating how Nike won that battle using superstar endorsements over straight up cash. Liverpool are my favorite EPL team and Nike are the sportswear brand I rank as a personal number one with Asics a close second because of the comfortable, lightweight sneakers they make/made. So it makes me happy to see them win the kit sponsorship rights to LFC. Early on a lot of reds fans wanted either a return to adidas or the retention of NB, and as much as I respect those sports brands for the good products they've made it's exciting for me that Nike have come in at a time when Liverpool are becoming a force again. That means Liverpool would have had leverage in the negotiations to have some input in kit design but also Nike will be motivated to get their best people on it. I've seen what their best design people have done for teams like Manchester United, Leeds united, Valencia, PSG, FC Barcelona

I live in Brazil and i found really hard to get Liverpool merch.....last year i was in one of the NB stores in Sao Paulo to buy the new shirt. Everytime i asked they never had a shirt. By that i trust more in NIKE, you will always find what you are searching for, there are 3 stores of NB in here and 30 oficial NIKE STORES.... Also, will miss NB kits, they are really nice! and we all know NIKE designs are almost copy/paste templates....but at lest i will find and buy with no problem! Thank you for the video, keep up!

One other invaluable thing is how the Nike tick on the Liverpool kit will affect the mentality of each player at the club compared to a new balance logo. Nike is a club of greatness itself. I washed by accident my NB Liverpool Jersey at 40 degrees and it totally destroyed the emblem, NB logo, and sponsorship logo. I washed my 2010 adidas jersey for years never caring about the wash settings and it’s still the same as it was the first day I bought it.
