I think one of the main points of the episode and about Al is revealed in the finale when DeMarcus is telling him that he's been programmed to think that "the only person you can trust is yourself." That's why Al isn't telling Earn that he's hurt and almost died. He doesn't want to appear vulnerable. You only see his vulnerability in the episodes where he is alone in the woods or in Amsterdam.

Great analysis! On top of all that deeper meaning, on a simpler note, I love how this episode highlights Alfred's desire to be more independent of Earn, specifically. Throughout the show we've witnessed countless moments when Earn was always there for him. To decline his calls and not mention anything about the incidents on Facetime, shows how Alfred has really grown to be able to get out of situations alone.

so no matter what, problems exist. if you have money and fame, if you are alone and at peace… there will be problems. even with achieving deep introspection or independence, you can’t escape problems. the biggest one is yourself, if you’re able to conquer yourself and prove that you don’t need anyone or anything, than you can handle any problem

i relate to the forced isolation you talked about here. finding out who i was on my own was foreign to me before the pandemic. and even after a year and a half inside, all i knew was that i was still depressed. it took me another year and a half, which is now, to realize that i'm strong on my own. your observation of Al really put it into perspective how isolation is needed in order to grow up and out of unhealthy relationships with the people around you/the world. amazing work bro 👏🏾

5:06 i think that the "kill them before they kill you" about the hogs was a metaphor for how they view black people in america. and that also ties in with the "we dont call the police" sign in his store. Clyde also says "they will not stop until they destroy everything you have", which i guess also refers back to The Big Payback episode where the white guy with the white background lost everything.

Interesting that this episode was supposed to be episode 8 but they switched the order. I wonder if that was FX or the show creators. On a separate note, in tarot and numerology 8s symbolizes progress and forward movement, or growth so it's fitting that Alfred's episodes are always 8s. He evolves best when he's isolated.
