So true. It just takes one person at a time to correct this steady progression of immodesty. I think it’s important to keep talking about!

*The idea of "modesty" is an absolute joke. God created us to be fully naked with NO SHAME and it was only when we started seeing the world through our eyes rather than through God's eyes that we started viewing our bodies as disgraceful. 99% of clothing has nothing to do with trying to be provocative, it's just the person wearing what makes them comfortable. Clothing doesn't influence evil actions, immoral character does.*

My child wears 2 piece bathing suits all the time, tankinis and other more covering styles (surf shirts, shorts, etc,) but long torso girls can either wear suits that are dangerously too big or that could have nip slip from the neck getting stretched down their torso, or cost way too much for something that will only be worn a handful of times before they outgrow it. A two piece bathing suit is the modest choice in this case. Not that I'd buy her a string bikini, but if someone is having lust because they saw a kid's bellybutton, they are the one with the problem.

Thank you, Elisabeth!! There is a girl who I was a camp counselor with last year and she always wore knee length skirts! Even while horseback riding!!! Great video. Definitely very helpful, especially as we are in the summer season. It's just so a casual thing these days, considering how super revealing bikinis are today. If my undies were showing, people would say something, right? But if I were to wear a bikini, no one would bat an eye. A friend pointed that out in a tweet I had seen weeks ago. Thank you for pointing out how we women need to frame the modesty question. It's certainly important to respect others, and therefore, respect the eyes, but if you're gonna ask yourself, "Am I gonna cause a man to sin... my brother etc", okay, that's already doing the modesty thing wrong. Oh, and one last thing, yes, thank you so much for pointing out the difference between a woman being revealing & a man. A shirtless man is not the same thing as a woman being revealing.

Roots of foundations matter!!!

Love the theology of the bellybutton explanation at 7:20 as the difference between men and women exposing their mid-sections. Also, there are many women who can top your embarrassing story, as I have seen the whole top come off in ocean waves on more than one occasion. Lastly, when I was in Kuwait as a Marine where women are dressed like the Blessed Mother (not in the oppressive full burkhas in Iraq which cover even the face), I have to say that there was an appeal and fuller attraction to those women which was much deeper than what I felt from the "let it all be seen" mentality of American women. It was definitely a "less is more" thing (i.e., the less seen, the more attractive they became).

C P I don’t disagree! It did help me value the importance of modesty though... As it seems there is a culture surrounding people who dress modesty and those who dress a bit more risqué... I'd encourage women to still continue swimming. And enjoy the waters with your kids. Being in water is healing for our emotions, lifts up the spirit and is gentle on the joints. I feel renewed after a swim and grateful for God's creation. We spend 9 month in water in our mother's womb, which is one of the reasons why being in water feels so good to us. There are one piece swim suits that are less revealing, tankinis, panties instead of slips etc. When out of the water you could change into normal clothes or wear a bathrobe.

I honestly do not believe that you should feel embarrassed about this. It sounds as though you felt good about how you looked given that you loved wearing skimpy bikinis and those boys seemed to agree with your self-assessment. Those boys are the ones who should be very embarrassed about their conduct. I applaud you for your forgiving attitude towards those boys and your kind statements about the larger population of males. I just pray that those boys realize how lucky they were to have avoided serious legal trouble over what they did (I would bet money that they do realize this in retrospect and have many times felt a chill run down their spines when recalling this incident) and have since repented.

Sigh...yeah well we live in a desensitized world...it seems that the further the world falls into darkness the closer it tries to push the boundaries of flirting with sin...it seems that after the line has already been crossed we or Satan move the line in front of us so that we don't feel or believe we have not crossed the line. I honestly don't understand the purpose of the bikini at all except that the earliest forms were a way to see how revealing one could be before they were considered naked.

Why is it that women only figure this stuff out AFTER their late teenage years when they are most vulnerable to the sexual predations of men? In the meantime, protective Dad's are knocking themselves out trying to get the problem across to their teenage daughters who are all like, "Right, Dad, you just don't understand!" No, daughter, we DO understand, we're MEN, remember?

Not knocking on anyone’s choice of what they wear; I dress pretty modestly overall but do wear a bikini. The last time I wore a one piece bathing suit was at 15 yrs. I refuse to wear a one piece because I don’t want to feel like I’m 12 again. 😅 a tankini on the other hand, I associate with middle age women as well as overweight...I don’t fit those demographics either...😅 I had “nip slip” too, but I’m lucky to not have anyone see besides family. 😆 I do want to add that many Christians especially Catholics do say the responsibility rest on the women on how they dress around men. This is unfortunate because I believe the man has a higher responsibility concerning his eyes and thoughts. In art classes, I’ve drawn the naked bodies of men and woman and I just see a unique person, not a sexual object. If a man wants to look at a woman and objectify her/undress her with his eyes, he has the problem. Even Jesus said, if a man (or anyone) looks at a woman (or anyone) in lust, he has the problem of adultery.
@alimariehere
@alimariehere 6 жыл бұрын
I understand! And I didn’t wanna bash anyone who chooses to wear one either, because it is super modern and “in” right now. I think the association with a tankini being in a different demographic is interesting! Why not help bring it into ours so OTHER women our age feel comfortable wearing one?? As far as the reference, Jesus states that if someone looks on someone with lust that they have committed adultery with them in their heart. That’s not saying 100% of the onus is on the man... Women are still called to dress modestly and appropriately. Sometimes I think of some of our Saints who died defending modesty, and I wonder what kind of bathing suit they would choose to wear in today’s day and age. Just interesting to consider, I think! As I said- I think it comes down to personal conviction, and God works in every way we allow him to ☺️ Thank you for your honesty!!!

Ali-Marie Ingram I agree, with personal conviction! I believe many saints would’ve dress modestly as well for themselves and God, not other people. I understand your point with making takinis (and one pieces) something for us millennial, not just older ladies and children, but that hesitation is there...the designers, stores, and magazines can have a big influence on that. Some one pieces are coming back in fashion. Modesty seems to be making a little comeback.. I should’ve clarified, sorry, I meant for me to not get on others for their choices! 😅

Being ashamed of your image is being ashamed of God's and He didn't create us to be ashamed of His masterpiece and bury it down to where nobody can see it, He created us to display our art in a museum and be happy when someone gazes upon our beauty. That's why people like David, Esther and Isaiah all got elevated when they did this but Vashti, Micah and Isaiah's critics, who bashed them for it, got kicked to the curve. That's also why people today, who flaunt their bodies, make it big while people who bash them fade into nothing.*

Even if I could untie a bikini, I wouldn't. Besides, I think I'd be slapped by both the woman and myself.

*Read your Bible and you'll see it says that God created us nude with no shame. This was because in God's ideal world, we embrace our bodies as a physical reflection of God's spirit. God is an artist and we're His art 🎨 therefore, when you embrace yourself, you embrace Him. The reason Adam and Eve immediately hated themselves after they sinned and covered themselves is because they, in sinning, turned away from God and therefore turned away from themselves since their bodies reflected God. God didn't give them clothes because He chose to and He was "covering us in His glory"; that entire context was telling us about how we fell out of His glory. Clothing only came into play when shame, brokenness, evil, and sin did meaning that it's a symbol of these things and the broken bond between God and man. @@wake4082 You probably didn't, but you're right about there being depictions of naked people in art. I went to art school. I was creative from an early age, but I felt like it really took off at art school. I kept signing up for visual arts and performing arts classes, and I ended up staying there from 2005 until the pandemic happened. In fact, I believe I'd still be there if that hadn't happened.

With time the world becomes more and more distant from Christ. Each day we choose to serve ourselves or to serve Christ. each day we appear to resemble a closer reflection of the world by blending in or a closer semblance of Christ and stand out as different from our culture. If we call ourselves vegetarians it means we abstain from meat, if we call ourselves Christian, it means we are Christ-like, acknowledging that we surrender our rights to ourselves and now become Gods property and exercise our love for Christ by following his commandments. This includes abstaining from sin. while sin is inevitable, it is also unacceptable. If it is the thoughts that defile a man, what thoughts are you attempting to stir in a man by displaying intimate portions of female anatomy? Sexual anatomy is designed to trigger sexual chemistry and prep for the act of intercourse. Covering portions of the body in such a method that the skin is not bare but all is still revealed through the fabric accomplishes what delusion of modesty? does it gain points towards God's approval? God has already made known his will (and anything opposing Gods will is sin). Gods will as in scripture is for both men and women to cover their body beyond that of apron: To obscure the thighs and chests. a face holds beauty, yet sexual parts are intended for sex and sex is only for husbands and wives. to expose someone who is not your spouse is an attempt to rouse sexual desire unlawfully; which if accomplished , results in sin from the one tempted and greater sin from the one who tempts. Is this objective helpful or harmful to Christs purpose? are you serving Christ or yourself? remember Judging and preaching are two different things.

I think this comment contains amazing sentiments! Ultimately with the bikini being water proof lingerie in the beginning, it is very easy to say it is unacceptable for us, as Christians, to wear in public.

*The idea of "modesty" is an absolute joke. God created us to be fully naked with NO SHAME and it was only when we started seeing the world through our eyes rather than through God's eyes that we started viewing our bodies as disgraceful. 99% of clothing has nothing to do with trying to be sexy, it's just the person wearing what makes them comfortable. Clothing doesn't influence evil actions, immoral character does.*
