I heard so many things about one can not fly downtown Atlanta within 5 miles of thE Capitol Building or Gov House . Is this True or not ?

There are restrictions on flying a drone in the city, however that one I haven't heard of it. Not sure if it's true about within 5 miles, I'd say just 1 mile.

There is a five mile rule, and a controlled airspace rule. And there are differences between what a hobbyist and a licensed Part 107 pilot must do. (A person who flies for commercial purposes needs to get an FAA license under Part 107, which is the FAA's Small UAS Rule.) A hobbyist must notify an airport's ATL before within 5 miles of an airport, even if the airspace is not controlled. A Part 107 pilot need not. However, NO ONE can fly in controlled airspace without prior express authorization from Air Traffic Control. Controlled airspace is not necessarily equivalent to 5 miles. One must consult FAA Sectional charts. A new program is being deployed by the FAA to make it easier to get authorizations to fly in controlled airspace at low altitudes. This is called LAANC. This will permit drone operators to use an app to get authorization depending on the altitude one intends to fly. Attention to this sort of thing is a very big deal. Lives depend on it. One thing we have to be careful about in cities like ATL are helicopters. I am very careful over roadways which are monitored by traffic copters.

@@albertchapar3954 I don't even like to fly my drone over a freeway. Especially I75/85 Downtown. What if your drone decides to power off then it fall from the sky on the freeway. It hits s car then cause a massive accident and probably injuries and death.
