I think Don Glover was reminding us that as much as we love all the characters, it’s not real. A tv show is a dream out of his head. We live in their world for a while but it was never more than a dream. I’m a Twin Peaks groupie - one difference is that Glover dealt with more real issues in his fake world than Peaks ever did! Loved it and you guys too!

I love how the question asked at the end of inception "Is the top still spinning?" is equivalent to "Is Judge Judy thicc?" 😂😂
@FilmAgeStudios2 жыл бұрын
But what Atlanta does better than inception was a confirmation that this wasn't real... Now to what extent that's entirely up to you... Because in this episode they made it apparent that you can flip over in a deprivation tank...So there's the possibility that Darius could be face down in a deprivation tank and the entire series is his imagination building up his fantasy to ease him into death.

@@blackjesus4525 yes but the way I see it is that they brought it to our attention to let us know that that is a possibility...He could just wake up and be fine in the tank or he could be dead we don't know cuz we never see him wake up from the tank.

@@AlexLopez-hn5ru he's reliving his life as he's dying, that's why he says he has deja vu in the first episode...The only information that he has is from what is given to him by Van,Earn and Al and whatever is going on in his head...So he's reliving moments that he shared with the people that he cared about and all those peoples are interpretations of how Darius sees them...Simply put... The moments Darius is there are moments that really happened and when he's not there what we're seeing is what he thinks they would say... Plus let's not forget the rules of three he woke up face down once he says I thought you said I could never flip over, the guy says yeah that's never happened that's when Darius asks him how long was I asleep and he says 30 minoots... And then Darius wakes up again face down sits up and screams...

Darius died in the Tank.. it never shows when he got in the tank originally because he was dreaming at the pharmacy.. he never exited the tank by himself... The first time we see him let out of the tank was into the Tea room and he was still dreaming after being scared awake he tells the guy “ hey I thought you said you couldn’t roll over in these” and he is doesn’t even exit this time he just here’s the weird grammar errors and wakes up FACE DOWN again after which just like in the sixth sense you never see Darius exit the Chamber himself. I think Darius came to terms that given how many times he’s woken up if Judge Judy is still thick then Darius died in the chamber… if he died the facial expression he made seems bitter sweet like he’s definitely dead but at least the experience is familiar and I’m with my friends. And if Judge Judy wasn’t thick then he was finna go to Jail… the tone read death tho I was worried Darius was going to kill himself to prove he was dreaming. Even the first “beautiful spirit” that came to him in his dreams seemed like Darius’s Virgil trying to guide him she even introduced the idea of the chamber to the viewer.. we had no idea where Darius was going before she spoke and like I said before he was already in the chamber at this point. Darius either realized he was dead and what death was or that he was Wanted for stealing a pink Maserati… I’d love for Darius to be alibied and the show to come back but I think Donald was serious.. Darius embodied the surrealism of the show it was only right his death symbolize the end but not in a sad way with a character that they know we all love. Just like the show.

I felt like Darius running in to punch the restaurant owner represented the pressure for a black show to be satisfying to the black audience by spreading black messaging of us supporting each other more and Atlanta is a show that does that but also punches that concept in the face by taking left turns to just make things interesting and fun. Yet asking the question in the end of whether or not this is all a dream. Maybe a metaphor for how serious should we be taking our imagination although it is true that we have trauma. Also it seemed to be a statement about using drugs and psych mind trips to hide from or explore your trauma.

This episode was all about Darius' death/transition. If you've ever heard the saying that "each night we die as we sleep" then it would make sense to link the stages of dreaming to this episode (and perhaps the entire series) on death. Everything happening in the finale is taking place in the dep-chamber visions/dreaming, with the exception of the scene outside the closed chamber door with Darius screaming inside. We as viewers get to witness his death and realization that he has crossed over and is with his friends and family. The sirens are not about the car theft; it IS about a man died in the dep-chamber and the emergency vehicles are on the way to investigate. That gleam in Darius' eyes and slight smile in the final shot means he is happy about dying, he has been in emotional pain (grief) for years. R.I.P. Darius. R.I.P. Atlanta. 💕 I really enjoyed this series (made a lot more enjoyable by the NineNerdYards crew). I will watch the series again to see what will now make more sense based on my theory.

Dang, Cheryl you're in my mind with this one. My wife and I think the same thing. There are a lot of death references as well in this show. Blowfish, Darius' Art Kills t-shirt, a book on the shelf in the tea area that says the word die, Earn mentioning death while eating, Darius family who is obviously dead, etc. But a new theory I've just heard is that he is the last to die and Earn, Van, and Al died in a plane crash on their way to Europe. Not sure how much there is to that idea but I definitely believe someone died in this episode or this season.
@ME_B1312 жыл бұрын
I agree I think the whole episode was Darius lucid dying in the tank. Aware that it's in his mind but never leaving the tank. He's also the only character that doesn't grow or change or leave Atlanta. Everyone else has already left and he's dealing with that loss/loneliness.

There is a detail about this show, that when understood, makes the writing of this show even more elevated and complex. They have hinted at it staring with the Pilot, with many more Blue blood-like crumbs laid along the way. There is only one character in Atlanta, and his name is PaperBoy. I don’t mean only one ‘main’ character, but instead there is only one real person in the entourage in the Atlanta that we know. In addition to his deep weed habit, Paperboy struggles with psychosis, possibly schizophrenia. (S1e1). The other main characters (and a host of other side character are either facets of his own personality, or figments of his imagination providing social commentary. Characters that directly interact with his ‘personalities’ are indeed only imagined or in his dreams, which he does a lot. Characters often stand near or on the side with Al when he is thinking with their personality (ie, Lemon-Pepper-wet scene). PaperBoy is often sleeping or high as transitions happen. Test: If anyone directly interacts with a known PP, then they too are imaginative or the interaction is only with paperboy and that PP’s component is only in ‘his’ head.

Questions: Is Darius the only main character whose last name isn't revealed? Does London's (from the Southside) license plate have any meaning - "California DY26702"? What do you think? Thanks!

Cheryl, London calls Darius (Darius X) which probably means the Muslim like brother who owns the restaurant, who also seems to be part of the Nation of Islam may have some connection to Darius. Or if you think Al is going through this with multiple personalities is probably him as well. I don't know.

I always thought the episodes were reality sprinkled with the characters dreams. The series starts with Earn waking up from a dream (told about hands grabbing at ppls feet in a lake)... also He doesn't even know Darius until he meets him at Al's trying to be his manager. That comment about the restaurant being a symbol for the entirety of the show is off, I feel. 'cause they made sure to show how awful the restaurant was haha. I'd like to believe all of the events across the seasons were real and not part of Darius' imagination. To believe otherwise I feel is like a cop out or a cheap interpretation. Like, maybe this episode simply deals with the theme of beginnings and ends (using Darius as the vessel for such themes) while having the usual themes of Atlanta?
