KYUSS is one of the best stoner/desert rock bands ever
@JensenP129 жыл бұрын
sarmen mirzakhani They practically founded the whole stoner scene, so it's pretty safe to assume they're the best. Although we can argue that Black Sabbath (the Ozzy sabbath of course) and Blue Cheer were the real pioneers of stoner, Kyuss is definitely the one to come up with the "typecast" stoner sound.

***** I know how old they are. But stoner and desert are different, a band can be stoner without being from the desert and so on. Yawning Man and Kyuss are very different musically, however both stem from the desert. Kyuss created the blueprint for Stoner rock we continue to hear, however Yawning Man were the first Desert Rock band, and they don't create what I consider to be stoner rock.

Scott (renowned artist) put this shit on his cassette player and we listened through it's entirety and I was literally blown away. I found it used at a record shop on CD and I couldn't wear it out man. Check this shit out though. I stumbled upon Queens of the stone age and didn't know they were related until several years later🤣 Josh Homme was playing guitar is why probably.

Kyuss aren't so far away at times to Alice in Chains, Bleach era Nirvana, or Screaming Trees. Kyuss are as different to Nirvana as Nirvana are different to Alice in Chains, by that logic, if magazines didn't invent the term stoner and there was no "scene" now, they would neatly fit in to the grunge banner. It's all just great heavy rock music at the end of the day. Josh even played in Screaming Trees when he left Kyuss.
@TonyRedgrave15017 жыл бұрын
I don't think so! This song here could maybe go though as Grunge but not most of their songs. First of all the lyrical themes of most Grunge bands seem to be really melancholy which is a total contrast to Kyuss or other Stoner Rock bands which lyrics mostly focus on more optimistic topics. And second and more important part of all Kyuss and other Stoner Rock bands have a totally different style of songwriting and use of guitar effects. And you are wrong there was already a scene in California where Kyuss originated. The Doom Metal scene. Other bands like "Sleep" have been around at the same time and made the transition from Doom Metal to what is called Stoner Rock/Metal. Kyuss and Stoner Rock in general is like the small cousin of Doom Metal. They have more in common with Doom Metal than Grunge. There is more Black Sabbath or Saint Vitus in there than Nirvana or Alice in Chains. What makes it different from Doom Metal is that they focused more on Psychedelic Rock elements. They included Psychedelic sounds into their fuzzy Doom Metal riffs. That makes Stoner Rock basically a hybrid of Doom Metal and Psychedelic Rock.
@Psychedeloshippie5 жыл бұрын
And if magazines didn’t create the grunge banner they’d be just bands......
@stephenhargrave79224 жыл бұрын
@@TonyRedgrave1501 right. But bleach could also be said to have doom influence and Sabbath undertones with melvins dale crover contributing drum feel before settling on a drummer. Alocr in chains on the other hand is almost straight blues rock at times which fits more neatly into "grunge" than sludge or doom. Still neat pop arrangements with less explorationthan kyuss and other psychafelic stoner rock influence

No shoes, just thongs, I hate, slow songs. Oh yeah, you cry like I care. Oh yeah, buck naked and there! Hooray for, hooray for you (6x). Some people question the depth of utterances such as: "My hair is real long." My advice against that lack of depth is to go and listen to "Size Queen" by the same band to find some sought-after depth.
